Yin Yin held the heavy box and sat in the carriage, happily imagining how great it would be if she could earn so much money every day in the future.
The carriage reached the main street and suddenly stopped. A commotion was heard outside. Yinyin lifted the curtain and was about to ask what was going on when she saw five teams of Dali Temple patrol guards, all tied in white linen, rushing towards the Golden Light Gate, gongs beating to clear the way.
People on the street looked at each other in confusion and talked among themselves.
Yin Yin asked: "What happened?"
The guard driving the car frowned, "Looking at the appearance, they must be going to greet the funeral."
"To welcome the funeral?" Yin Yin was stunned. "People from the Dali Temple are going to the city gate to welcome the funeral?"
The guard's heart tightened, and he hurriedly said to her, "Yinyin, sit tight, we're going to the city gate."
Yin Yin was panicking, "What are you going to the city gate for?"
The guard said in a deep voice, "Let's go and check the situation." After that, he turned the car around and followed the patrol guard towards the Jinguang Gate.
Yinyin hugged the money box tightly, and her mind gradually came to its senses.
The people from the Dali Temple went to the city gate to welcome the funeral, which means that some of their people had been sacrificed. Looking at such a large scene, it seems that the situation is not ordinary.
Jinguan Gate is the city gate facing west.
Yinyin remembered what the lady had said the night before, that the young master should be back by then... She suddenly felt cold all over.
She lifted the curtain and yelled incoherently, "Hurry... hurry!"
When the carriage was halfway there, it was stopped by Hu Xu and Zeng Zhui.
After stopping the carriage, the two men ignored etiquette and squeezed into the carriage with Yin Yin, urging the guards to drive to Jinguan Gate.
When they arrived at the main street of Jinguanmen, the carriage was stopped by patrol guards. The streets were crowded with people. Zeng Zhui and Hu Xu immediately jumped out of the carriage, told Yin Yin to stay in the carriage, and then squeezed into the crowd.
Yin Yin lifted the curtain and stood in front of the car to look out, but she saw that the city guards and patrol guards were all wearing white hemp and their expressions were very heavy.
At the front of the crowd, there was a group of people in mourning, supporting each other and crying.
Young Master, Young Master... Yin Yin clutched her clothes tightly, feeling like her heart was about to jump out.
Zeng Zhui and Hu Xu squeezed to the front and found that Yuan Zuzhi and Lin Fuzi were also there, so they hurriedly squeezed towards them.
Not long after, the Lou family's carriage arrived. Lou Jing's face no longer had the usual calmness. He looked very solemn and obviously very nervous.
Yin Yin wanted to call him, but she didn't dare, so she could only stand at the front of the car, staring blankly at the city gate.
As dusk was approaching, horns were blown from the city wall, followed by the sound of drums, bells, and cloud boards, and a heart-wrenching cry broke out from inside the city gate.
No one was talking or gossiping, all eyes were fixed on the city gate.
A gust of wind blew, and heavy white banners floated into everyone's sight. Under the banners, a group of people were leading three coffins into the city gate.
"Master!" Yin Yin saw the leader clearly and cried out with her hands covering her mouth: "It's Master."
The leader was Lou Yunchun.
Lao Duan, who was standing beside Lou Yunchun, raised his banner and shouted, "Brothers, we're going home!"
All the patrol guards of the Dali Temple dismounted and echoed with tears in their eyes: "Brothers, let's go home!"
Lou Yunchun dismounted, and a patrolman quickly took the white banner from his hand. He walked up to the families of the three patrolmen who had died in the battle, and bowed deeply to them with red eyes.
"I'm sorry for not being able to bring them back safely."
The families of the three men returned his greeting, suppressing their grief. Then they all ran towards their respective sons, husbands, fathers, and brothers, prostrated themselves on the coffins, and burst into tears.
The patrol guards also stepped forward to greet their colleagues and brothers and comfort their families.
Many of the onlookers couldn't help but shed tears when they saw this scene. Only those who had ulterior motives quietly slipped out of the crowd and dispersed to various places to inform others when they saw the prison van at the end of the team.
Lou Jing staggered forward and saw that his son was much thinner than before. His face was sallow, his lips were pale, and he looked sick. He couldn't help but shed tears.
"Son, you're back." He hugged Lou Yunchun into his arms, patted his back, and choked up, "It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back."
"Father." Lou Yunchun hugged him and said apologetically, "I'm sorry for worrying you." Then he asked, "How is Mother?"
Lou Jing wiped his tears and said, "Okay, she's fine."
Then he looked at the coffin parked in front of the city gate, and a wave of fear came over him. He had expected this journey to be dangerous, but he had never imagined that so many lives would be lost. These were all elite members of the Dali Temple, carefully selected from hundreds of thousands.
He pinched his son's arms and shoulders, and seeing the bandage on his neck and the smell of medicine on his body, his heart tightened.
Lou Yunchun shook his hand and comforted him, "Father, don't be afraid, I'm fine."
Lou Jing's throat was blocked and he was so heartbroken that he couldn't speak.
Yuan Zuzhi, Lin Fuzi, Hu Xu, and Zeng Zhui also gathered around, their expressions heavy yet relieved.
Lou Yunchun bowed to each of them.
Zeng Zhui held his arm and said with emotion: "Brother Lou, you are finally back."
Hu Xu saw that he looked tired and haggard, and knew that his journey had been arduous. Then he looked at the weeping behind him, and sighed softly in his heart, and comforted him: "It must have been a hard journey, but it's good that you're back."
The person who comes back can feel at ease.
"It's my duty, so I dare not complain." Lou Yunchun said in a low voice amidst the bursts of tears: "Besides, compared with them, this little hardship is nothing."
When everyone looked at it, they couldn't help but feel sad.
Yuan Zuzhi's eyes also welled up with tears, and he sighed repeatedly. Seeing his friend's lingering fear, he patted his back and advised: "Now that he has returned, you should also keep quiet. You are not young anymore, don't hurt yourself."
Lou Jing took a deep breath and shook his head, saying, "I'm sorry to have made a fool of myself."
"It's human nature to be disturbed by concern." Master Lin saw that Lou Yunchun looked tired and dejected, but his expression was unusually gentle. He asked with concern, "Do you have to report to the palace later?"
