"Young Master." Chun Chao brought over tea. Xu Zhixing rubbed his temples and glanced at the fig bonsai. He felt a sense of relaxation and even had the urge to try it, despite not eating after noon.
"Spring tide, let's pick a few figs."
"Yes, young master." Chun Chao cut off six figs, washed and prepared them, put them on a plate, and presented them to Xu Zhixing.
The figs were peeled and arranged neatly. They had no obvious fragrance, but one bite revealed a sweet taste. The restlessness in his heart gradually subsided, and his mind became clear. Before he knew it, Xu Zhixing had eaten half a plate.
Ningfu
After returning from the Xu residence, Ning Wanqiu threw a huge tantrum, which Madam Ning had to coax for a long time before she calmed down a bit after Lord Ning returned home.
Thinking of Xu Zhixing's amiable manner towards the merchant girl, Ning Wanqiu's expression grew even colder. She sent someone to summon the steward, and upon hearing that the woman was a refugee who had temporarily stayed in Huichun, and that she was also a widow, Ning Wanqiu felt relieved.
Given Xu Zhixing's status, even if there were any romantic developments between the two, the Xu family would not accept a widow with a child as a burden into the family.
Having figured this out, Ning Wanqiu's mood visibly improved. "Why hasn't the matchmaker brought any new brides lately?"
"Huichun City only allows those with household registration documents to enter. Those without household registration can only enter the city by selling themselves into slavery. The matchmaker is probably busy these days. Once the servants are trained, they will come to your door. They are still young and do not know etiquette, so we will not offend you, Miss."
"That's more like it." Ning Wanqiu smiled and paused, then walked straight toward the kneeling maid.
A shadow fell over the maid, who trembled as her chin was pinched by cold fingertips. Her heart nearly jumped into her throat, and she saw Ning Wanqiu smiling even more broadly.
"Your profile is exactly like that vixen's, I don't like it." Ning Wanqiu tightened her grip, her nails digging into the maid's flesh, and the maid couldn't help but let out a low scream.
"You lowly servant, how dare you soil my hands!" Ning Wanqiu angrily rebuked, slapping the maid hard across the face. Still not satisfied, she took out a hairpin and slashed the maid's face until it was mangled.
The onlookers inside the room were used to it. After Ning Wanqiu finished venting, they divided the work: some dragged people away, some carried water, and some washed their hands. They did it smoothly and in one go.
It took Lin Zhaozhao and her family two hours to build the strawberry garden, where they planted twenty strawberry trees.
Even though Grandma Lin, Lin Fusheng, Li Xiujuan, and Lin Yangyang had seen Lin Zhaozhao produce things out of thin air many times, they were still amazed to see the empty garden gradually filled with strawberry trees.
When planting strawberry trees, because there wasn't enough soil dug outside the city, Lin Zhaozhao used soil from her spatial storage for the fifteen strawberry trees behind her.
Seeing this, Xiao Li quickly kicked away the pottery jar and crawled into the hole that Lin Zhaozhao had dug for the strawberry tree.
The grapevines followed suit and took root. Lin Zhaozhao let them roam freely, managed the strawberry garden, and even fed them supernatural abilities and bathed them in spiritual spring water.
After finishing her chores, Lin Zhaozhao finally got to hold the little Ping An cub. She gave him a few kisses, but the cub stomped on her face with its hands and feet, much to Lin Zhaozhao's delight. She even gave him a few more kisses.
Oh my, the little rascal smells so good, I want to bite him.
