Chapter 34 Sold to Nanyang as a laborer
As she murmured, tears suddenly streamed down her face. Li Xiujuan wanted to reach out and cover them, but the next second she covered her face.
The fear and anxiety of the past few days, along with the heart-wrenching words of Old Mrs. Zhang that day, caused her to dream every night of her four children covered in blood, crying out, "Mom, I'm in pain!" while she was powerless to help them. This sense of powerlessness and guilt tormented her constantly.
Now that her daughter has been found and has brought back her grandson, Li Xiujuan's anxious mood has finally calmed down a bit, and her pent-up emotions have erupted and been released in her relaxation.
Before giving birth, Lin Zhaozhao didn't really understand the bond between mother and child. But after giving birth safely, she developed a strong attachment to Li Xiujuan during their time together and feeding her child. She couldn't bear to part with her child in such a short time, let alone Li Xiujuan, who had raised four children, especially with two sons whose lives were uncertain and two daughters in imminent danger.
It's like being intermittently cut with a dull knife, a long and painful process that hides in every aspect of life. Once it stops, it comes back again, pushing people into the abyss.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Zhaozhao couldn't bring herself to say that Lin Zheng and Lin Dan were alright. Even battlefields in later generations could change drastically, let alone ancient battlefields where cold weapons were used.
After standing there for a long time, Lin Zhaozhao hugged Li Xiujuan from top to bottom.
After a brief silence, Ping An, who was being held on the bottom, protested, whimpering as if he were cursing. Li Xiujuan apologized to Ping An, crying and laughing at the same time.
For dinner, we had thin porridge provided by the nursing home. It was mostly water with very little porridge, and I didn't feel much after finishing a bowl.
After dinner, the family of six gathered in one room. Ping An was already asleep in his special little bed, with Meimei and Grapevine nestled next to him.
Knowing that the family hadn't eaten enough for dinner, Lin Zhaozhao took out steamed buns, dumplings, and fruit from her spatial storage.
After wolfing down their food, the room was filled with the strong aroma of meat buns. Old Mrs. Lin let out a satisfied burp with the smell of meat buns, her old face flushed, and she told her about her future plans: "Ping An is still young, and the weather is getting colder. It's not practical to keep sleeping on the floor. I'm thinking of finding a broker in the city to move out tomorrow."
“I have a total of fifty taels, all of which I have saved over the years. I didn’t spend much money while fleeing famine. After renting a house, I have some left over, and I might be able to do some small business.”
"If all else fails, I can do manual labor. I inquired and found out that it costs ten coins a day, with food and lodging included."
"With your physique, you'd better not go and join the fun." Li Xiujuan pulled Lin Fusheng, who looked sickly, and rolled her eyes. "I'm afraid you'll end up having to pay for medicine."
"I'm strong, I can do hard labor." Lin Yangyang volunteered, but was rejected by everyone. Laughter was unrestrained. Lin Zhaozhao picked up the little darling who was rolling around at her feet and relaxed her brows and eyes, her smile growing wider.
Things will get better and better.
The second branch of the Li family next door
After Li Yunyun's hair dried, she entered the room. Zhang Dandan, Li Minghuang, and Li Junsheng looked at her with serious expressions, as if they were conducting a joint trial.
"Tell me, what happened after you got separated from us in Shou'an?" Li Yunyun was trying to bluff her way out of it, but Zhang Dandan stopped her. "I saw you and Lin Zhaozhao exchanging glances outside the city. Tell me the truth."
Under immense pressure, Li Yunyun recounted how she was kidnapped and how Lin Yangyang was injured while saving her, omitting the fact that Lin Yangyang was shot with an arrow and helped Lin Zhaozhao cut open her abdomen. If she told everyone this, her mother, with her big mouth, would surely make it known to everyone. Only then did her aunt feel a little relieved, otherwise she might become ill from pent-up emotions.
