Feng Miao didn't understand why he asked such a question that had nothing to do with him, so he didn't answer.
"It's time to go back and take a look." Zhao Xiu approached him and smiled at him, "I'll take you there."
Feng Miao suddenly felt a sense of crisis in his heart. He was about to step back, but Zhao Xiu grabbed his collar. Then his neck felt cold and hot, sticky blood spurted out.
He pushed Zhao Xiu away violently and covered his neck, but he couldn't stop the blood from flowing.
Zhao Xiu held a thin and small knife in his hand, and the knife was covered with blood.
"This boning knife was given to me by Minister Zhou. I used it to carve venison for the successful scholars. I'll use it to serve you today."
He took out a handkerchief, wiped the blood off the knife, threw it at Feng Miao, and walked past him to the servants' room.
Feng Miao chased him for a few steps before collapsing on the cobblestones with a thud. Blood gushed from his neck, staining a large area of his shirt red. He clutched his neck, like a venomous snake being strangled. He struggled for a long time before collapsing to the ground, eyes wide open in anger, and he was silent.
Not long after, the night patrol guard had to pee urgently, so he went into the bushes beside the path to urinate. When he came out from the other side, he slipped and fell to the ground, with his hands covered in stains.
He cursed his bad luck a few times, but felt something was wrong. He then put his hands close to smell. Why was there such a strong smell of blood?
When he got up and looked, he found a man lying a few steps away. The guards hurried forward to check, but found that the man was dead. When they turned his face to identify him, they saw that it was the poor scholar who worked for Zhou Huai.
How could he die here?
Zhao Xiu was sleeping soundly when the door was suddenly kicked open. Two guards came in and dragged him out of bed without saying a word.
He asked sleepily, "What's the matter?"
A guard said coldly, "The prince has summoned you."
Another guard said, "He's so brave to kill someone and still sleep so soundly."
Zhao Xiu pushed the two of them aside, straightened his clothes, put on his shoes, and said calmly, "Let's go."
When I returned to Madam Zi's yard, no one stopped me this time.
Prince Ying sat in the main hall with his hair loose and his chest open, looking gloomily at Zhao Xiu who was forced to kneel on the ground.
"Who gave you the courage to kill someone in my house?"
"Of course it was the prince who gave me the courage."
Zhou Huai on the side shouted angrily: "How dare you! How dare you be so presumptuous in front of the prince!"
Zhao Xiu didn't even glance at him.
Prince Ying frowned, "What do you mean?"
Zhao Xiu bowed and said, "Your Highness, please ask your attendants to leave. Zhao Xiu has something important to tell you."
Zhou Huai objected, "No, since he is capable of killing people, there's no guarantee he has bad intentions towards you, Your Highness..."
Zhao Xiu interrupted, "Your Highness, if this matter is delayed any further, your great undertaking will be thwarted."
What great cause was he planning? Prince Ying thought for a while, then ordered his men to search Zhao Xiu. Seeing that he was not carrying any weapons, he said to everyone, "Everyone, get out."
Zhou Huai reluctantly retreated, but he didn't go far. Instead, he stayed in the garden to wait for the outcome. Finally getting the chance, he was determined to crush Zhao Xiu to death to vent his hatred.
Only Prince Ying and Zhao Xiu were left in the room.
"You've heard quite a bit," Prince Ying said with a hint of murderous intent. "Tell me, what is it that threatens my cause? If you can't explain it, I'll make you pay for your life to Feng Miao."
"Lou Yunchun went to Liangzhou on the imperial decree." A ray of sunlight filtered in from the doorway, landing beside Zhao Xiu. "He should have left the capital last night."
"What?" Prince Ying stood up suddenly. "Liangzhou?" Then he asked suspiciously, "How did you know that?"
Zhao Xiu and Prince Ying exchanged glances. "From Feng Miao, we learned that he was Lou Yunchun's spy planted beside you."
