She paused for a long time before saying, "If the timing is not right, then don't say anything. Just seeing her and knowing that she is okay is enough."
Shan Bo remembered what the old man said, and he was afraid that Madam Wan was not in good condition.
He sighed, then took the visiting card and said, "Then I'll go now." He then instructed, "You and Liu Mei should rest well and get enough energy so that you can be ready for tomorrow's response."
"Okay, be careful on your way and come back early."
Xu Jiang sent Shan Bo to the door. The guard who had just driven the carriage brought a horse and rode on it with Shan Bo, heading towards Wanjia in the east of the city.
Liu Mei asked the waiter to prepare food and hot water, and brought them back to the guest room. Then she took Xu Jiang back to the guest room to rest.
After returning to the room, Xu Jiang breathed a sigh of relief, poured a glass of water for herself and Liu Mei, and said, "It's all my fault for being too impatient. I almost came here and made a fool of myself."
Liu Mei took the teacup and took a sip. Seeing that Xu Jiang was a little depressed and no longer as bright as before, she sat down and comforted her, "It's human nature to be worried and confused. It's just unfortunate that it happened to coincide with the Wan family's funeral, so it seems inappropriate."
She looked at Xu Jiang's pretty appearance and said with regret, "It's just that all this dressing up is wasted."
Xu Jiang thought it was okay. She didn't care much about these things anyway. She just wanted to see Liu Mei go through so much trouble for her, and she didn't want to appear too cold, so she coaxed her, "Now is not the right time. When we return to the capital, you can dress however you want."
Liu Mei squeezed her hand and sighed, "This dressing up isn't just for looks or to save face, but because I want her to see you and know that you're good-looking and doing well, and that you're not helpless. It'll reassure her."
"Sister Mei..." Xu Jiang held her hands with both of theirs, "How can you be so kind?" Then he added, "Not only you, but also uncle, aunt, and Yinyin. You are all so kind."
Liu Mei teased her intentionally and whispered, "You didn't mention the best one."
Xu Jiang's heart warmed, and she pretended to be dumb and said, "Who? Shan Bo? Shan Bo is also good."
"You're the best at pretending." Liu Mei broke free from her hand and tried to pinch her face, speaking up for her young master. "If my young master knew you had thrown him to the wind, he would be so upset."
"No, no." Xu Jiang twisted and dodged while begging for mercy: "Hey, Mei Jie, please forgive me, your young master is the best."
How could it be thrown into the sky? The bright moon was hanging high in her heart, illuminating her all the way.
The two quarreled for a while until the waiter knocked on the door and came in to bring water and food.
After dinner, the two washed up and rested.
Xu Jiang suddenly heard Shan Bo's voice coming from outside, saying that he had sent an invitation and scheduled a visit at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
She responded drowsily and fell asleep again.
When night fell, the night watchman on the street had already woken up, and suddenly a burst of hurried footsteps were heard in the outer corridor.
Xu Jiang sat up from the couch alertly and woke up Liu Mei. They both put on their clothes in the dark and then blew out the tinder to light the lamp.
At this moment, there were two knocks on the door, and Shan Bo asked from outside, "Liu Mei, are you guys up?"
When they heard that it was Shan Bo outside, they both breathed a sigh of relief.
Liu Mei replied, "Yes."
Xu Jiang asked, "Shan Bo, is there something wrong?"
Shan Bo was silent for a moment, then said, "Someone from the Wan family is here, and they want to see you."
