"Don't go." Xizhi said again.
She ran so fast that her legs felt weak, so Xu Jiang quickly turned around to support her.
Xizhi kept repeating these two words. Seeing Xu Jiang's face full of tears, she hurriedly wiped her tears with her hands, and the words "don't go" were replaced by "don't cry" - even though her eyes were also filled with tears.
"Mother." Wan Qingmiao stepped forward in surprise, his eyes wandering around Xizhi and Xu Jiang in confusion, and he said helplessly, "What's wrong with mother?"
Wan Sheng strode forward and embraced Xizhi, helping her away from Xu Jiang. However, Xizhi reached out and grabbed Xu Jiang's hand tightly.
He gently urged, "Madam, can you please come back to your room with me and rest?"
Xizhi didn't answer, nor did she let go.
Xu Jiang held Xizhi's hand, her lips trembling, and she was speechless for a while.
Wansheng's face became increasingly ugly.
The few of them remained in a stalemate for a while, and finally Shan Bo suggested, "Madam Wan isn't feeling well. Why don't we sit down and talk?"
Wan Qingmiao advised Wan Sheng, "Father, don't scare Mother."
Wansheng looked at Xizhi and saw tears in her eyes. He was stunned for a moment and then let go of her hand.
Liu Mei wiped Xu Jiang's tears. Xu Jiang suppressed her surging emotions, smiled at Xi Zhi, and then said softly, "I won't leave, and I won't cry anymore. Let's sit and talk, okay?"
After a long time, Xizhi seemed to understand the meaning of her words and her hands loosened slightly. Wan Qingmiao hurriedly helped her sit on a wooden chair beside her. Her eyes were always glued to Xu Jiang and never moved away.
Xu Jiang turned away and wiped her eyes, then said to Wan Sheng, "You saw it just now. She's not completely insensitive to the outside world. If she is sensitive, then there's still hope for recovery."
Wansheng looked at Xizhi, and his healthy hand couldn't help but tremble slightly.
Xu Jiang took the opportunity to suggest, "Why not ask a doctor to come and see if there's any hope?"
Wan Sheng turned to Xu Jiang and said, "I will find a doctor to treat Madam, so you don't have to worry about it."
"I should have taken the trouble." Xu Jiang didn't back down, straightening her back and looking him in the eye. "Master Wan, I can agree to everything else, except this one."
Wan Sheng said coldly: "You have no right to ask me."
"You have no right to control her life." Xu Jiang clenched his fists, his words becoming sharper. "I know what you're thinking, and I know what you're afraid of. If you truly cared about her, you wouldn't have dragged her into this illusion, wasting her life."
"Shut up!" Wan Sheng was stung and shouted angrily, "What do you know?"
"I don't know?" Xu Jiang walked aside, took down the red maple painting on the wall, and walked in front of Wan Sheng. "Who doesn't know? Or who is deceiving themselves?"
Everyone was stunned when they looked at the painting. Wan Qingmiao asked blankly, "What's wrong with this painting?"
Wansheng was breathing heavily and his face was pale.
Xizhi's gaze moved from Xu Jiang to the painting, and her eyes seemed to be colored by the fiery red.
Scenes emerged in her mind. It was a maple forest where she and he had their home. They wrote, read, and painted, and lived comfortably and happily every day.
She opened her mouth and after a while, silently uttered a name.
Xu Jiang didn't answer Wan Qingmiao, but stared at Wan Sheng, "Master Wan, do you really want me to break this window paper?"
"You, you threaten me?"
"I don't dare." Xu Jiang looked at Xizhi, "I just want her to be well."
"Father, Madam Xu, what's going on?" Wan Qingmiao stared at Wan Sheng and asked, "Father, are you hiding something from me?"
Wan Sheng was angry and took it out on him, "Go away, it's none of your business!"
Wan Qingmiao shut up feeling wronged.
Shan Bo stepped in to smooth things over, saying, "Master Wan, my daughter is young and energetic, and out of concern, her words may have been inconsiderate. I hope you can forgive me."
Wansheng didn't respond.
Shan Bo continued, "But, while our young lady's words may be blunt, they do make sense. Since Madam Wan has shown some interest in her, why not have a doctor take a look? If things improve, wouldn't that be a win-win for everyone? Even if things remain the same, we'll have done our best and have no regrets. What do you think?"
What joy? Whose joy? Don't think he doesn't know what this old guy is up to!
If Madam is awake, how can Xu Jiang's identity be concealed? What he has done over the years is a joke, and it will only end in embarrassment. When the mother and daughter recognize each other, will Madam still stay in the Wan family, by his and his son's side?
Naturally, what they promised me at the inn was also invalidated. What was hateful was that I couldn't put the blame on them.
Right now, these two people acted as a spear and a shield, letting them say all kinds of good and bad things to put him in a position of power. If he did not agree, it would be as if he was hoping that something bad would happen to his wife.
What a good plan!
He looked at Xizhi, but saw that she was staring at the painting again, and his heart ached more and more.
She could never forget that man, even though he had turned to ashes long ago.
Wan Qingmiao summoned up the courage to advise, "Father, I've never seen Mother like this in these days. Didn't the doctors say that as long as Mother wakes up and takes good care of herself, she can live longer?"
He took Wan Sheng's hand and said, "It just so happens that the doctor is coming to check Mother's pulse today. Why not call him now? It will give us peace of mind whether she's well or not." His eyes turned red as he spoke, "Someone has already passed away in our family, and I don't want Mother to..."
Thinking of his old mother who had passed away not long ago, Wansheng also showed a sad expression. Seeing his son's pleading and his wife's condition, he finally compromised and nodded.
