Chapter 137 One Hundred and Thirty-Seven Slashes

Swallows fly in pairs and dance around the eaves, and flowers bloom in pairs, filling the air with fragrance.

Xu Jiang hummed a little tune and placed the newly blossomed lotus flowers on the table. She also provided paper and a pile of pens, and enjoyed them leisurely.

Seeing her brisk steps and a hint of joy in her eyes and eyebrows, Liang Mo asked, "Master, are you so happy today? Did you encounter any happy event?"

Xu Jiang didn't hear it, and picked up the duster to dust the desk and bookshelf until they were spotless.

Isn't this his job?

Seeing her dusting the bookshelf and reaching for the broom, Liang Mo quickly shouted, "Boss, aren't you going to buy paper today? You also have to go to the county government office to submit your new books. If you don't go now, you'll be late."

This time the call was answered.

"Oh no, I got carried away, I almost made a mistake. I'll go right away!"

Xu Jiang quickly packed up her things and hurriedly led her donkey to the West Market.

Liang Mo waved and sighed.

Not long after Xu Jiang left, two servants suddenly came, bringing a basket of fresh fruits, a basket of seasonal vegetables, a bucket of live fish, two mallards, two reed chickens, and a cage of quails, a whole cart full of food.

The servant stopped the car, said hello to Liang Mo who was sweeping the floor, and then moved the things to the backyard as if he knew the way.

Liang Mo was dumbfounded. While helping to unload, he asked, "Who sent all this?"

A servant laughed and said, "Who else could it be? Of course it's my master."

"Master?" Liang Mo found one of the servants familiar. "Is he Mr. Lou?"

"That's right." The two servants put the things away neatly and left in a hurry.

After a while, another carriage came.

Several women got off the carriage. One of the older women looked around the bookshop and said to the others, "This is it."

Then a few people carried a few exquisite small wooden boxes down from the carriage and walked towards the bookstore.

Liang Mo greeted, "What can I do for you?"

The older woman stepped forward and asked, "Young man, may I ask if Madam Xu is here?"

Liang Mo politely returned the greeting and said, "The hostess is out. I wonder what you want to see her for?"

A round-faced maid with twin buns said disappointedly, "What a bad time to come. Sister Xu isn't here."

Liang Mo heard her call him affectionately, so he asked, "Where are the ladies serving in the mansion?"

The older woman replied, "We are the maids of the Lou family. We are here today to deliver some things to Madam Xu on behalf of our wife."

The Lou family again?

Liang Mo leaned over and said, "Please put the food in the shop first and wait for the owner to come back and take care of it."

Liu Mei nodded at him, then led a few little girls to move the things into the shop.

"Just put it here." Liang Mo led them to a desk.

After putting their things down, they couldn't help but look at the layout of the bookstore curiously.

Although small, it is neat and elegant.

Yin Yin couldn't help but say, "There are so many books."

Seeing the lotus flowers in the shop, Liu Mei couldn't help but smile. Then she said to Liang Mo, "Please tell Madam Xu that this is a small gift from the Madam. I hope she won't refuse it."

Liang Mo nodded, "Don't worry, my lady, I will definitely convey it."

Liu Mei thanked them and then called a few girls, "Let's go back."

Xu Jiang was not here, and Liang Mo was the only one here, so it was not appropriate for them to stay for long.

Yin Yin touched the books on the shelf reluctantly.

Seeing this, Liang Mo said to her, "We have some books in our store that can be borrowed. If you want to read them, you can borrow a couple to take home."

"Really?" Yin Yin was happy at first, then turned to look at Liu Mei with pleading eyes.

Liu Mei glared at her, but still agreed, "Fortunately, this is Madam Xu's bookstore. You are not allowed to be so presumptuous in other places."

Yinyin and a few little girls cheered a few times and asked Liang Mo to help them choose books.

Seeing that they were illiterate, Liang Mo selected a few folk picture books for them. They had pictures and words on them, which were simple and interesting to read.

Yinyin fell in love with it as soon as she opened it and held it carefully in her hands.

Liang Mo gave them a book loan agreement, which required a signature.

Yin Yin took the pen before Liu Mei. Her hands were shaking a little at first, but the pen tip was steady when it touched the paper.

"My name is Yin Yin." She smiled and returned the pen to Liang Mo, then said happily to Liu Mei, "Sister Liu Mei, I know how to sign the contract!"

This was the first time she signed her name.

Liu Mei touched her head and smiled, "I see. After signing the contract, you are responsible for the book. It must not be damaged or lost, and it must be returned on time. Do you understand?"

Yin Yin carefully held the book in her arms and nodded heavily, "Got it!"

After sending the few people away, Liang Mo returned to the kitchen and stared at the things piled on the table. He then thought of the pile of things in the backyard and thought to himself: Am I going to mess with the Lou family today?

Xu Jiang knew nothing about what was happening in the shop. After buying paper and ink in the West Market, she headed towards the government office.

As soon as he arrived at the government office, he ran into an acquaintance in front of the door - Manager Wu from Jisheng Bookstore.

When Manager Wu saw her, he snorted coldly and said in a sarcastic tone, "Manager Xu has been enjoying great success lately."

"No problem." Xu Jiang looked him up and down. "Boss Wu is quite simple and unpretentious. I wonder where he is now?"

"What's it to you?"

"Just asking casually, you can say it if you want."

Xu Jiang walked around him and went to the yamen.

The Wu clerk, feeling that she looked down upon him, followed her and said unwillingly, "Don't be so arrogant. You'll have to beg your parents for mercy in the future."

"Oh." Hearing something else in his words, Xu Jiang didn't press the issue. People like Wu Zhangshi become complacent when you question them, but tend to stop you from speaking if you don't ask.

As expected, Wu, the head of the household, thought she didn't believe him, so he chased after her and said, "Don't disbelieve me. Do you really think that just because Ji Sheng has fallen, you can do whatever you want?"
