When Xu Jiang opened the door in the morning, she saw Hu Xu standing in front of it.
"Zhuchun?" She quickly let someone in. "It's so cold, why didn't you knock on the door?"
"I was afraid I'd disturb your sleep." Hu Xu handed her the gift. "I wanted to give it to you yesterday, but I couldn't find the time."
Xu Jiang took the things, quickly stepped aside, and went to light the stove. Hu Xu naturally went to help. When the fire started, the room soon became warm.
"I got a new kind of tea yesterday, and it's a good opportunity for you to come and try it together."
"good."
Xu Jiang fetched the Kuizhou Xiangyu tea she'd bought at the temple fair the day before, boiled some water, and added two cups each. Then, they sat across from each other and drank. With the glow of the fire and the aroma of tea lingering in the air, Hu Xu felt the fatigue of the past few days melt away.
"how?"
"First bitter, then sweet, that is the true taste of life."
Xu Jiang smiled, "As expected of Zhu Chun, even a simple cup of tea can teach you profound truths." Then she asked, "Are you used to being Mr. Yuan's student?"
"Mr. Yuan is well-versed in both history and current affairs, and his writing is meticulous and thoughtful. I have benefited greatly from him. It is the greatest honor of my life to have him as my teacher."
"Who knows, Mr. Yuan might also feel lucky to have Zhuchun as his student. Zhuchun, you have great talent and a bright future ahead of you."
"The boss is always praising Zhuchun, but I'm not that good." Hu Xu took a sip of tea to hide the admiration in his eyes.
"If you're not well, nothing will get better." Xu Jiang hadn't had breakfast yet, and after a bowl of tea, she felt even hungrier. Thinking Hu Xu had come so early, he must not have eaten yet, so she asked, "Would you like some kudzu powder?"
Hu Xu's brows relaxed and he smiled, "Okay."
Xu Jiang got up and went to the backyard kitchen, and Hu Xu also went to help, one of them holding a bowl while the other found the flour. After pouring the flour, Xu Jiang found some dried dates, preserved fruits, and nuts, pounded them, first mixed the kudzu starch with boiling water to make a soup, then sprinkled it on top, and it was done.
Hu Xu asked her, "Do you want sugar?"
Xu Jiang nodded, "Add."
He then found the candy as if he knew the place, and put some in Xu Jiang's bowl, not his own, as he did not like sweets.
Each of them held a bowl and sat back in front of the stove to eat slowly.
While we were eating, Manager Wang came to the door.
He couldn't hold it in all night, so he went to Xu Jiang early in the morning to ask who the man surnamed Lou was. However, he didn't expect to see Hu Xu as soon as he entered the house.
"Oh, Zhuchun is here!" He walked over warmly, squeezed in and sat down next to him, and said, "This kudzu powder looks really good."
Xu Jiang asked, "The water is still boiling on the stove. Do you want some? I'll make you a bowl."
Shopkeeper Wang hurriedly said, "I want to eat, I want to eat! Thank you for your help, thank you for your help."
After Xu Jiang entered the kitchen, he pulled Hu Xu in front of him and asked with gritted teeth, "What were you doing yesterday? It's the Lower Yuan Festival, such a beautiful day, and you left Madam Xu alone? Now, someone else has gotten there first!"
Hu Xu was stunned, not quite understanding, "What?"
Shopkeeper Wang wanted to chisel his head open to see if it was filled with only books. "Bookworm, you're such a bookworm! Tell me, what were you doing yesterday?"
"Yesterday, there was a clan sacrifice, and in the afternoon I went to give a festival gift to the teacher. I didn't return until late at night. I thought the host must have gone to the temple fair, so he didn't come."
"Oh, you can still find a wife with your current condition?" Shopkeeper Wang rolled his eyes almost to the sky. Then he glanced towards the kitchen and whispered, "Did you know that someone has also set their sights on Shopkeeper Xu? If you had come a little later, you might have been able to attend her wedding soon!"
Hu Xu was stunned for a moment, then asked anxiously, "Who?"
"He's a tall, imposing young man, his last name is Lou. I've only met him twice, so I don't know much about him." Seeing that he was finally getting nervous, Shopkeeper Wang added, "But I think he's just like you. He doesn't know how to please others. He always has a sullen face, as if someone owes him money."
He mentally compared Hu Xu and the other man and decided that Hu Xu was the better match for Xu Jiang. Although he was a bit dull and tongue-tied, he was gentle and caring, without any ulterior motives. He was the perfect husband, just like himself.
"What are they whispering about?" Xu Jiang came in with a bowl of steaming hot kudzu powder and handed it to Shopkeeper Wang, saying, "Eat it while it's hot! It won't be good if it gets cold."
"Oh, okay!" Shopkeeper Wang took the kudzu powder and drank it loudly. In between, he kept winking at Hu Xu and said, "Go ahead!"
Hu Xu clenched his fists tightly and looked at Xu Jiang, seeming to want to say something but stopping himself.
Xu Jiang looked at the two men's quarrel and asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
Oh no! Shopkeeper Wang was so anxious that he simply asked himself: "Madam Xu, forgive me for asking, who was that young man from the Lou Mansion who went to the temple fair with you last night?"
His question made Xu Jiang a little flustered. She immediately lowered her eyes and used a spoon to scrape the remaining kudzu powder in the bowl.
When Manager Wang saw this, he knew it was over. It was obvious that the girl had fallen in love with him.
Hu Xu's clenched hands loosened, and he felt his palms go cold. "Boss, you..."
Xu Jiang looked up at him and said, "That's Lou Yunchun, the son of Master Lou Jing." She added, "We just ran into each other on the street last night and started walking together."
Lou Jing's son, Shaoqing of Dali Temple, Lou Yunchun.
Hu Xu was so famous, so reputable, how could he not know about her? Was he also interested in Xu Jiang? When? And what about Xu Jiang? Was she interested?
Shopkeeper Wang was very disappointed to see Hu Xu still standing there. People say that the one who is close to water gets the moon first. He had been watching the moon every day, but it was pushed away by someone. Who could he blame?
Xu Jiang saw the two men's expressions and knew they had misunderstood. It was hard to tell whether it was a misunderstanding or not, so she simply said, "Master Lou and I are just friends."
