Master Lin and Lou Yunchun stared at each other, Xu Jiang's eyes darting back and forth between their faces. Seeing Master Lin's face growing darker, she cleared her throat and was about to speak to break the deadlock, but Lou Yunchun spoke again.
"She is the only one in my life, and I will never be with anyone else."
Hearing this, Master Lin's expression gradually warmed up. Although it was not much, the tension between the two of them was no longer as tense as before.
"Xu Jiang."
Xu Jiang, who was named, immediately straightened his back and said, "Hey."
"What did you promise me?"
"Sir, I was wrong."
Master Lin was choked by her quick apology and almost forgot what he was going to say. Seeing her timid appearance, it seemed as if he was the evil person who broke up the couple, and he felt inexplicably angry.
"If I ask you to break up with him, will you agree?"
Xu Jiang knew that he was just speaking in anger, and wanted to agree with him to comfort him, but when she looked up, she saw Lou Yunchun's dark eyes, and she couldn't say anything. But it was not easy to directly refute Master Lin, so she had to lower her head and pretend to be a quail.
Master Lin was furious.
Lou Yunchun took two steps towards Xu Jiang, blocking Master Lin's gaze, and said in a serious tone, "She and I are in love with each other. Please help us get married."

Xu Jiang quickly tugged at Lou Yunchun's sleeve, stepped out from behind him, and sincerely admitted her fault: "Master, this is all my fault. I shouldn't have kept it from you." Seeing that Master Lin's expression had eased slightly, she added: "It wasn't intentional to hide it. It's just that the time wasn't right, so it was difficult to speak."
These words finally hit the nail on the head and mostly dispelled Master Lin's anger.
"When we first met, I told you that we were relatives and would take care of each other. I also told you that I would not interfere in other matters, but this marriage required me to review it on behalf of your master. Now you are hiding it and not saying a word. Do you treat me as a relative?" Although the words were spoken harshly, his face was soft, but there was still some resentment, and he was unhappy unless he expressed it.
Xu Jiang only admitted her fault and did not make any further excuses. Master Lin was satisfied with his lecture, but suddenly he thought of Lin Hongchu and asked again, "Does Hongchu know?"
Lin Hongchu froze in place before he even took a step into the house.
If she said she didn't know, the teacher probably wouldn't believe her, so Xu Jiang had no choice but to nod sadly.
Lin Hongchu immediately widened his eyes and poked Xu Jiang's spine with grief and anger.
Was she sold just like that?
"Red hoe!" Master Lin glanced at him with his sharp eyes and was about to scold him, but Mrs. Lin's words came in like a spring breeze and rain, immediately extinguishing Master Lin's anger.
"The child finally came here, what are you making such a fuss about?"
Xu Jiang quickly turned around and, despite Lin Hongchu's accusing gaze, helped her to help Madam Lin in.
"Why are you up?"
Mrs. Lin's eyes fell on Lou Yunchun, who immediately bowed to her. She nodded with satisfaction before replying to Master Lin, "I heard Hongchu say there were guests, so I came over to meet them."
"Come and sit down." Master Lin took the person over and placed him on the chair in front of the desk.
Mrs. Lin looked at the teaching plans on the table and collected them. She then said to Lin Hongchu, "Hongchu, go make two cups of tea."
"Okay." Lin Hongchu looked at Xu Jiang deeply and went out.
Madam Lin smiled at Lou Yunchun and said, "I'm sorry for neglecting you, young master."
Lou Yunchun said hurriedly: "Auntie, you're welcome."
Not stupid at all.
Xu Jiang couldn't help but glance at him, and when she turned around she saw Master Lin staring at her. She quickly looked at him with her eyes and nose, and put on a submissive look.
Mrs. Lin felt relieved when she was called "Auntie". She looked at Lou Yunchun with increasing satisfaction and said, "He's a good child."
Upon hearing this, Master Lin snorted coldly.
"This room is piled high with books, and there's no room for two more chairs. I'm sorry to bother you."
"Junior, just stand."
"I heard from Hongchu that the young master's surname is Lou?" After Xu Jiang, Lin Hongchu was sold by her mother again.
Master Lin frowned, "You knew this a long time ago?"
"Um."
Master Lin couldn't get angry with her, so he could only glare at Xu Jiang.
Xu Jiang smiled apologetically.
Lou Yunchun said, "Aunt, my surname is Lou, my given name is Yunchun, and my courtesy name is Zhaoyue. You can call me Yunchun or Zhaoyue."
Mrs. Lin smiled and said, "Then let's call it Xiaolou."
Lou Yunchun was slightly stunned.
Xu Jiang let out a "puff" and immediately stopped.
Lou Yunchun glanced at her and replied, "Okay."
Madam Lin continued, "I came here so suddenly that I didn't prepare any tea or food. The Winter Solstice is almost here. Would you like to come to my house for a meal and have some fun?"
Lou Yunchun nodded and said, "Okay."
Madam Lin looked at Xu Jiang again and said with a smile, "Is it settled then?"
Xu Jiang also nodded, "I'll listen to you."
Master Lin looked gloomy when he saw that no one asked for his opinion. Madam Lin glanced at him and patted his hands. Only then did he lift his brows and say, "It's just an ordinary family dinner. No need to be too grand. Just come."
The atmosphere finally relaxed.
Just then, Lin Hongchu came in with tea. She first handed one cup to Lou Yunchun, and then handed the remaining one to Xu Jiang.
Xu Jiang smiled at her. Her mouth was dry from being frightened by Master Lin just now, and this tea was just the right thing to quench her thirst. She took the tea and drank a big gulp, then spat it all out with a "puff".
There is a kind of gaoru wood in the south, which is similar to tea but very bitter. You can use the shavings from it to make tea.
Whenever Master Lin felt sleepy at his desk, he liked to use it with mustard sauce and willow twigs to refresh himself.
When they came out of Nanshan Academy, it was already dark. The two of them lit a plain lantern and went to lead the horse and untie the donkey.
The donkey and horse, chilled by the night wind, put aside their past grudges and huddled together for warmth. The stubborn donkey, upon seeing Xu Jiang, howled at the top of its lungs. Fearing it would disturb the neighbors, Xu Jiang slapped it on the head.
