Chapter 194 One Hundred and Ninety-Four

Suddenly, a Buddhist chant sounded from above, and then the man said, "Donor, this is a nightmare, you should wake up."

Lou Yunchun suddenly woke up, breathing heavily and sweat covering his forehead. He looked up and unexpectedly saw a shiny bald head.

He calmed himself down and then said solemnly, "What you just recited was the Heart Sutra."

"Amitabha, it is not too late for the donor to hear the Heart Sutra and break through the confusion." This Heart Sutra is not the same as that Heart Sutra.

Lou Yunchun calmed down and looked him over secretly before he stood up and said, "Thank you, Abbot."

The monk asked, "How do you know that I am the abbot?" He was clearly wearing ordinary monk's clothes.

"If you are not the abbot, how can you come and go in my meditation room at will?"

"It was my negligence."

It’s not that the monks are negligent, it’s just that the superiors are used to not being bound by the rules, so they don’t care.

The monk said, "I have just seen that you are suffering from nightmares. This is caused by the three poisons in your heart. Why don't you stay in the temple for a few more days to calm down and recuperate?"

The three poisons are greed, anger and ignorance. Lou Yunchun is very clear about his illness, but he has no intention of staying to recuperate because the antidote is not in the temple.

"I appreciate your kindness, Master. However, I am busy with important matters and cannot delay you. I hope you will forgive me."

"Amitabha." The abbot saw that his eyes were clear and his mind was pure. He clearly knew the root of the problem, but he was unwilling to treat it, so he did not force it. "Donor, your mind is not very stable. I will have someone send a burner of sandalwood to calm your mind later."

"Thank you." Lou Yunchun bowed to him.

The host smiled in return and then stood up to say goodbye.

After he left, Lao Duan came in with a bowl of medicine, a bowl of porridge, and two vegetarian cakes.

He asked, "Who was that master just now?"

"The abbot of the temple." Lou Yunchun felt much better after a good sleep. He put on his robes and stood up. "Is everyone settled?"

"Everything has been settled. The injured brother has been examined by a medical monk. He is fine."

"Thank you for your hard work. They will arrive at the Hexi Governor's Mansion the day after tomorrow, and then they can rest and recuperate."

After a long journey of nearly a month, Lao Duan showed a hint of joy at the thought that he was about to reach his destination. "We are finally there. This journey has not been easy." But then he thought of his brothers who died in the battle, and the joy was immediately washed away by grief.

The sound of evening chanting could be heard from the temple. Old Duan listened for a long time, then said to Lou Yunchun, "Sir, I want to go and light a perpetual lamp for my brothers."

Lou Yunchun nodded in agreement, "Go ahead."

Old Duan set the table for Lou Yunchun and watched him drink the medicine before going to his own meditation room to wash and change clothes. Then he found a novice monk to lead the way to the Buddhist hall.

The medicine tasted bitter, but the rock honey on Lou Yunchun's body had long since dissolved. There were people selling candies on the road, but he never picked up even a single one.

He endured the bitterness in his mouth and heart, waiting to find that sweet taste after returning to Beijing.

When the bitterness dissipated, he picked up his chopsticks accompanied by the chanting of Sanskrit.

In the Zen temple, there are clear porridge and white steamed buns, and the Buddhist chanting carries the Bodhi boat across. The living worship the eternal light before the Buddha, and guide the soul back to the east and enter the Jinglou.

Lou Yunchun had finished his vegetarian meal and was about to change his clothes and go to the Buddhist hall to listen to the sutras when a patrolman outside the meditation room came knocking and asking, "Master, are you awake?"

"What is it?"

"A merchant from the Western Regions named Yilale came to visit and said he wanted to see you."

I almost forgot, "Please invite him in."

"yes."

Lou Yunchun changed his clothes and groomed himself, then opened the door to welcome the guests. Not long after, the patrol guard led Ilale in.

"Brother Lou!" Yilale also dressed up specially, looking much neater, with a face full of joy of meeting an old friend in a foreign land.

A smile also appeared on Lou Yunchun's face. "Please come in."

As soon as Yilale entered the room, he smelled the smell of medicine and couldn't help but frown. Seeing that his face was pale, he asked with concern: "Is he sick or injured?"

"I had an accident on the way and suffered some minor injuries, but it's nothing serious." Lou Yunchun invited him to sit down, poured tea for him, and then raised his glass to say, "I hope you are well."

"I hope you're well." Yilale drank the tea in one gulp and smacked his lips, not tasting anything. "It's a pity that alcohol is forbidden in the temple, otherwise I would definitely drink with you."

Seeing his old friend for the first time, Lou Yunchun couldn't find the carefree joy he had at Liquanfang. His expression was unusually relaxed. "Even if we weren't in the temple, I wouldn't be able to drink with you for more than a few rounds."

Thinking about the amount of alcohol he had poured, Yilaer laughed and said, "I've been with Manager Xu for so long, how come my drinking capacity hasn't improved?"

Speaking of Xu Jiang, Lou Yunchun's eyes were filled with tenderness, "It's enough that she can drink well."

"Is everything okay with her in the capital?"

"It's generally good."

Hearing this, Yilaer thought to himself: "I guess there have been some setbacks. But overall it's good, not bad. How can it be perfect?"

"How about you?" Lou Yunchun asked, "Did your journey go smoothly?"

Yilale smiled and said, "It's generally good."

"Where's Ulolan?"

"She stayed in Furong City. I'll go back and find her after this trip." Yilale's eyes sparkled. "She wanted to come with me, but this was my first time traveling here, and I wasn't familiar with the market and roads. I was afraid she'd suffer with me, so I asked her to wait there. I'll bring her back next year."

"Are you at ease leaving her alone in Furong City?"

"I feel relieved with Madam Xu and Mo Ming's friends taking care of her. I'm just afraid that she will miss me and cry." Ilale said it frankly, but his expression was shy. In fact, he kept staring at Wuluolan's portrait and missed her so much that he cried.

Wuluolan is a strong woman.

"Congratulations." Lou Yunchun poured another cup of tea and offered a toast. "You've got what you wished for."

"Thank you very much." Yilale drank happily and then asked, "How are you and Manager Xu doing?"

Lou Yunchun put down his teacup and replied, "We are getting married." There was a hint of complacency in his tone.
