“That won’t do. The medical expenses for a top-notch team must be considerable. Although you and An’an are married, I can’t take advantage of you for this,” An’s mother said firmly.
“Now that I’m married to An’an, you are also my mother. There’s no need to be so clear about the distinction when it comes to treating your own mother.” Mo Jingchen looked at An’an’s mother’s firm attitude and tried to persuade her.
“Mom, why don’t you go and take a look first? Maybe the medical expenses aren’t as high as you think. Let’s focus on treatment first, and pay off the medical expenses slowly later,” An Yiruo tried to persuade her.
"Let's talk about this later," Mother An said thoughtfully.
She didn't want An An to be seen as a vampire by Mo Jingchen right after getting married.
An An and Mo Jingchen already had a huge economic gap. Although Mo Jingchen doted on An An, if she chose to undergo treatment, any future conflicts between them would be something Mo Jingchen would use to lecture her.
She didn't want her daughter to ever feel inferior in front of Mo Jingchen.
Although An's mother herself wanted to receive treatment as soon as possible, she would rather not receive treatment if An'an suffered any injustice!
"An'an, Jingchen, have you decided what you want to eat?" An'an's mother then changed the subject.
An Yiruo glanced at Mo Jingchen, who shook his head slightly, indicating that she shouldn't rush.
Therefore, An Yiruo had no choice but to give up trying to persuade her.
"What does An'an want to eat? Anything is fine with me," Mo Jingchen said, giving An Yiruo the choice.
An Yiru recalled that when her mother was still living in the An family, she loved Cantonese cuisine, so she suggested that they go eat Cantonese food today.
"I happen to know a Cantonese restaurant that serves really authentic food, let's go there."
Mo Jingchen drove, An Yiruo sat in the passenger seat, and An's mother sat in the back seat. The three of them set off to celebrate.
When they arrived at the restaurant, An Yiruo noticed that the restaurant's decor made it look like a long-established brand.
However, the location doesn't seem to be close to the commercial street or the street surface; it's hidden in a small alley.
"This restaurant has been open for many years, in this location since my ancestors' generation, and the taste remains the same as before. The restaurant can only accommodate a limited number of customers each day, and you have to make a reservation in advance to dine here. Some people who want to eat their food have to make a reservation six months in advance."
Mo Jingchen introduced An Yiruo as they walked.
"Mr. Mo, you've arrived. This way, please," the waiter said respectfully to Mo Jingchen, and then led them into a private room.
Judging from how familiar the staff were with Mo Jingchen, it must have been their first time dining here.
"Mr. Mo, how did you know I was coming to eat Cantonese food today? And you even made a reservation in advance?" An Yiruo whispered in Mo Jingchen's ear.
No appointment.
"Then why... didn't you just say that everyone who comes to dine needs to make a reservation?" An Yiruo asked, somewhat puzzled.
However, An Yiruo quickly guessed what was going on and said with a smile, "Mr. Mo must have used your status as the president?"
"Yes and no. The property rights of this store belong to the Mo family. I waived their rent, on the condition that I don't need to make an appointment in advance each time I come. Look, this is my private room."
Following the direction Mo Jingchen pointed, An Yiruo saw that there was a room at the end of the corridor with a different number from the other private rooms.
"Mr. Mo is indeed generous," An Yiruo gave Mo Jingchen a thumbs up.
"There was no other way; it's just too difficult to book a table at their place. That's why I came up with this solution."
"It's so good to be rich," An Yiruo couldn't help but sigh again.
"The supplementary card I gave Miss An yesterday is more than enough for her to squander, so Miss An doesn't need to be envious, because Miss An is also a wealthy person," Mo Jingchen whispered to An Yiruo.
After the three were seated, the waiter asked, "Mr. Mo, the usual?"
"No, bring the menu."
"Okay. Mr. Mo, please wait a moment."
After the clerk took the menu, Mo Jingchen handed it to An's mother: "Mom, take a look and see what you'd like to eat."
An's mother then handed the menu to An Yiruo: "An'an, choose."
An Yiruo took the menu, selected a few dishes that her mother liked, and then picked a few more according to Mo Jingchen's tastes. She closed the menu and handed it to the waiter.
"Okay, everyone, please wait a moment." The waiter took the menu and left the private room.
“Mom, I own several properties. In a few days, you can choose one you like and move there. The place you live now is too remote, and the house is old and unsafe,” Mo Jingchen said to his mother while waiting for the food.
"Jingchen, I know you mean well, but I'm really embarrassed to accept it. After all, I can't accept something for nothing."
“Mom, you’ve raised An’an so well, that’s the biggest credit you can give, and I should thank you. Besides, now that An’an and I are married, and you’re living there by yourself, the security isn’t good. If something happens to you, An’an will worry,” Mo Jingchen continued to persuade her.
An Yiruo hadn't expected Mo Jingchen to have such a plan today.
She had long wanted to change her mother's living environment. Before, when she lived at school, her mother lived in a remote area to save money.
She had planned to work and earn money so she could rent a small apartment in the city, but she never expected to meet Mo Jingchen.
The plan was temporarily shelved, but Mo Jingchen actually said such things today, and she felt a different kind of emotion towards him again.
“No need to trouble yourself. I’m used to living here now, and I get along well with my neighbors. I’m getting old and don’t want to move,” Mother An said with a smile.
“Mom is still young. Moving to a different place can improve her quality of life, and it will also allow her to be closer to An’an,” Mo Jingchen said.
Mother An shook her head, smiled and said, "I live alone, so it doesn't matter where I live. No need to trouble yourself."
An Yiruo didn't know why her mother refused Mo Jingchen's offer, but she understood that her mother must have her reasons. She would ask her mother properly when Mo Jingchen wasn't around...
"Mr. Mo, please be careful as the food is hot." The waiter knocked on the door of the private room and brought in the dishes.
Soon, the table was filled with all kinds of delicious food, and An Yiruo's mouth watered at the sight of the food.
"Mom, An'an, try this dish. It's their signature dish, and it tastes really good," Mo Jingchen said as he served the two of them some food.
"Hmm, it tastes really good," An Yiruo said after tasting it, and couldn't help but pick up another piece.
Mo Jingchen sat next to An Yiruo, taking care of her by serving her food and water without any airs of a wealthy heir. An's mother noticed all of this.
"Mom, Jingchen, you eat first. I'm going to the restroom." An Yiruo suddenly felt a tightness in her stomach, as if her period was about to start.
After checking in the restroom, I found that I was indeed having my period. After dealing with it and washing my hands, I was about to go back when someone suddenly called my name.
An Yiruo turned around upon hearing the sound and saw her half-sister, An Yufei.
"An Yiruo, it really is you."
