Chapter 15: Indenture
At night, Song stood at the door of her room, suspicious and not daring to go in.
Xu Le came out of the toilet and saw Song standing alone at her door. Hesitantly, he asked curiously, "What are you doing?"
"Ah! Ghost!" Song was so frightened by Xu Le's sudden appearance from behind her that she broke down immediately!
Xu Le grabbed Song's hand and said loudly: "Wife, it's me, stop shouting! You're disturbing your parents' rest."
Song came back to her senses and threw herself into Xu Le's arms, crying: "Woo, woo, I was scared to death! I thought it was your grandma who showed up again."
Xu Le: "My grandma?"
Song: "Yes, my mother said today that when grandma was alive, she lived in the room we live in now."
Hearing this, Xu Le smiled and said, "Well, don't be afraid. When grandma was alive, I was the one she loved the most!"
Then he whispered in Song's ear: "Grandma, if you want to find someone, you should go find mom. In the past, the two of them were always fighting or quarreling. They were very noisy. If you want to be afraid, it should be mom who should be afraid."
Hearing this, Song muttered quietly, "No wonder mother was so scared today. It turns out she was afraid that grandma would come back and drag her down to have a fight!"
Xu Le: "Okay! You've lived in this room for 19 years since you got married, isn't it still in good condition?"
After hearing what Song said, she thought about it and went back to her room with courage, but she still felt a little nervous from time to time.
The next day.
Xu Zhiyi got up early and went to the village entrance to wait for the oxcart to go to town. Just as he arrived at the village entrance, the oxcart arrived! The villagers quickly went up to take their seats.
Xu Zhiyi found a seat a little further outside and sat down; she didn’t like being crowded inside.
Uncle Li, who was driving the ox cart, turned around and looked at everyone on the cart and shouted, "Everyone hold on tight!" Then he whipped the ox.
“Brother Li, wait a moment, there is someone else, Brother Li,” Shen Ercheng shouted as he ran towards the ox cart.
When Uncle Li heard Shen Ercheng's shout, he hurriedly pulled the ox rope, stopped the ox cart and waited.
Shen Ercheng ran a few steps, then looked back at the slow Shen Wuyou, and advised: "Wuyou, hurry up, the ox cart is waiting. Uncle knows that you are reluctant to leave Chang'an, but it's not that you can't go home? Isn't it one day a month to go home?"
Upon hearing this, Shen Wuyou took a deep look in the direction of home, and then followed Shen Ercheng’s footsteps.
Shen Ercheng jumped onto the ox cart, turned around and pulled Shen Wuyou.
Xu Zhiyi looked at Shen Wuyou who was sitting opposite him, only to see that his complexion had become even worse, and the swelling on his face seemed to be more obvious. Xu Zhiyi understood that he must be eating Guanyin soil to fill his stomach every day, and if he continued to eat like this, he would die.
And Shen Wuyou on the opposite side also felt that someone had been staring at him. He raised his head and looked at Xu Zhiyi on the opposite side. He felt that she looked familiar. After thinking for a while, he remembered the girl he met on the mountain that day.
Then he thought of his own embarrassment at that time, his face instantly turned red, he quickly looked away, lowered his head, and pinched his fingers nervously.
After driving for an hour, the ox cart finally arrived at Pingxiang Town.
As soon as the ox cart stopped, Shen Ercheng quickly took out six copper coins and handed them to Uncle Li, then hurriedly pulled Shen Wuyou to the market.
After Xu Zhiyi gave three cents for the ox cart ride, he followed behind and slowly strolled around the market. Due to the drought, the common people were having a hard time and had no spare money to go shopping, so the market was not very lively and looked rather deserted.
I visited several grain stores and asked about the prices of grain, and found that they were almost all more than twice as expensive as before the drought.
After walking around for a while, Xu Zhiyi saw a beggar begging. He gave him five copper coins and asked him some questions.
