“Sister——!”
"Sadakichi, you're here."
Seeing his happy look, Xu Jiang was also happy and could not bear to scold him. She just asked Liang Mo to lead all the people he brought to the backyard of the bookstore and help unload the goods and settle them.
"Sister, where is mother?"
"I'll wait for you at the bookstore. Let's go." Xu Jiang led him to the bookstore. When neighbors asked him along the way, he answered calmly, "This is my younger brother."
Following her introduction, Wan Qingmiao busied himself getting close to the family and building relationships with them.
He was handsome, sweet-spoken, and didn't have the airs of a rich young man. As he walked down, he called everyone "big brother" and "big sister" and praised them all, making everyone laugh.
"I once heard my elder sister say that after she came to Beijing, the neighbors and friends took great care of her. So, I brought some local specialties from our hometown for you to try and enjoy as a token of our gratitude. I hope you won't mind."
As soon as these words were spoken, they immediately won gratitude and praise.
Some praised him for his ability to handle affairs, some praised him for his generosity, and some praised him for his handsomeness. He accepted them all and became so proud of himself that his tail was almost flying in the sky.
Shopkeeper Wang heard the noise and came out of the yard. When he saw a spirited young man standing next to Xu Jiang, whose features bore some resemblance to Xu Jiang, he knew that this was Xu Jiang's brother.
"Hey, this is my brother Qingmiao?"
When Wan Qingmiao heard the energetic greeting, he immediately turned around and saw a man with a friendly face and a portly stature walking towards him with a smile on his face.
Xu Jiang introduced him in his ear: "This is the sworn brother I told you about before. He is also the owner of the rice shop in front. You can call him Brother Wang."
"Oh, so this is Brother Wang." Wan Qingmiao stepped forward and saluted him, then praised: "Brother, you are indeed extraordinary. You look rich and noble at first glance."
Shopkeeper Wang was delighted, then stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder, saying, "My brother is just like my sister, eloquent!"
He praised both of them and there was no one more eloquent than him.
The two hit it off right away and walked towards the bookstore arm in arm. Xu Jiang smiled and shook her head, then followed them.
When they reached the door, Xizhi came out just in time to greet them. The mother and son were delighted to see each other.
"A Miao."
"Mother." Wan Qingmiao bowed to Xizhi.
Xizhi pulled him up and then led him into the house.
Xu Jiang quickly asked Yin Yin to prepare tea and snacks and let everyone sit down and talk.
After not seeing each other for a long time, the mother and son looked at each other first.
When Wan Qingmiao saw that his mother had a rosy complexion, a calm demeanor, and looked a little plumper, he knew that Xu Jiang took good care of her, and the worry he had felt along the way finally settled down.
"Mother, I miss you so much." Wan Qingmiao, regardless of the presence of others, took Xizhi's hand and began to act coquettishly, "Father misses you too, so he took this opportunity to pay tribute and asked me to come and take you back."
"Okay." Xizhi saw that her son had become darker and thinner. Thinking that this was his first time walking such a long distance, she felt a little distressed. "Thank you for your hard work."
Wan Qingmiao shook his head and grinned excitedly, "It wasn't hard. I encountered a lot of interesting things along the way. I'll tell you about them later."
"Yeah." Xizhi nodded with a smile.
Xu Jiang said, "My mother and I have prepared a welcoming banquet for you. Please tell us more."
"Thank you, mother and sister." Wan Qingmiao glanced at Xu Jiang's bundled hair and asked, "Why don't I see my brother-in-law?"
Xu Jiang smiled and said, "I'm on duty at the government office. I won't be here until later."
Wan Qingmiao said with regret, "It's a pity that my father and I can't attend your wedding. It must have been a very festive and lively occasion."
"It was quite lively." Shopkeeper Wang continued, and described the lively scene of the wedding day to him in vivid detail.
Wan Qingmiao was so excited when he heard this, as if he was there in person. He kept giving advice and saying what to do, and soon he became familiar with Manager Wang.
Xizhi and Xu Jiang saw this and couldn't help laughing.
After the two of them finished talking, Xu Jiang asked, "Zhenji, when will the caravan set off to return to Chongzhou?"
Wan Qingmiao said, "We have to wait for the Ministry of Revenue to issue the tribute approval document and the list of tribute for the next season before we can leave. I estimate it will be early next month."
That means there are still about ten days left.
Xu Jiang said, "Then you can go wandering around the capital." You can also discuss with Lou Yunchun to find a good day to hold a banquet for the two families to get together.
Shopkeeper Wang said, "It just so happens that I'm free these days. If A Miao doesn't mind, I can be your guide."
Wan Qingmiao's eyes lit up. "That's perfect. I was just thinking of buying some Beijing goods to bring back. With big brother leading the way, I don't have to take a detour."
Then he continued, "I also heard that you are in the rice business, so you must be familiar with the rice market. My family also has a granary in Chongzhou, and I want to bring some fresh grain back from other places, but I'm worried about not having a reliable person to help me with the transaction. Now that I've met you, I don't have to look for anyone else."
"Who else is as reliable as your elder brother?" Shopkeeper Wang became excited when he talked about his own business. "This is easy. There's no farm, grain farmer, or grain merchant in Beijing that I don't know well. Just follow me, and I'll make sure this matter is handled for you."
"Thank you, Brother Wang!"
The two hit it off immediately and quickly agreed on a date to go on an inspection together.
As they were chatting happily, Liang Mo came in from the backyard and said that everything had been put away.
Xu Jiang took the opportunity to introduce the two to each other. Since they were of similar age and had outgoing personalities, they quickly became familiar with each other.
Wan Qingmiao remembered the gifts he had brought, so he called his followers, cleared out all the things, and then went with Xu Jiang to deliver them to each household.
Shopkeeper Wang, Liang Mo, Yin Yin, and even Shan Bo, Liu Mei and the guards in the house were not left behind.
