The nourishment of Suzhou's gentle mist and rain makes the Mulan scenery look like the morning dew, full of elegance, crystal clear and beautiful.
In contrast, Zhao Xiu at this moment was like an autumn leaf trampled into the mud, sad and dilapidated.
Mulan He's pretty eyebrows were almost twisted into tendrils. She took a few steps forward and looked at Zhao Xiu. The man in front of her had disheveled hair and was barefoot, with his clothes drooping. He was completely different from the handsome scholar she had imagined at first.
"Are you really Zhao Xiu?" Could it be that you have amnesia?
Zhao Xiu came back to his senses and saw that the two of them looked strange. He looked down and said "Excuse me" and ran away. After running out, he turned back and grabbed Mei Er's collar, who was peeking at the door, and beat him while heading to the backyard.
About half an hour later, Zhao Xiu reappeared in the flower hall.
He bathed, changed his clothes, and even burned some jade hairpin incense. To sum it up with Mei Er's words, it can be summed up in four words: a dog-like appearance.
Mulan He looked at him and nodded with satisfaction, now she looked like a serious person.
Zhao Xiu took Mei Erzhi to buy cakes. "Buy one each of the candied date cake and red bean starch cake from the cake shop on South Street. You can buy the rest as you wish."
These two kinds of pastries from that bakery are Mulan Jing's favorites.
Mulan Jing couldn't help but curl her eyes when she heard him sign up for the job.
Mulanhe poked her and whispered, "I'm just the 'rest' who makes up the numbers."
A layer of pink can be seen under the white skin of Mulanjing.
After Zhao Xiu sent Mei Er away, he walked towards the two of them. He first bowed to Mulan He and said, "Please give my congratulations to Brother Mu."
Mulanhe bowed in return and said, "I'll tell my brother."
Zhao Xiu then looked at Mulan Jing and said softly, "How are the teacher and mistress?"
Mulan Jing gestured and replied: Everything is fine.
Mulanhe added, "My aunt has also returned to the capital, and she and Lan Jing are still living in the same house."
"I will pay a visit tomorrow to pay my respects to Master's wife."
Mulan nodded, indicating that she would convey the message to her mother.
Afterwards, Zhao Xiu brought a low table and a futon and set them up not far from the two of them. Seeing that there was not even a cup of tea on the table, he apologized, "There are few people in the family, and the servants are clumsy and incompetent. I am sorry for the delay."
Mulan Jing waved her hand to show that she didn't care.
Zhao Xiu smiled at her, then went to the garden to find a servant and asked him to boil a pot of tea.
When she turned back, she passed by a magnolia tree and saw that the flower buds on the treetop had turned white. She tied up her skirt, climbed up the tree, broke off two branches, found a vase to fill with water, and went to the flower hall happily.
The two girls were whispering to each other. When they saw him come in with flowers, they were a little surprised, but then their faces turned into joy.
Mulan He glanced at Mulan Jing, pursed her lips and smiled, dimples forming. Then she stood up and said, "The hall is a bit stuffy. I'm going to walk around the garden and take a look around."
Mulan Jing raised her body to get up, but she held her down and whispered, "Don't panic, I'll be back soon."
Mulan He walked up to Zhao Xiu and said, "Is there any place in this house that I can't go to? Let me ask first to avoid breaking any taboos."
Zhao Xiu said: "There are no taboos, Miss Mu, please feel free to do as you please."
"Then I won't be polite." As they passed by, Mulan He whispered, "Don't bully my sister."
Zhao Xiu nodded. He was so worried about her that he didn't dare to bully her.
Mulanhe then walked briskly out of the flower hall and went into the garden.
Zhao Xiu placed Mulan in front of Mulan Jing. Mulan Jing thanked her shyly, then touched the dewy flower bud and smiled at Zhao Xiu.
Zhao Xiu took a deep breath and said softly, "I received your letter."
In the letter, Mulan Jing congratulated him on his release from prison, advised him not to be disturbed by rumors and worldly affairs, and encouraged him to study hard for the exam. The little girl spoke in a very detailed manner, filling up a piece of paper, but Zhao Xiu always felt that it was not enough.
"Thank you, Lan Jing."
Mulan Jing lowered her head and covered half of her collar shyly.
Zhao Xiu was stunned for a while, then asked, "Are you going back to Beijing this time?"
Mulan Jing hesitated slightly, and finally nodded.
"How long will it last?"
Mulan Jing raised two green fingers.
"Two months?"
"Um."
Two months is too short. His exam will be delayed for a month. If he passes, he will have to take the assessment from the Ministry of Rites, and he will have little free time to accompany her.
Seeing that he looked depressed, Mulan Jing said: Don't worry, I have my sister to accompany me.
Zhao Xiu smiled slightly, but sighed in her heart: How can they be the same?
The servant who was delivering tea bumped into Mei Er and had his job taken away by Mei Er.
Mei Er was standing by the door of the flower hall, and saw two people in the hall talking to each other, asking and answering each other smoothly, with their mouths never closing.
He coughed twice and said, "Boss, I bought the cakes."
The two of them paused for a moment, and Zhao Xiu took the cakes and teapot from Mei Er's hands and said to him, "Miss Mu has gone to the garden. You go and look after her and make sure she doesn't get bumped."
Mei Er glanced at Mulan Jing, and he understood clearly. He nodded hurriedly and said, "I understand. I'll go right away."
Having said this, he retreated into the garden.
Zhao Xiu glanced at the garden for a few times, then came and sat down in front of Mulan Jing.
Mulan Jing moved the flowers aside, then stared at the cakes in his hand expectantly. Zhao Xiu seemed to remember the time when they were at Mu's house, and she had the same expression every time he brought cakes to her.
Things change, but Lan Jing remains Lan Jing.
Zhao Xiu spread the cakes in front of her and said, "Try it and see if it tastes the same as before."
Mulan Jing picked up a piece of red bean starch cake and tasted it, then squinted and nodded. It tasted the same as before.
She finished a piece of red bean and cornstarch cake and then a piece of candied date cake. Zhao Xiu was afraid that she would choke, so she poured her a cup of tea.
Mulan Jing pushed the cakes in front of him, and Zhao Xiu also tasted a piece, and then praised: "Delicious."
