Xizhi said, "Since you are so understanding, I feel relieved."
Lou Yunchun felt a little relieved and said, "Aunt, please just call me by my name."
He was arrogant but not pretentious. The more Xizhi looked at him, the more satisfied she became. "Good."
As luck would have it, the maid brought her some tea. She took it and said to Lou Yunchun, "Have some tea, Xiaolou."
Lou Yunchun was stunned for a moment when he heard this, then raised his teacup in response.
After three rounds of tea, they talked for a while, and then Wan Sheng asked Wan Qingmiao to take Lou Yunchun to settle down. While it was still early, he took him for a walk and they would have dinner together later.
Lou Yunchun stood up and bowed to the couple, saying, "Excuse me for disturbing you."
Wan Sheng smiled and said, "Just treat it as your own home. There's no need to feel restrained."
Xizhi warned Wan Qingmiao: "Don't neglect your brother Lou."
So he could call me brother? Wan Qingmiao felt uncomfortable, but appeared obedient on the surface. "I understand, mother." Then he said to Lou Yunchun, "Let's go, Brother Lou."
Lou Yunchun bowed slightly to the two of them, then followed Wan Qingmiao out of the Huafeng Hall.
After the two left, Wan Sheng said, "He's a good person."
"A Jiang has good vision." Her daughter was not confused and knew what she wanted.
Thinking that Xu Jiang had passed away in Yongsui, Wan Sheng's smile faded a little. He wondered what she would think when she saw the garden and the temple.
"Changshi, what's wrong?"
"Nothing." Wan Sheng came back to his senses and said to her, "You haven't had your lunch break yet. You still have to have dinner with Yunchun later. Go back to your room and get some sleep to refresh yourself."
Xizhi nodded, "Okay." She had to get well to attend her daughter's wedding.
Wan Qingmiao and Lou Yunchun walked side by side through the maple forest and came to the outer garden.
Seeing that he didn't respond, Wan Qingmiao felt depressed. He thought that he had asked too many questions and upset him, so he tried to make amends by saying, "Don't mind me just now. It's just that my sister kept praising you in front of us. I was curious and couldn't help asking a few more questions."
"She said I was nice?" Lou Yunchun raised his lips.
"Sister is a good person. She thinks everyone is good." Wan Qingmiao murmured quietly while stealing glances at Lou Yunchun. "Isn't it just that she's prettier, taller, and a little more perceptive? And she's the one who praises you the most."
"She's very good." Lou Yunchun finally spoke, "Is she used to being here?"
"What's so strange about going back to your own home? It's pretty good." Wan Qingmiao talked about how they climbed mountains together, picked persimmons together, celebrated festivals together, etc. Lou Yunchun listened very carefully and occasionally interrupted to ask a few questions.
Seeing that Lou Yunchun was not angry, Wan Qingmiao just felt it was boring. Then he thought again, most of the persimmons were taken to the capital, which made him feel depressed for a while, so he simply didn't say anything.
He stopped talking, but Lou Yunchun started talking, "There is a persimmon tree in our garden. It bears a lot of fruit every year, but the taste is not good. It is hard and astringent, so it has never been popular."
Wan Qingmiao said complacently, "The persimmons in my house are different. Even Shan Bo said they are sweet after eating them."
"My persimmons used to be either hung for display or picked to make compost. It wasn't until I met her last year and had her pick them and make persimmon cakes that I realized they were delicious." He ate most of the persimmon cakes, which have been sweet ever since last year. "This year, the tree has more fruit than usual. By the time she returns to Beijing, they should all be ripe and ready for making persimmon cakes."
Wan Qingmiao finally realized that what this person wanted to talk about was not the persimmon tree, but his sister.
"Why eat dried persimmon cakes when you can eat fresh persimmons? You have to peel them, dry them in the sun, and then keep them covered for a month or two before you can eat them. It's such a hassle. I think hanging them as decorations is a good idea."
"She's not afraid of trouble, and neither am I."
"I know, I know, I'm scared." Wan Qingmiao rolled his eyes in annoyance and walked forward quickly.
The two men came to a yard where several servants were sweeping fallen leaves. When they saw them, they all bowed.
"This place is called Luoyuexuan. Although it's not a big place, it's quiet and peaceful. It's also close to my yard, so I can take care of you."
"Very elegant." Lou Yunchun praised and asked, "There's a falling moon, but are there still clouds?"
It’s true. The courtyard where Xu Jiang lived before was called Tingyun Pavilion.
"Why don't you stay in my yard? You'll have some company."
"Don't bother, this place is fine."
"Didn't you just say you weren't afraid of trouble?"
"You're afraid."
Wan Qingmiao forced a smile, "You are really considerate."
Lou Yunchun politely replied, "Thank you."
Wan Qingmiao was discouraged. "Let's go. I'll take you around first."
Wan Qingmiao led Lou Yunchun around the courtyard, explaining the layout, location, and furnishings. Finally, he pushed open a bright room and said, "Let's live in this one. It's bright and ventilated."
"good."
When the two entered, Wan Qingmiao helped them arrange their luggage and had a servant bring some tea and cakes. He then asked, "Although it's the wrong time and not very suitable for the occasion, I still have some mooncakes made by my sister. Do you want some?"
"Eat." Lou Yunchun nodded heavily.
Wan Qingmiao then instructed the servant to bring some mooncakes along the way.
After a while, tea and snacks were served. The tea was Qiulu again, and there were also some snacks such as osmanthus cake, water chestnut cake, moon cake, etc.
Wan Qingmiao raised his cup and said, "Please enjoy."
Lou Yunchun took a sip of tea, then picked up the mooncake and took a big bite. It was indeed Xu Jiang's work.
Wan Qingmiao watched helplessly as a plate of six mooncakes were eaten by Lou Yunchun in the blink of an eye. He was a little dumbfounded, "Aren't you tired of eating so much?"
It's a bit sweet and a bit cloying.
Lou Yunchun picked up the tea and drank half a cup before he felt his throat feel better.
