"Make amends?" Song Qiao stared at her, feeling both surprised and amused. "Today, you come to me and ask me to make amends?"
"Yes, only now can I make amends to you." Madam Lu confessed to her, "You must know that I married into the Lu family as a concubine. Madam Lu dislikes me, and even less so you. She is resentful of my background and my marriage to your father. For so many years, she has never handed over the power of the housekeeper. Because of her dignity, I cannot come to see you."
Song Qiao said indifferently: "Didn't you ask for this yourself?"
Madam Lu said, "I asked for it. If I want to be with my beloved and live a good life, I have to pay the price."
A beloved? Her new husband? Song Qiao was lost in thought, thinking of Madam Lu's glamorous husband. What about her and her father? Was this the price she paid for her beloved and wealth and glory?
A gray figure appeared in Song Qiao's mind. She felt sorry for him and sad for herself.
"Now that the Madam is bedridden, the Lu family is under my control. I don't have to look at her face anymore. From now on, I can come to see you whenever I want."
"No need, I don't want to see you." Song Qiao, who wanted to see his mother, had already been abandoned by her over the years.
Mrs. Lu was stung by this and couldn't help but speculate maliciously, "You hate me so much, it seems your father has been making up stories about me in front of you."
Song Qiao's eyes were as cold as glass, "No, he never mentioned you."
Mrs. Lu choked and didn't say anything for a long time. She told herself in her heart that Song Qiao's current resentment and hostility towards her were all deserved, and only then did she calm down.
She looked at Song Qiao carefully. She saw that she was dressed simply, and her complexion was not as delicate and rosy as her younger daughter's. She even looked overworked. She frowned and asked, "Are you still selling flowers everywhere?"
“What else can a flower girl do if she doesn’t sell flowers?”
"Girls should be kept pampered in their boudoirs. How can they be exposed to the elements and the sun?"
"That's because I don't have a good mother like the second young lady of the Lu family."
"You!" Mrs. Lu's calmed anger was ignited again by her words. She lowered her voice and scolded, "Is this what your father taught you? You have no sense of etiquette and no respect for your elders."
"That's enough." Song Qiao turned and glared at her, "You have no right or standing to accuse my father."
She took a deep breath, turned away and said, "Madam Lu, you have never looked down on him or me, so why bother condescending to bring yourself to trouble?"
"I..." Madam Lu noticed the hurt in Song Qiao's eyes, and a trace of regret flashed across her face. "I don't look down on you. You are my daughter, how could I look down on you?"
"Don't say those two words." Song Qiao's eyes misted up, but she quickly dispelled it. She then walked to the door and opened it. "Go away. Don't come back from now on. You are not welcome here."
Two maids outside the door looked in in surprise.
Madam Lu stood there for a moment, then walked out the door. After stepping out, she turned to Song Qiao and said, "Ah Qiao, you must remember that you will always be my daughter, and I will always be your mother. There is an indelible blood relationship between us that no one in the world can surpass."
Song Qiao pursed his lips and said nothing.
Madam Lu sighed slightly, "I'll come again." Then she said to the two maids, "Let's go."
The three of them walked a short distance when Song Qiao's voice came from behind, "Wait."
Mrs. Lu's expression lit up with joy and she immediately turned around, only to see Song Qiao returning to the courtyard, bringing out the two boxes she had brought, and handing them to the maid beside her.
"Take your things away and don't smoke my flowers." After leaving this sentence, Song Qiao walked into the yard and closed the door heavily.
Mrs. Lu left with a gloomy face.
Because I was feeling depressed, I didn't pay attention to the front and almost bumped into the person coming in.
The other party apologized first: "It was unintentional to offend, I hope you can forgive me."
She gave him a cold look, then walked around him and out of the alley.
Two maids followed her into the car. She lifted the curtain and looked at the two doors closed by Song Qiao. Then she met the man's inquiring eyes, and she immediately lowered the curtain again.
"Go back home."
After the carriage left the alley, a maid asked, "Madam, have you mentioned that to Miss Song?"
Madam Lu was enraged and scolded, "When did it become your turn as a servant to ask about the master's affairs?"
The maid shuddered, then she remembered that things had changed at home, and she quickly apologized, "Madam, please forgive me. I will never dare to say anything more."
Mrs. Lu had no place to vent her resentment, so she punished him by saying, "Slap him in the face."
The maid looked at her in horror, but was frightened by the cruelty in her eyes. Then she gritted her teeth, raised her hand, and slapped herself hard in the face, while the other maid remained silent.
Hu Xu walked to the entrance of the alley, staring at the departing carriage, and tried to guess the woman's identity. Judging by the carriage's make, it must be the wife of an official. This alley was inhabited by ordinary people, so why would an official's wife come here?
And the direction the woman was looking at just now...
Hu Xu turned around and saw that Song Qiao's door was not locked, so he walked up and knocked, but no one answered after knocking for a long time.
"Song Qiao, Uncle Song, are you home?"
After a while, he felt the door panel tremble, and then the door was opened a crack, revealing half of Song Qiao's pale face.
Hu Xu's heart tightened, and he hurriedly asked, "Ah Qiao, what's wrong with you?"
As soon as he asked, Song Qiao's tears immediately rolled down.

"Red Hoe!"
"Sister Xu!"
Lin Hongchu rushed towards Xu Jiang and threw himself into her arms, almost knocking her to the ground.
