When the two meet again after separation, they must have endless things to say and endless emotions to express, so it would be better to let them be alone for a while.
The two came to the altar.
Xu Jiang helped Lou Yunchun to the altar, found a cushion and placed it behind the stove, letting Lou Yunchun sit down next to the warm stove.
She touched his face and asked, "Are you still cold?"
"Not cold." Lou Yunchun's eyes were glued to her, never moving away for a moment.
"Your face is pale, and you still say you're not cold." Xu Jiang put her palm against his face, tears welling up in her eyes. "As soon as we can leave, let's go back to the inn, take a hot bath, and change into clean clothes."
Lou Yunchun rubbed her palm and said, "Okay."
As long as I'm with her, everything is fine.
Several other people who fell into the water also came to the stove to keep warm. Among them was Lou Yunchun, who was clinging to the man in the water and refused to let go.
He came to the stove and wanted to take off his clothes to warm himself by the fire, but he ran into a pair of mandarin ducks. He immediately turned around and reminded them, "Sorry to bother you!"
Xu Jiang was startled and quickly retracted his hand.
The man felt that the two looked familiar, so he took a quick look and discovered that they were his saviors. He then quickly turned around and saluted them.
"So you are my benefactors. Thank you both for your help."
Xu Jiang waved his hand awkwardly, "You're welcome."
The man looked at Lou Yunchun, thinking that he had almost gotten him into trouble, and felt guilty and ashamed. He asked with concern, "Is this brother okay?"
Lou Yunchun didn't look at him, "It's okay."
Xu Jiang looked at Lou Yunchun and saw him staring at her intently. Her heart seemed to be burned and immediately jumped up and down in her chest.
"He...he should be fine."
"I'm glad you're okay, I'm glad you're okay." The man felt a little embarrassed seeing how clingy they were. He was also afraid of being an eyesore and getting in the way, so he pointed ahead and stammered, "I, I'll go ahead."
After saying that, he went forward.
People came to the altar one after another to take offerings to the water god. Those who wanted to go to the back were stopped by the man, leaving only a quiet space for the two of them.
Xu Jiang didn't dare to do it again. She found a cushion and sat opposite Lou Yunchun, half a step away.
The two looked at each other tenderly, without saying a word, yet it seemed as if they had expressed a thousand words.
After seeing enough of him, Xu Jiang asked, "How did you know I was here?"
Lou Yunchun filled her into the mold he had carved out of his memory. When she was vivid in his eyes and in his heart, he slowly replied in a hoarse voice, "I went to Chongzhou."
With just one sentence, Xu Jiang figured out the whole story, "Have you seen your mother?"
Lou Yunchun nodded, a trace of heartache in his eyes, "It's all my fault for coming back too late, otherwise I should have come with you."
Xu Jiang shook his head. "Don't blame you. I can handle it." Then he smiled bitterly and said, "Besides, your sudden appearance today is enough to give me nightmares for several days. If you come back then, I don't know how scared I would be."
The thought of returning without accomplishing anything makes me feel cold.
"Nightmare?" Lou Yunchun raised his voice.
Xu Jiang said angrily, "To pull your beloved out of the water with a single rod, what else could it be but a nightmare?"
If the sweetheart's heart were taken out and thrown into the river at this moment, it would probably flutter in the air more happily than the fish.
Thinking about the danger just now, Xu Jiang was frightened and couldn't help asking: "How did you appear in the river?"
"Rescue people." Lou Yunchun slowly recounted to her how he crossed the river, how he rescued people, and how he appeared at Xu Jiang's pole. "I heard Shan Bo and the others were looking for you. They thought you fell into the water, and when they saw the bamboo raft was blocked and couldn't get in, they swam in to look for you. Unexpectedly, I was caught off guard and was dragged down."
Xu Jiang was terrified and said anxiously, "Are you stupid? The river is so fast, haven't you thought about what would happen to your uncle and aunt if something happened? What should I do?"
"I was in a hurry and couldn't think too much. Besides, this is my job, so how could I just stand by and watch someone die?" Lou Yunchun leaned over and whispered soothingly, "Besides, you've already rescued me."
Xu Jiang's voice trembled slightly, "What if I hadn't rescued you?"
"There are boats blocking the way below, so nothing will happen."
"The river is so deep, if we are swept down by the undercurrent..."
"A Jiang." Lou Yunchun called her and moved closer. "Look at me, I'm right here. I wasn't swept under."
The blend of their breath was warm.
Xu Jiang looked into his eyes and gradually calmed down, "I just..." She was just afraid of losing again.
She had lost enough and didn't want to lose him or anyone else.
"Don't be reckless in your future actions. Think more about your parents and me."
"Okay." Lou Yunchun wiped her face.
Xu Jiang felt a little embarrassed. She didn't know why, but as soon as she saw him, her tears seemed to flow endlessly.
She sniffed and asked, "How's the capital? Are uncle and aunt okay?"
Lou Yunchun just felt that she was pitiful and adorable, and his tone was unnaturally gentle. "Everything is stable inside and outside the court. Father is busy with the official assessment and the Autumn Festival. Mother is also doing well. She just misses you very much."
Xu Jiang sighed, "These days since you left, Auntie has been missing you and worrying about me. This time, she couldn't bear to leave me behind, so she even sent Sister Mei to accompany her. It's really hard for her, a quiet person, but because of us, she can't have a moment of peace."
