Chapter 178 One Hundred and Seventy-Eight

Ordinary accounts wouldn't be afraid of being audited, but how could his extortion withstand scrutiny? He gave an unpleasant smile, "No private money? I don't need two hundred taels. I'll take a loss. One hundred taels will do."

"No." Lou Yunchun sighed, "My wife is very strict at home and doesn't allow me to take any private money with me when I go out."

The captain and the patrol guards nearby all looked at Lou Yunchun with sympathy.

The shopkeeper almost cried out loudly. He held Lou Yunchun's hand and said, "If you don't have a hundred taels, fifty taels will do." Then he looked at the patrol guards and said, "One person can chip in a little, that's enough."

The patrol guards held their purses tightly.

The captain was sensible and said, "I just found some silver on those thieves. It should be twenty taels. If you don't mind it, I'll give it to you as compensation."

He complained, of course he would complain. Just twenty taels is not enough for him!

Seeing his face full of refusal, the captain said, "If the shopkeeper doesn't want it, then you can only collect the official silver or come to the general's mansion to get it."

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" the shopkeeper agreed quickly. Twenty taels is twenty taels. If the matter is brought to the government, I'm afraid all the twenty taels will be lost. The chairs in this room are all second-hand items collected from other places. They are not worth much money, and the best ones are still usable. Twenty taels can be used to buy more, and there will be some left over.

Mosquito legs are meat too.

The lieutenant led the shopkeeper to get the silver. The shopkeeper walked away a few steps, then suddenly thought of something and came back. He asked Lou Yunchun, "Can you check the twenty taels too?"

Lou Yunchun nodded.

Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper left as if he had lost his parents. After a while, he asked the waiter to return the twenty taels of official silver that Lou Yunchun had paid.

When Old Duan saw Lou Yunchun putting the official silver into his purse, he suddenly realized what it meant to take it back.

After dealing with the assassin, the guards helped the waiter clean up the mess, and then rested in the house for the night.

After daybreak, everyone packed up and set off. The shopkeeper saw them out with a gloomy face.

Lou Yunchun and his group parted ways with the captain and his group. Old Duan saw that the assassins had been stripped down to their clothes and asked curiously, "What's going on?"

The captain pointed at the shopkeeper and said, "He's used all the clothes to pay off his debts."

Everyone couldn't help but look at the assassins with pity. All of the assassins had ferocious faces and red eyes. If they hadn't been caught, they would have wanted to bite off the flesh of these people, especially this black-hearted shopkeeper!

Lou Yunchun bowed to the captain and the soldiers, then said to the captain, "I'll leave these bandits in your care. Please thank General Kang for me when you return."

"Your Excellency, you are welcome. This is what we should do." The captain and the other soldiers returned the greeting and said, "Farewell, everyone. Take care."

Lou Yunchun said, "Take care."

Both sides brought their horses, waved goodbye, and drove off in different directions.

After they left, the shopkeeper brought a basin of water and poured it out the door, "Bah! A bunch of plague gods!" Then he warned the waiter, "Remember these people. Next time they come, don't serve any of them."
