Chapter 144 One Hundred and Forty-Four

Yin Yin wanted to help, but was pulled to the backyard by Liu Mei.

Xu Jiang was taking medicine and couldn't drink tea, so she poured herself a glass of plain water. The two sat opposite each other and chatted casually.

Seeing that Mrs. Lou's eyes occasionally swept across the bookshelf behind her, Xu Jiang stood up and picked out a few books for her to read.

"These are all newly published in bookstores recently... Ouch! My memory is so bad!" Xu Jiang slapped his forehead, making himself grimace.

Seeing Madam Lou looking at her worriedly, she quickly waved her hands and said, "I'm fine. It's just that because of this injury and illness, I delayed something."

Mrs. Lou warned: "Your health is important."

Xu Jiang was afraid that she would worry, so she nodded and said, "Don't worry, I will pay attention." Then she asked her to sit down and went outside to ask Liang Mo.

"Is there anyone coming from the Imperial College today?"

"No, but Brother Zeng came here. He said Master Lin told you to rest and recuperate, and then go to the Imperial College for proofreading when you are fully recovered. He also sent some things over, which I put away on the shelf inside."

"Okay." Xu Jiang sighed. As expected, he couldn't hide it.

Come to think of it, there were students from the Imperial College present, how could they have kept it a secret?

"Shopkeeper Wang came to ask about your condition several times, and Aunt Wang also came to check on you. She brought some food over, but when she saw you weren't awake, she gave it to Yinyin and put it in the kitchen."

"Okay, I see." Xu Jiang glanced towards the shopkeeper Wang and saw only the helper but no one else. She thought he had gone out for something, and she could only wait for him to come back and thank him properly.

After finding out the truth, Xu Jiang returned to the village and spent half a day with Madam Lou. They finally had dinner together before seeing Madam Lou off.

Before leaving, Xu Jiang asked Liu Mei and Madam Lou to go back together, leaving only Yin Yin behind.

Firstly, the bookstore is small and there is not enough space for many people to rest. In addition, there is also Liang Mo, which is really inconvenient.

Secondly, Liu Mei was the housekeeper in the inner courtyard, and her manners were strict. In her unorganized bookshop, everyone was a little reserved. And although she didn't say it, it was obvious that she was always thinking about Madam Lou, so she couldn't force her to stay.

Liu Mei pulled Yin Yin aside and gave her careful instructions. Madam Lou also repeatedly reminded Xu Jiang to take good care of herself and not to work too hard.

Xu Jiang was extremely grateful and listened to her words one by one and kept them in mind.

After seeing the two off, Xu Jiang and Yin Yin both breathed a sigh of relief.

"Come inside, it's time for us to close."

"Okay!" Yin Yin had always longed for it since she first met Xu Jiang and heard her talk about business. Today she could finally experience it, and she was naturally excited.

The two men closed the door, then checked the bolt of the backyard door, swept the shed, gave the stubborn donkey water, and fed it, then released the geese, rinsed the cages, and fed them.

"Sister Xu, there are goose eggs!"

"Pick it up quickly, or Yue Nu will see it and smash it to pieces again."

"Moon Slave?"

"The yellow cat."

"So it's called Yue Nu."

Xu Jiang thought to herself that there was someone named Yue Nu who hadn't come back yet.

"Pick up the goose eggs, wash them, dry them, and put them in the bamboo basket in the kitchen."

"Okay!" Yin Yin held a few goose eggs and went to scoop water excitedly.

Xu Jiang fetched water to rinse the goose cage, and then swept the yard with Yin Yin before they finished their work.

Both of them were sweating, so they boiled water to make a medicinal bath, took a bath separately, and then squeezed into bed together to sleep warmly.

After all, Xu Jiang had lost all his energy, so he fell asleep as soon as he touched the pillow.

Yin Yin couldn't sleep. She touched Xu Jiang's forehead to check if she had a fever, then got up to check the yard, and finally took out a picture album she hadn't finished reading and sat in front of the bed to read it.

Xu Jiang was awakened by the pressure. She opened her eyes and saw Yin Yin lying on the quilt, sleeping soundly with a book in her hands. She couldn't help laughing.

Then he stood up carefully, put Yinyin straight, and then quietly went to wash, boil medicine, and cook porridge.

After the smell of medicine dissipated, Yinyin hurried out of the house and helped her light the fire.

Xu Jiang saw that she was so naive that she couldn't help but pinch her round face.

Outside the city, the orphanage.

Xu Si and Xu Wu were isolated and placed under house arrest, forced to eat vegetarian food and listen to monks chanting sutras, but they could no longer sit still after just two days.

The three men hurried to find Xu Jiang and negotiated with the monk in charge to let them go.

The monk was ordered to look after the three people, but he said that he could not make the decision and needed the approval of the abbot.

Moreover, they had to wait for a doctor to come and examine the three people to confirm that they were not infected with the plague, and then send them to the government office for registration and placement.

"Whether you're going to stay with relatives or look for someone, since you're in this poorhouse, you have to follow the rules."

Seeing that the monk refused to budge, Xu Si lost his patience and pushed the monk, ready to rush out, cursing, "You bastard! Your grandfather can go wherever I want, it's not your turn to decide!"

The monk tried to stop him again, but was knocked down by him with one punch.

The monk covered his face with his hands in shock and anger, "In a Buddhist place, how dare you hit someone?"

"I'll beat you if you keep talking!" Xu Si waved at Xu Wu, "Let's go!" Then he kicked Xu Twelve, "You're still standing there! Get out of here!"

Xu Twelve actually didn't want to leave. He had food and drink in the temple and didn't have to work. Why should he leave?

He was reluctant and left slowly, so that as soon as the three of them left the house, they were chased by the monks and shouted into the courtyard: "There are evildoers hurting people, please ask the guardian monk!"

This shout attracted all the monks and refugees in the temple. Several monks surrounded the three men aggressively with wooden sticks in their hands. When the three men saw this scene, their legs trembled.

The monks roared in unison, and Xu Twelve knelt down swiftly.

"Master, spare me! Don't hit me, don't hit me!"

"You bastards!" Xu Si was furious, and then he said to the monks, "Why are you locking us up?"
