The cock crows at dawn, and the stars and the moon are slanting up.
Xu Jiang, Liu Mei, and the housekeeper Shan got into the car and drove towards Anhua Gate with the farewell of everyone in the mansion.
The city gate had not yet opened, and four people were guarding under the city wall, holding lanterns and pulling donkeys and horses. They were Manager Wang, Hu Xu, Song Qiao and Zeng Zhui.
Xu Jiang asked the guards to rein in their horses and then got off the car to meet the four people.
She laughed and said, "Even earlier than me." Then she said to Zeng Zhui, "Wen Feng is here too."
Zeng Zhui said frankly: "I am here to see you off so that I can take credit for it when I return." It was obvious to whom he was taking credit.
Except for Song Qiao who was unaware of the situation, everyone else couldn't help laughing when they heard it.
Manager Wang took out a jar of rice wine and several earthenware bowls from the cart, poured a bowl for Xu Jiang first, and then distributed it to everyone, even the housekeeper, Liu Mei and the guards.
Finally, he poured himself a bowl, walked up to Xu Jiang and said respectfully, "I won't say anything else. I wish my sister a safe journey and everything goes well."
Xu Jiang clinked her wine bowl with his, "Thank you, brother."
Hu Xudao raised his hand and said, "It's a long journey, please take care."
Xu Jiang also touched his lips and said, "Yes."
Zeng Zhui squeezed in between the two of them, tapped Xu Jiang's bowl, and said, "I'll take care of the school. Don't worry about Master Lin and Little Chu. But don't let us miss them too much. Go early and come back early."
This collision also dispelled the sorrow of separation. Xu Jiang said loudly, "I understand. You too. Don't let the Master worry too much."
Zeng Zhui sighed, "I really wanted him to forgive me, but it's not what I want."
Everyone laughed again.
Xu Jiang thought for a moment and said, "Chongzhou is not far from Fuzhou. When I return, I will stop by to visit Mr. Du. Do you have anything you want me to bring?"
Zeng Zhui beat his chest and stamped his feet, swaying his bowl of wine back and forth, spilling nearly half of it. "Oh my! Why didn't you tell me earlier? I should have written you a long letter last night and asked you to take it to him."
"I am Chang Xin, and I will tell him every word of your misdeeds."
"Don't worry, I'm not afraid of being scolded. I can't hear him anyway. Don't make him angry for nothing. It would be bad if he gets angry too much." Zeng pursued him in a flattering way, "If you say a few good words for me, I'll cook a delicious meal for you when you come back."
Xu Jiang stopped teasing him and said, "Don't worry, I will greet him for you and ask him to write back to you." Mr. Du must be always worried about this troublesome disciple.
Finally, it was Song Qiao who was blocked behind Zeng Zhui. Hu Xu saw this and pressed Zeng Zhui's neck, pushing him to his side. Zeng Zhui turned around and saw that he was blocking the way, so he apologized and made way.
Song Qiao bowed to him, then stepped forward to toast Xu Jiang, saying, "I hope you can be reunited with your aunt soon, and I hope you return safely."
Xu Jiang's heart warmed when she heard her address her mother, so she clinked her lips with hers and said, "Thank you." Then she smiled and said, "Please save that honeysuckle tea for me."
Song Qiao also smiled, "Okay."
The sky turned white, the bells on the city wall rang, and the city gate was about to open.
Xu Jiang raised her wine cup and said to the crowd, "Everyone, let's say goodbye now and meet again on a better day."
Everyone held the wine and drank together.
Butler Shan took the wine bowl and handed it back to Shopkeeper Wang. Shopkeeper Wang pressed his hand and said, "Thank you for your trouble along the way."
"You're too polite, boss. It's all my duty."
Two teams of city guards came down from the city wall in an orderly manner, and the heavy city gate was pushed open. Many people were waiting outside the gate. Most of them were merchants and peddlers who came to the city to do business, as well as travelers who had traveled a long way and wanderers who had returned from a long journey.
Xu Jiang got on the car, waved to everyone and went against the crowd.
"Wait until I come back."
Wait for me to come back, Chang'an.
Mountains and rivers are on the same day, and they will meet again tomorrow. Xu Jiang chased the morning light and soon disappeared at the end of the long road.
"It's time for me to go deliver the grain." Shopkeeper Wang put away his dejected expression, got on the donkey cart, and asked, "What about you guys?"
Zeng Zhui said, "I'm going back to the school."
Hu Xu glanced at Song Qiao and said, "Let me take you home first."
Song Qiao was about to refuse when Shopkeeper Wang interrupted, "Okay, okay. It's still dark out, and we're worried about the girl leaving alone. It's just right that you can go with her."
Zeng Zhui wanted to say why he was worried about the emperor's feet, but when he saw Wang the shopkeeper winking at him, he immediately understood, "Old Wang is right, it's time to send him off."
Hu Xu bowed to the two of them and said to Song Qiao, "Let's go."
Having said that, Song Qiao couldn't refuse, so he said goodbye to Manager Wang and Zeng Zhui and left with Hu Xu.
Zeng Zhui stared at the backs of the two and asked, "Is this what I meant?"
Shopkeeper Wang smiled so hard that his teeth showed, "That's exactly what I meant."
Zeng Zhui stroked his chin, "But this woman doesn't look like she has that intention."
Shopkeeper Wang said confidently, "That intention will come sooner or later."
Zeng Zhui was puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"Oh, that's what I mean."
"Which do you mean?"
After going around in circles, Shopkeeper Wang became dizzy and changed the subject, "Aren't you going back to the academy?"
Zeng Zhui nodded, "Yes, aren't you going to deliver food?"
The two stared at each other for a while, then went their separate ways.
Zeng Zhui sat on the donkey's back and pondered, "What on earth does this mean?"
Shopkeeper Wang looked back outside the city gate, sighed slightly, and then drove the car to deliver the food to the fireworks.
Hu Xu sent Song Qiao to the door of her home. After seeing her enter, he went back to his house to pack up and prepare to go to work. However, he didn't expect to meet Song Qiao again when he went out. She looked like she was about to go out as well.
"Where are you...going?"
Song Qiao sighed, "Leave the city and go to the mountains." She wanted to say it just now in front of the city gate, but she didn't have the chance.
Their eyes met, speechless for a moment.
