Chapter 26 Twenty-six Cuts

Lou Yunchun was holding the persimmons, feeling a little helpless, afraid that they would be damaged.

Xu Jiang thought it was fun, so she would make some noises to scare people from time to time, but she became less and less afraid of him.

In the end, Lou Yunchun spent a large sum of money, one or two taels of silver, to buy a gorgeous brocade box, carefully placed the persimmons inside, and only then did he feel at ease.

Xu Jiang couldn't stop him, so she had to let him go.

"Hey, that lady." Xu Jiang suddenly heard someone calling. At first she didn't think they were calling her, but after the person called her several times, she couldn't help but look back.

It was the man from the Western Regions whom I met at the night market last time.

The man didn't set up a stall today and seemed to be out for fun. Xu Jiang stopped and waited for him to catch up.

Seeing this, Lou Yunchun turned around with her.

The man from the Western Regions laughed and said, "I called you so many times but you didn't respond. I thought I recognized the wrong person."

"Not setting up a stall today?" Thinking of his venison and pomegranate wine, he felt a little greedy.

"During the Lower Yuan Festival, people fast and no one eats meat."

"Oh, I forgot." His memory was really getting worse and worse. Xu Jiang asked again, "You called me, but what's the matter?"

The man said enthusiastically, "Last time I saw you were such a good eater and talker, and I heard you were in contact with people from my hometown, so I wanted to make friends with you. But you left in a hurry that day, so I didn't have time to ask. I didn't expect to meet you today by chance, so I called you over." He then introduced himself, "My name is Yilale, what's your name, ma'am?"

"My name is Xu Jiang. Yilale? Does it mean new moon?"

"You know?" Ilar asked in surprise.

"I also heard about it from my friend from the Western Regions. His name is Mo Ming."

"Now you have two friends from the Western Regions."

"It's my luck."

The two of them had a very pleasant conversation. Lou Yunchun was of a dull nature and could not say anything, so he just stood by and acted as a pillar.

Xu Jiang glanced at him and introduced him to Yilale: "This is my friend, Lou Yunchun."

Ilal greeted with a smile, "Hello, I'm Ilal."

"Lou Yunchun." Lou Yunchun nodded.

Yilaer glanced back and forth between the two of them, self-satisfied. Knowing that people from the Central Plains were reserved, he simply said, "I live in Liquanfang. If you come, just say my name and you'll find me."

Xu Jiang replied, "I live in Zhanchun Bookstore in Yonghefang, and you're welcome to visit me."

"I will definitely come." After saying that, he glanced at Lou Yunchun's expression again. He knew that if he disturbed her again, the lady's lover would get jealous, so he said goodbye to the two of them and went to another street.

Seeing him walk away, Lou Yunchun said, "Most of the people living in Liquanfang are Hu people. If you want to go, don't go alone."

Xu Jiang nodded. Although the Hu people were mostly hospitable, their customs were different from those of the Central Plains people, so there were always many conflicts. As a result, some Hu people and some Central Plains people had misunderstandings about each other and often had lawsuits.

Seeing that she didn't understand what he meant, Lou Yunchun added, "He just invited the two of us."

"Huh?" Xu Jiang was stunned for a moment, then chuckled and said, "I see. I'll call you if I go."

Lou Yunchun's ears felt a little hot, and he pretended to look ahead. There was a magic show going on ahead, surrounded by many people. He suddenly frowned, stuffed the brocade box in Xu Jiang's hands, asked her to hold it for him, and then quickly walked over there.

Xu Jiang was confused and was about to give chase when she saw a sudden commotion in the crowd. It turned out to be a pickpocket, stealing people's purses. Lou Yunchun pulled the pickpocket out of the crowd and, like a little chicken, twisted the pickpocket in his hands. He kicked the pickpocket in the thigh, and the pickpocket immediately became obedient, only to cry out in pain.

Xu Jiang wanted to go over, but Lou Yunchun shook his head at her, so she had to stand there and wait.

Lou Yunchun took the pickpocket to the temple fair patrol office, explained the reason, and then said goodbye to several people and came to find Xu Jiang.

"Sorry for the wait."

Xu Jiang shook her head and asked, "You are wearing your official uniform today. Am I delaying your official duties?"

"No, I don't have to go around everywhere."

Xu Jiang saw that the patrolmen were constantly looking in this direction and felt that it was not a good idea after all, so he said, "If it's inconvenient, let me walk around on my own."

Lou Yunchun was silent for a moment, then nodded, took the gift box from her, and left. The patrolmen saw him come back, their expressions stiffening. Seeing his uneasy expression, they fell silent, scanning the crowd with a feigned seriousness.

Angry? Xu Jiang stared at his back, regretting letting him go. However, there was no way to call him back, so she stood there for a while and then walked to the other side.

Although the surroundings were clearly bustling with activity, Xu Jiang felt it was somewhat deserted. She shook her head, discarded this inappropriate thought, and continued walking inside.

She visited many shops and stalls, touched the lucky turtle, drew lucky lots, and finally, in a shop selling lanterns, she saw a lantern with a picture of a donkey.

The donkey was indeed a bit ugly, but it was deeply loved by Xu Jiang.

"This lantern has been hanging all night and hasn't sold. Since you like it, I'll sell it to you at a discount." The shopkeeper took down the donkey lantern and asked, "Would you like one?"

"want."

The shopkeeper lit the donkey lantern and handed it to her, saying, "Just give me five cents."

Xu Jiang gave the money and prepared to go home with the lantern in hand, but when she turned around, she was stunned - Lou Yunchun was standing not far away.

The lights were dim, and the two looked at each other across the crowd, both a little surprised. One didn't expect he was still there, and the other didn't expect her to look back.

He didn't leave?

Xu Jiang took a closer look and found that he had changed into casual clothes. Her heart suddenly felt like a ball of burning charcoal was stuffed into it, burning it up and down.

At this moment, in this scene, with this person, what else is there to not understand?

But, why?