A quarter of an hour later, Xu Zhiyi came out of an alley with what she wanted, and happily strolled on the street again.
When I came across a noodle stall, I felt a little hungry, so I sat down and ordered a bowl of noodles.
At this moment, a voice sounded from behind.
"Uncle, I can't read, what does it say?"
"Shen Ercheng, what does your nephew mean? I just read it to him, and he still doesn't trust me?"
Shen Ercheng: "Third Master, don't be angry. It's my nephew who listens to me. It's definitely not targeting you."
"Wuyou, hurry up and give your fingerprints. I've checked it. It's just the normal registration process for entering the mansion!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Wuyou reached out to take the paper, but Shen Ercheng let go first, and the paper floated to the ground and landed right next to Xu Zhiyi's desk.
Seeing this, Shen Wuyou hurried over to pick it up.
Xu Zhiyi lowered her head and looked at the paper under the table. The words happened to be facing upwards. Xu Zhiyi was very surprised when she saw the three big words "sale contract" written on it. She had heard their conversation just now.
In this case, sir, doesn't he know that he is about to sign a contract to sell himself?
Xu Zhiyi looked at Shen Wuyou, and when he saw him pick up the indenture, he was about to bite his finger to make a handprint.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in my mind. I picked up the chopsticks on the table and pretended to accidentally drop them at his feet.
"Hey, sir, can you help pick up the chopsticks?"
Shen Wuyou was about to bite his finger, but was interrupted by Xu Zhiyi's shout. He looked down at the chopsticks closest to him, and hurriedly bent down to pick them up, walked to the table and handed them to Xu Zhiyi.
Xu Zhiyi glanced at Shen Ercheng and the other man. Seeing them glance over here, he lowered his head and ate noodles. He quickly approached Shen Wuyou and whispered, "Young Master, you must not press your fingerprints. It says a contract of sale."
After saying that, he took the chopsticks and thanked loudly: "Hey, thank you, sir!"
At this moment, Shen Wuyou's mind was blank, and he stood there blankly. Selling a body contract? Why is it a selling body contract? ? Isn't it just a normal registration for entering the mansion?
He looked at Shen Ercheng in disbelief, only to see him chatting with that man as if they were brothers. He was his nephew! Why did he lie to him?
Thinking of his so-called uncle, he just asked him to help read what was written. After he read it carefully, it turned out to be the same as what the man called Third Master said.
But his uncle had attended academy for several years, so there was no way he didn't know that this was a contract to sell one's body.
Shen Wuyou thought of his brother at home. How could a person who sold himself have freedom? I'm afraid it will be difficult to see his brother in the future!
Therefore, he absolutely cannot sign this indenture.
He glanced at the two men and seeing that they were not paying attention to him, he immediately ran away.
When the Third Master saw Shen Wuyou suddenly running away, he growled at Shen Ercheng, "Stop eating! Damn it, he ran away! Go chase him! I have reported it to Chen Yuanwai, and he is waiting in the mansion with an anxious heart. If you can't hand him over, think about the consequences..."
Xu Zhiyi, who was standing by, didn't dare to eat the noodles after hearing this! It was important to run away, so that she wouldn't be held accountable later.
Upon hearing this, Shen Ercheng hurriedly chased after him.
The third master frowned tightly. He was fine just now, why did he run away all of a sudden? Unless he knew that he was signing a contract to sell his body, but he just showed that he was completely illiterate.
Then he thought of something, and with a whoosh, he glanced gloomily at the table where Xu Zhiyi had just sat, only to see that the noodles on the table were barely touched.
Damn it, you’re ruining my financial future!
Bitch, you'd better pray that we never meet again, otherwise she will be in trouble.
Shen Wuyou looked back at Shen Ercheng who was about to catch up, and he was extremely anxious. He had only eaten three meals of grain in more than ten days, and the rest of the time he ate Guanyin soil to fill his stomach.
So I was so weak that I ran out of strength after just a short while!
