Chapter 40 Losing more than you gain is a bad thing.
"Young lady, what kind of fruit is this?" The wealthy merchant had come for the strawberry tree and got straight to the point.
"Strawberry." Lin Zhaozhao didn't waste any words and immediately handed over the strawberry. The sweet fragrance filled her nostrils the moment she brought it close. Taking a bite, she found it sweet and sour, with a wonderful and unfamiliar taste that was incomparable to other fruits.
The wealthy merchant initially didn't consider the bright red fruit a rare item, thinking he would only buy it for fifteen taels of silver as a novelty. However, after tasting it, he found it incredibly delicious, even more so than any fruit he had ever eaten in his travels. He thought that if he brought it back, it would probably cause a sensation.
The wealthy businessman immediately decided to buy the strawberry plant, and just as they were about to exchange money for goods, chaos erupted.
A group of people carrying wooden sticks walked towards Lin Zhaozhao, shouting, "Who gave you permission to set up a stall here? Did you pay the stall fee? What kind of things are you selling? Smash them, smash them all!"
Lin Zhaozhao looked around and, as expected, spotted the gloating big belly among the onlookers.
What a brilliant move to take the initiative! If it were an ordinary woman, she would probably be completely intimidated and allowed to be bullied. Unfortunately, neither Lin Zhaozhao nor Lin Yangyang are spineless.
The moment the wooden stick came down, the two sisters joined forces and beat the troublemakers to the ground. Lin Zhaozhao even used a long vine transformed from a grapevine to wrap up the big-bellied guy watching the commotion and threw him on the ground like trash.
Upon seeing the victim, the beaten thugs attacked him like mad dogs.
"It was him, he's the one who told us to smash it up, saying you were refugees from other places, and that even if we bullied you to death, no one would stand up for you."
"We're just doing things for money."
“Every wrong has its perpetrator, and every debt has its debtor. My dear, it was all his doing.”
"Go to hell! Is this how you people do things for money?"
"You still say they're just two easy-to-manage young women? These aren't women, they're clearly demons."
Lin Zhaozhao calmly watched the two fighting amongst themselves, exchanging punches and kicks. The big-bellied man with a greasy mouth was soon beaten black and blue.
Just then, a large group of people dressed as constables came running over and quickly parted the crowd, saying, "What are you all doing here?"
"You're all causing trouble. Do you believe I'll arrest you all and take you to the authorities?"
"Cousin, you're finally here! Look what they've done to me! It's all because of those two women." The pot-bellied man was crying and sniffling.
A strong gust of wind swept by, and Lin Yangyang instinctively stepped forward, only to be pulled away by Lin Zhaozhao. She faced off against the constable with her bare hands, exchanging blows for dozens of rounds before the constable retreated, his eyes filled with more apprehension as he looked at Lin Zhaozhao.
"To convict someone based on just one side's testimony is far too frivolous for the Huichun Yamen." Lin Zhaozhao put her hands behind her back, her expression growing cold.
"Enough with the nonsense, men, take all these troublemakers back to the yamen to await their fate." At the constable's command, a group of people waiting behind him swarmed forward, their furtive gestures suggesting they were there to stand up for the big-bellied man.
Lin Zhaozhao frowned, her mind racing as she pondered the possible consequences, when a gentle, smiling voice came from behind her.
"Today was definitely worth it. We got to see several great shows, each one more exciting than the last." The tense atmosphere was broken, and Lin Zhaozhao looked in the direction of the voice. Five young men walked in gracefully, their folding fans fluttering slightly behind their backs.
"Young Master Xu." The constable clasped his hands in a respectful bow, concealing the unusual emotions in his eyes.
"Tell Constable Chen where you came from." The young man, who called himself Young Master Xu, smiled, his eyes seemingly gentle and refined, yet concealing a sharp edge.
The servant behind him understood and recounted the whole story. Chen Song's face darkened, and he kicked the big-bellied man in the stomach. The sound of a pig being slaughtered echoed, and soon the other constables covered his mouth and dragged him away.
