Chapter 24 Migrant Riot (1/2)

Chapter 24 Migrant Riot

Looking at the full moon in the sky, Lin Zhaozhao felt uneasy for some reason.

The little darling meowed and rubbed against Lin Zhaozhao's palm. Lin Zhaozhao rubbed its ears and then hooked the little guy's chin. "Little darling, I don't have a good feeling about Shou'an. If anything happens, you must help me protect my family."

Whether the little guy understood or not, he stepped on her knees and climbed onto her shoulder, his ear close to Xiao Guai's belly, and a soothing purring sound rang out. Lin Zhaozhao's restless heart slowly calmed down, and she filled everyone's bamboo tubes with spiritual spring water.

As dawn broke, the surrounding noise startled Lin Zhaozhao awake. Opening her eyes, she saw hordes of refugees abandoned in the direction of Shou'an City. A vast, dark mass stretched before her. Lin Zhaozhao frowned, her unease growing stronger.

"Run! There's porridge being distributed at the city gate. If you're late, it'll be gone."

Hunger drove the disaster victims forward relentlessly, completely ignoring the potential dangers. Lin Zhaozhao stopped her eager family members, saying, "There are too many people ahead, wait a bit. Haste makes waste."

"If you really twist your ankle and sit down on the ground, with so many people around, how many feet would you get stepped on?"

The thought of that scene sent chills down Li Yunhai's spine as he and his juniors shuddered. They would be trampled into mincemeat.

Outside Shou'an City, everyone waited with hope for the city gates to open and for the government to provide relief. Just thinking about it gave them hope. But from the first light of dawn until the sun grew stronger, the city gates of Shou'an City remained unmoved.

Just as their patience was about to run out, the city gates opened wide. But before they could even enter, a large group of refugees were forcibly pushed out by fully armed infantry. Their eyes darted around, bewildered.

Before they could figure out what was going on, someone rushed forward and shouted, "Why can't we enter the city? We want to enter the city!"

One group of people shouted and charged forward, followed by others, passively breaking through the infantry's constraints. But class distinctions cannot be overcome, and swords have no eyes; soon, the first batch of casualties appeared.

The strong smell of blood stirred the famine victims' bloodlust. Thinking of their various escapes from famine and the suggestive words they had heard, they impulsively rushed forward, only to be beaten and severely injured.

When hot blood splattered on their faces, hands, and bodies, the sense of crisis triggered by the threat to their lives caused them to flee back. However, there was only a small piece of land outside Shou'an City, and if there were too many people and things got chaotic, a stampede could easily occur.

Those in front move backward, those behind are pulled forward, and those in the middle become the biggest victims.

One after another, vibrant lives were lost before our very eyes. Human potential was unleashed; some fled, while others faced the danger head-on. In an instant, the area outside Shou'an City, which had just regained its human ideals, became a living hell.

Lin Zhaozhao possesses supernatural abilities, allowing her to see everything happening outside Shou'an City. She immediately organized her family to retreat, while simultaneously slipping silver coins exchanged from their account balances into the hands of the Lin family members.

Although a large number of refugees have poured into Shou'an, there is no shortage of water, and transactions can be made as long as there is money.

Even so, Lin Zhaozhao and her group were still affected.

With so many people moving around, Lin Zhaozhao watched helplessly as her family was pushed away, only able to hear familiar screams.

"Zhao Niang..."

"Zhao Niang..."

The crowd was so large that Lin Zhaozhao not only had to protect the baby in her womb, but also had to protect herself from being trampled and squeezed. In the chaos, her small bundle was snatched away.

Lin Zhaozhao didn't care about any of that anymore. She just ran as fast as she could to a less crowded place, turning east and hiding in a deserted, dilapidated house.
