Chapter 112 Pei Shaoqing's Doubts

"Don't worry, the surgery was a success." Dr. John's words seemed to sweep away the gloom and worry that had been weighing on An Yiruo's heart for the past few days.

"Thank you, thank you Dr. John," An Yiruo said, her voice trembling, but one could sense that she was overjoyed as well as excited.

“You’re welcome, it’s our duty. Your mother is still under anesthesia; she can be transferred back to her ward after the observation period,” Dr. John said before leaving.

Pei Shaoqing stepped forward and walked to John's side: "Thank you, John."

"We will live up to your expectations."

"I'll treat you to dinner later," Pei Shaoqing said, punching John on the shoulder. Their relationship was more like that of brothers.

"good."

After John left, An Yiruo turned around and looked at Mo Jingchen in front of the operating room door: "The surgery was successful, Chen. Dr. John said the surgery was successful."

"Yes, An'an. Your mother is blessed by the heavens.

"Yes, that must be it. In any case, this is the best news I've heard today."

After waiting a while longer, everyone saw a nurse pushing Mother An, who was lying on the bed, out of the room.

"Mom, how are you feeling?" An Yiruo stepped forward and walked to her mother's bedside. Looking at her mother's slightly pale face, she felt a pang of sadness.

"It's alright, don't worry," Mother An weakly reassured her daughter.

"Family members, please take the patient back to the ward to rest!" the nurse reminded them.

Mo Jingchen pulled An Yiruo back, and together with the nurse, they pushed the hospital bed back to the ward.

Back in the ward, a caregiver was already waiting inside. She was in charge of taking care of everything related to An's post-operative care.

"Chen, thank you." It has to be said that Mo Jingchen, her son-in-law, was even more considerate than she was his daughter.

"Of course."

Mo Jingchen really is someone who can give her a sense of security anytime, anywhere!

Inside the ward, Gu Wanting and Madam Mo came to An's mother's bedside. Seeing her pale face, their hearts ached, but thankfully, the surgery was successful. Now, it's just a matter of time before she recovers.

"My dear in-laws, the surgery was a success, don't worry. From now on, listen to the doctor and take good care of your health. Don't worry about the rest," Madam Mo said to An's mother.

"Yes, thank you, Grandma. I understand. You've all worked hard, waiting for me outside. Please sit down and rest." Although she was weak, Mother An did not forget etiquette and hospitality.

"Don't worry about us, we can take care of ourselves. Besides, An'an and Jingchen are here. You just focus on getting better." Gu Wanting's words showed that she genuinely cared about An's mother.

The three of them chatted for a few more minutes. Gu Wanting noticed that An's mother looked tired: "Mother-in-law, we'll be leaving now. We'll come to see you another day. You should get some sleep and rest."

"Hmm." Mother An was really too weak. She felt her eyelids were already drooping. After everyone left, Mother An quickly fell asleep.

Pei Shaoqing was there the whole time, but he had no presence at all!

"Shaoqing, thank you." Mo Jingchen walked to his side and patted him on the shoulder.

"You're too kind. Saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda. I'm also doing this to accumulate good karma for the Pei family, and I hope to find my aunt soon."

"Yes, we will. Have you continued to investigate the clues about my aunt that we discussed last time?" Mo Jingchen asked with concern.

"I came here to investigate this matter. Now that the surgery was successful, I have to go and take care of my own affairs," Pei Shaoqing said, bidding farewell to Mo Jingchen.

"Okay, if there's anything I can help you with, just let me know."

"Hmm." After leaving, Pei Shaoqing glanced back at the ward where An's mother was in the hospital corridor.

For some reason, he felt a sense of kinship and familiarity towards Mo Jingchen's mother-in-law, whom he had never met before. However, they were certain they had never met before.

I had originally intended to ask Mo Jingchen a few questions, but considering the current situation, it wasn't appropriate to ask too much. Anyway, I'd be staying in City A for a while, so I'd wait and see.

Pei Shaoqing left the hospital with questions in mind, while Mo Jingchen, worried about An Yiruo's health, told her to lie down on the bed next to him and rest for a while.

"Chen, you should rest for a while too," An Yiruo said, also worried about Mo Jingchen.

"I'm going to take care of some work over there, and then I'll lie down on the sofa for a while. You go to sleep first," Mo Jingchen said, tucking An Yiruo in and gently patting her to sleep.

After An Yiruo fell asleep, Mo Jingchen gave the caregiver a few more instructions before going to the sofa in the outer room to handle official business.

Although the company doesn't require him to come to the office every day, he still needs to sign off on some important documents.

After reading the stack of documents, Mo Jingchen took off his glasses, pinched the bridge of his nose to relieve the discomfort, and then got up to check on An Yiruo.

Seeing that An Yiruo's brows were still furrowed in her sleep, Mo Jingchen reached out and gently smoothed them. He felt a pang of heartache. He tucked her back in with the blanket and then returned to the sofa to close his eyes and pretend to sleep.

Half an hour later, An Yiru woke up and went to the bathroom. She saw Mo Jingchen resting with his eyes closed on the sofa. Worried that she would disturb him, she tiptoed to the bathroom.

"An'an, you're awake."

"I'm sorry I woke you up."

"It's okay, I wasn't asleep anyway. Where are you going? I'll go with you."

"I need to go to the restroom," An Yiruo said, pointing to the restroom door not far away.

"Then you go first."

An Yiruo nodded and walked towards the bathroom.

"You should go back to sleep tonight. I'll stay here." An Yiruo noticed that Mo Jingchen looked a little tired and worried that he was working hard, so she suggested that he go back to rest.

"But I'm worried about you being here alone."

"There's a caregiver here, so it's okay. Don't worry about me. It's you who's working and staying here with me, that's too hard for you."

"It's not hard work," Mo Jingchen said, letting An Yiru sit beside him and pulling her into his arms.

"Listen to me, go back to Xinghai Bay."

"Let's talk after dinner. I've had Assistant Zhou bring dinner over; it should be here soon."

As soon as Mo Jingchen finished speaking, there was a knock on the door, followed by a man carrying a bag of takeout food approaching Mo Jingchen.

This person was none other than Assistant Zhou: "President, dinner is here."

"Okay, put it here."

Assistant Zhou placed the bag on the coffee table in front of the sofa and turned to leave.

Mo Jingchen took out the takeout boxes from the bag one by one and opened them one by one: "An'an, it's time to eat. Even if you don't have an appetite, you should eat more so you have the strength to take care of Mom!"
