"The letter is in the box. Besides the letter, there are also several notebooks written by Mr. Du. He asked me to give them all to you and told you to write back to him after reading them."
Zeng Zhui said proudly, "It seems that Lao Du still cares about me."
"I often praise you to my old friends." Preparing for the exam was boring and busy, and he needed encouragement. Xu Jiang told him how Du Hui praised him to his friends.
Zeng Zhui was so delighted after hearing this that he wanted to turn into a firecracker and burst into applause. "Did he really say that?"
Xu Jiang nodded, "It's absolutely true. Zhaoyue and I can testify to that."
"I believe it, I do." Zeng Zhui couldn't wait any longer and wanted to go back to read the letter as soon as possible, so he urged Xun Yan, "Master Xun, let's go back. It's a big day today. I'll cook some delicious dishes later and we can celebrate properly."
Xun Yan didn't know what he was celebrating, but when he heard that there would be delicious food tonight and thought about Master Lin and Xu Jiang wanting to reminisce about the past, he said goodbye to everyone and went back with him.
Xu Jiang shouted to Zeng Zhui, "Remember to write back. I'll come get it tomorrow."
Zeng Zhui waved his hand and said, "I'll send it to the bookstore for you tomorrow."
After seeing the two off, Xu Jiang asked Yin Yin to take Wu Zhi to find Lin Hongchu, while she and Master Lin went into Bajizhai.
Yin Yin brought Wu Zhi into the backyard and stopped when she smelled the fragrance coming from the kitchen.
The aroma is familiar, like roasted taro.
Her mouth began to feel numb again.
Lin Hongchu was preparing dinner in the kitchen. There were steamed pumpkin, steamed taro, steamed eggs, and steamed cakes. They were all gifts from the villagers of Leyou Township to thank the teachers and students who helped plant rice and farm during the Imperial College's Book-Waste-Wrecking Conference.
They had been eating for quite a while, and after she had steamed, boiled, fried, deep-fried and roasted the food, it was finally almost finished.
She took out the taro that was thrown into the ashes, brushed off the ash, picked them up one by one and put them into the bamboo dustpan. She also brought out the steamed pumpkin, taro, steamed eggs and steamed cakes, and prepared to set the table for her father to eat when he came back.
"Sister Red Hoe."
"Yinyin?" Lin Hongchu leaned out and saw two people entering the yard, both carrying things. She quickly ran over to take them. "You're here, so why are you carrying so many things?"
"It's Sister Xu's wedding dress and some gifts for you and Master Lin."
"Sister Xu is back!" Lin Hongchu took the wooden box from Yinyin's hand, extremely happy, "Where is she?"
"I'm talking to the teacher in the study. I'll be here soon."
"Is father back too?"
"Well, we just happened to meet him at the door." Yin Yin took the things from Wu Zhi's hand and carried them into her bedroom with Lin Hongchu.
Lin Hongchu carefully placed the box on the bed and asked Yinyin, "Is this Sister Xu's wedding dress? It was made so quickly?"
"Well, I brought them here specially for you to try." Yin Yin placed the things in her hands on the small table beside her. "And these are the specialties of Fuzhou that Sister Xu brought back for you and the teacher."
"The box of things I asked someone to bring back last time is still sitting there, and now..." Lin Hongchu's eyes fell on Yin Yin's face and froze for a moment, then he covered his mouth and laughed, "Yin Yin, what's wrong with your mouth?"
Yinyin was laughed at countless times today and gradually felt numb.
Her eyes rolled, remembering the aroma she had just smelled and Lin Hongchu's astonishing cooking skills, and she said pitifully, "I got poisoned from eating roasted taro."
"Ah?" Upon hearing that she was poisoned, Lin Hongchu's smile faded, his expression becoming serious. He held her face and asked, "Is anything serious? Have you seen a doctor?"
Yinyin pointed outside and said, "I've checked. The doctor is standing in the yard."
"Doctor? You silly girl! Why didn't you tell me earlier? I thought it was one of your maids."
Lin Hongchu pulled Yinyin and hurried outside. Seeing Wu Zhi standing in front of the peach tree that Xu Jiang had dug up from the mountain, she coughed lightly.
"I'm sorry, sister, for being inattentive."
Wu Zhi turned around, his brows and eyes looking heroic and relaxed, "You've taken really good care of this jujube tree."
Lin Hongchu was stunned for a moment, then smiled and said, "Thank you for the compliment."
