After getting off work, An Yiruo said to Xiao Zhang, "Let's go to my mom's house."
"Yes, young mistress."
An Yiruo sat in the car, gazing at the scenery outside and the tall buildings. She opened the window, and a gentle breeze caressed her face, making her feel very comfortable.
The afterglow of the setting sun spills across every corner of the city, as if draping it in a stunning coat.
An Yiruo had never thought this city was so beautiful before. She wondered if it was because of Mo Jingchen that she had a new understanding of this city.
"Young Madam, be careful not to catch a cold," Xiao Zhang reminded her as he looked through the rearview mirror at his wife leaning against the car window. After all, in City A at the end of September, the temperature fluctuated between cold and warm, making it easy to catch a cold.
"Okay, thanks for reminding me." An Yiruo hadn't originally planned to keep the car window open, but after Xiao Zhang's reminder, she pressed the window-closing button.
Because the car was heading towards the suburbs, there was no traffic congestion along the way, and we soon arrived at the apartment building where An's mother lived.
"Xiao Zhang, pick me up here again tomorrow morning."
"Yes, young mistress."
"But I'll need to trouble Xiao Zhang to take my mom and me to the nearby supermarket later."
"Yes, Madam, you're too kind."
As An Yiruo turned to go upstairs, Xiao Zhang parked his car in a public parking space next to him.
"Mom, I'm home," An Yiruo called out loudly as she unlocked the door.
"An'an's back!" Upon hearing the door open, An'an's mother immediately got up to greet her at the door, her face beaming with the joy of a mother seeing her daughter.
"Mom, let's go buy groceries first, and then we'll cook when we get back."
"An'an, you just got in the house, do you want to rest for a bit?" An'an's mother was worried that her daughter hadn't even had a sip of water after a long day at work and might be tired.
"No need, the driver is waiting downstairs. Let's go to the supermarket."
“Okay, if An’an gets hungry on the way, we’ll buy her something to eat first,” An’an’s mother said as she walked, being pulled along by An Yi Ruo.
"Mom, when did I become so delicate? It's okay to eat a little later."
Hearing An Yiruo say this, An's mother understood that An Yiruo didn't want her to worry. But in her heart, she felt a little sad. She had truly wronged her daughter all these years.
Other people's daughters are all pampered and spoiled, but her own daughter... has suffered so much with her all these years. Thinking of this, An's mother's eyes welled up with tears, and in order not to be noticed by An Yiruo, she turned away and secretly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"Young Madam," Xiao Zhang said respectfully as he saw her come downstairs.
"Go to the nearby supermarket."
"Yes, madam. Please get in the car."
An's mother and An Yiruo sat together in the back seat of the car. The place where Xiao Zhang parked was the same supermarket that Mo Jingchen had taken them to last time.
"Mom, we've arrived."
"Thank you for your trouble, Xiao Zhang," Mrs. An said to Xiao Zhang before getting out of the car.
"Madam, you're too kind. It's what I should do," Xiao Zhang said somewhat embarrassedly. This was simply his job. But the young mistress and her family didn't consider him inferior just because he was a driver. They treated him with ample respect.
This feeling made Xiao Zhang realize that he was not inferior to others, and he felt very comfortable.
An Yiruo and her mother entered the supermarket. An Yiruo grabbed a shopping cart from the side, while her mother took her arm. The two of them walked into the supermarket together.
To others, they didn't look like mother and daughter; they looked more like best friends.
The two first went to the fruit and vegetable section, where An Yiruo picked out some beef and pork, and some green vegetables.
"An'an, we can't possibly eat all this," An's mother said, looking at the large cart of things An Yiruo had picked out.
"It's okay, Mom. If you can't finish it, just put it in the refrigerator and keep it for Mom to eat at home."
"You silly child," An's mother realized why An Yiruo insisted on waiting for her to come home from get off work so they could come to the supermarket together—it was to buy food for her. An Yiruo knew in her heart that if her mother came alone, she definitely wouldn't be willing to buy anything.
"Hehe. Let's go check out the desserts," An Yiruo suggested to her mother, pushing the shopping cart.
"Okay, let's go."
Upon arriving at the dessert section, An Yiruo turned to her mother and asked, "Mom, which flavor of cake would you like?"
"I'm fine with anything, I'll buy whichever one An'an likes," An Yiruo had already guessed her mother's words.
Based on her understanding of her mother, An Yiruo took a slice of tiramisu cake. Then she took a box of mochi to keep for her mother when she was hungry.
The two bought some more milk, paid the bill, and left. After paying, An Yiruo saw a restaurant nearby; according to online reviews, the beef rolls there were delicious.
"Mom, the beef rolls here look pretty good, would you like to try some?"
“Okay, I’ll go buy it.” Just as An’s mother was about to step out, An Yi Ruo pulled her back: “I’ll go, Mom, you sit here and rest for a while.”
"Okay, An'an, go buy it," An'an's mother said with relief. She knew that An Yi Ruo didn't want her to spend money; she had done so just now when paying the bill, refusing to let her pay no matter what.
An Yiruo went to the restaurant and waited in line for a while. The beef rolls here are really popular. Even at this time, there are still so many people queuing up.
