Lin Zhaozhao collected a lot of pottery jars and put them all out, almost filling half of the courtyard. Meimei, Xiaoteng, and Xiaoguai noticed the commotion and rushed over, their playful nature aroused, and they all took turns touching the pottery jars.
Xiao Guai and Xiao Teng are small, so they can step on the pottery jars like dragonflies skimming the water. Mei Mei is different. Whether it's intentional or not, as long as Xiao Li takes a fancy to a pottery jar, it will step on it and use its whole body weight to press it down, causing the pottery jar to shatter into pieces.
Once or twice was fine, just take it as an unintentional mistake. But when it happened three, four or five times, Lin Zhaozhao got angry. She and Xiao Li teamed up to beat Meimei until she was running all over the yard with her hooves. In the end, she only escaped by hiding behind Old Lady Lin.
After being beaten, Meimei dared not be presumptuous anymore. She shrank her little sheep tail and held her breath. Lin Zhaozhao would tremble if she glanced at her. She was really playing the victim.
Without Meimei causing trouble, Xiaoli selected her favorite ceramic pot, a wide-mouthed and deep basin filled with soil that Lin Zhaozhao had dug out from her space. Afraid of attracting attention, Xiaoli shrunk to a height of one meter.
This delighted the sheep, prompting Xiao Li to whip it with a stick while it leisurely ate cherries.
Lin Zhaozhao finally understood that Xiao Li was just a naive and innocent girl who was being completely fooled by that scheming sheep, yet she remained oblivious and complacent.
After settling Xiaoli in, Lin Zhaozhao went into the storeroom in the inner courtyard and took out the grains, dried vegetables, preserved meats, and pickled vegetables that she had stored in her space before fleeing the famine, as well as rice, flour, oil, dried meat, snacks, and drinks that she had stockpiled.
With the warehouse full, Lin Zhaozhao changed the locks and went to the outer courtyard with a great sense of accomplishment.
Grandma Lin and Lin Fusheng couldn't help in the kitchen, so because they couldn't stay idle, they started tending to the vegetable garden in the yard, loosening the soil and pulling weeds. They were thinking of getting the seeds, but then realized that tending the vegetable garden was just a spur-of-the-moment thing and they hadn't bought the seeds yet.
Seeing this, Lin Zhaozhao asked for the two people's opinions, then took out the seeds. The three of them worked together, one digging the soil, one sowing the seeds, and one covering the soil. Finally, Lin Yangyang watered the plants. In less than fifteen minutes, the vegetable garden was planted with vegetables.
After washing the mud off her hands, Lin Zhaozhao heard Li Xiujuan's shouts coming from the kitchen, along with the faint babbling of a baby. Only then did she realize what was happening and hurriedly went into the inner room to hold the baby.
Seeing the little boy lying on the bed with red eyes and a pouting mouth, tears streaming down his face whenever he saw her, Lin Zhaozhao felt sorry for him. She comforted him for a while, then found it funny, and her shoulders trembled with laughter.
"You're a mother now, and you're still so clumsy." Grandma Lin took Ping An from the baby, checked the diaper first, and when it was wet, she quickly changed it into a new one. Lin Fusheng then happily went to wash it.
Lin Zhaozhao happily went to make the milk, making sure the little one didn't see her laughing so heartily, lest he get angry and throw a tantrum, and she would have to coax him then. She couldn't refuse the little bean with his eyes full of golden beans and his lips pouting.
After a peaceful and satisfying meal, the dishes in the kitchen were ready.
The table was set up in the courtyard, and the stir-fried dishes were served one by one: garlic shrimp, boiled fish, stewed chicken, and stir-fried vegetables. All four dishes were plentiful, and a large pot of rice was steamed.
The aroma of rice and dishes blended perfectly, and the whole family swallowed hard. Amidst everyone's drooling gazes, Grandma Lin picked up her chopsticks and was the first to take a bite.
It was as if the speed had been increased; everyone buried their heads in their food, and the seemingly large portions of food visibly decreased. By the time Lin Zhaozhao finished eating and looked up, the meal was already nearing its end. Lin Yangyang shoveled all the leftovers into her bowl, scooped up the last spoonful of rice from the pot, and perfectly blended the soup and rice. She stuffed a full mouthful into her mouth, and Lin Zhaozhao felt a lump in her throat. If she remembered correctly, this seemed to be Lin Yangyang's fourth bowl of rice.
Lin Zhaozhao exclaimed, "Wow!"
So Lin Yangyang had been hiding her true abilities all along; this was her real appetite.
After finishing their meal and resting for a while, Lin Yangyang took charge of washing the dishes and boiling water, while Li Xiujuan led Lin Zhaozhao and Lin Fusheng to make the beds. While making the beds, Lin Zhaozhao took out the tables, chairs, benches, beds, clothes, quilts and other items that she had stuffed into her space before fleeing the famine.
