As the sound of porcelain falling to the ground and blooming rustled, Prince Ying roared in his ears: "You have a good dog!"
Bookstore.
The good dog Uncle Chai played with Yue Nu until late at night, and finally pinned it down and licked it until it was covered with saliva.
Yue Nu crawled into the stubborn donkey's grass nest, and Uncle Jackal chased after him with his tongue hanging out, and was almost kicked away by the stubborn donkey's hoof.
It circled the donkey shed several times but didn't dare to get any closer. Finally, it had to lie back in its own kennel and wait for Yue Nu to come out before playing with it.
As it waited, it narrowed its eyes.
As the night deepened, a figure scurried up the cypress tree outside the back wall, then used the trunk to tiptoe up the wall.
Xu Si waited in Huailiu Lane until midnight. After making sure that no one had returned, he went around the back wall and tried to sneak into the bookstore to steal some money.
It would be even better if he could find the title deed of this bookstore. Then he could sell it and go to the gambling house in the capital to show off his prowess. Maybe the gambling house in the capital would bring him good luck.
If he could make a fortune, then returning to Yongsui would be a glorious journey. He could then redeem his wife and daughter, and his family would be able to enjoy wealth and prosperity again.
He squatted on the wall, thinking about beautiful things, and couldn't help laughing out loud.
These sounds woke up the jackal, and it immediately jumped up and looked around vigilantly.
When it saw a thief slipping down from the wall, it kicked its four claws and screamed twice, then suddenly rushed up the wall and bit the thief's butt accurately.
When Xu Si heard the dog barking, he shuddered and was about to stop and climb up the wall, but he felt a sharp pain in his buttocks. Then he was pulled into the yard by a huge force and fell dizzy.
Before he could get up, he heard a threatening "woofing" sound in his ears, and then a figure pounced on him and bit his arm.
Xu Si suddenly let out a heart-wrenching scream.
The neighbors were startled awake and came out with lanterns. Shopkeeper Wang also lit a lantern and followed the noise. When he heard the noise coming from Xu Jiang's courtyard, he immediately turned back and got a door bolt for self-defense.
Just as I arrived at Xu Jiang's gate, I saw a figure climbing over the wall and then limping away.
He yelled, "Catch the thief!" and chased after him.
Xu Si was already familiar with the terrain of Huailiu Lane. When he saw someone chasing him, he first hid in a pile of firewood. After the person left, he found the narrow alley between the houses and ran away quickly in the opposite direction.
Shopkeeper Wang realized something was wrong and went to look for it, but was caught by the neighbors who came out after seeing the commotion.
"Where is the thief?"
"Did you run away from the bookstore?"
The collision caused him to lose track of the person he was chasing.
Shopkeeper Wang was stopped and stamped his feet anxiously, "Oh, he's already escaped! Let's chase him!"
Everyone chased to the alley entrance, but in the pitch-black street, how could they still see the thief's shadow?
"It's pitch dark, where can I find him?"
"Let's go find the patrol and have them search. Maybe we can still find it."
"Two people will do, and the rest of you can sweep the alleys to see if the thief has any accomplices."
After discussing it, they quickly split into two groups. They took the two men to report to the patrol, and the rest formed teams to check the front and back alleys of each house. But until dawn, there was no trace of the thief, and he really got away.
Xu Si hid in the stable of an inn, and only emerged half-walking and half-crawled after the patrol guards had dispersed at dawn.
He held on to a pillar to steady himself, but felt pain and swelling in the wound. He reached out to touch it and found that it was swollen very badly.
This mad dog might be carrying canine poison!
He endured the pain and squeezed the wound to release the pus and blood. Then he saw a half-bucket of water beside him, so he limped over to clean the wound.
After cleaning, he trembled as he groped his way to the street. Seeing that the guards at the gate had withdrawn, he slowly walked towards Taikangfang.
It would take an average person more than half an hour to walk from Yonghefang to Taikangfang, let alone his injured leg. The more he walked, the more dizzy he became, and the heavier his steps became. By the time he reached Wanjuan Tower, the gatekeeper had become two separate figures.
Before the servant could drive him away, he fell headfirst in front of the gate of Wanjuan Tower.
After seeing Lou Yunchun off, Xu Jiang tossed and turned and couldn't sleep, so she simply got up early, paid her respects to Madam Lou, packed up, and went back to the bookstore.
Mrs. Lou also did not sleep the whole night. She sent Xu Jiang out, arranged for a carriage to pick her up in the morning and evening, and ordered the guards and Yin Yin to follow her closely to protect her.
Xu Jiang was naturally deeply moved and waved goodbye to her. Before leaving, he saw her standing behind the door with a lonely look on her face, so he decided to come back early to have dinner with her.
The carriage drove into the street, and the whole city was bustling, but Xu Jiang felt empty.
But there's only one person missing.
Whenever she met a patrol guard, she couldn't help but take a few more glances at him, wondering in her mind where Lou Yunchun was going.
When she came to her senses, she had already arrived at the bookstore. When she got off the car, she saw Liang Mo and Manager Wang standing in front of the door talking.
She greeted the two with a smile, "What are you talking about so early in the morning?"
When Shopkeeper Wang saw her, he hurried over and said, "Sister, something happened! A thief broke into your yard last night!"
Xu Jiang was stunned. "Thief?" Then he asked hurriedly, "Have you caught him?"
Shopkeeper Wang shook his head, his face full of regret, "He got away."
Yin Yin patted her chest and said, "Luckily Sister Xu returned to the mansion. If she had run into this thief, what would have happened?"
Guard Xue asked, "Have you reported it to the authorities?"
Shopkeeper Wang tilted his chin towards Xu Jiang and said, "I've been waiting for this victim."
Liang Mo suddenly said, "I know who this thief is."
Everyone looked at him at the same time and asked in unison: "Who?"
Liang Mo told everyone about his encounter with a suspicious person that day, and concluded, "I guess he later returned to the bookstore, and when he saw that no one was around, he decided to sneak in to investigate, but he didn't expect to be caught red-handed by Uncle Jackal."
