Chapter 62 Sixty-two Cuts

"There's no need to be too impatient. Thanks to your tact and that Madam Xie's, you caused such a scene in public and sent Jiang Gu to Qianjin Hall. If he really wants to attack again, he'll have to wait until this is over. By then, Jiang Gu will have left..."

The head slid from his shoulder and buried itself in Lou Yunchun's chest. He looked down and saw that Xu Jiang was already fast asleep.

He carefully lifted her onto his lap, leaning her against his chest. He then pulled a thin blanket over him, wrapped her tightly, and held her firmly.

The person in his arms moved restlessly, so he patted her back and coaxed her in a low voice: "Go to sleep, I'm here."

Xu Jiang slept soundly, opened her eyes, rolled around in the quilt for a few times, and then reluctantly got up to change her clothes.

But when she lifted the quilt, she realized that she had slept with her clothes on. She was stunned for a while before she remembered that she had warmed herself by the fire with Lou Yunchun after dinner last night and had fallen asleep without realizing it.

Was it him who carried me back to the room?

Xu Jiang only felt her cheeks were hot, which must be because she had just woken up.

She pushed open the door. The snow had stopped, the haze had dissipated, and the light of the sky and snow reflected up and down, dazzling people.

When the stubborn donkey heard the door opening, he got up from his den and brayed at the top of his lungs.

Xu Jiang squinted his eyes and saw that the fallen snow around the donkey shed had piled up into a snow wall, half a person's height, covering the donkey so that only the donkey's head was visible.

Xu Jiang was happy, "Why are you calling it that? It's good, it blocks the wind."

The stubborn donkey was so angry that it opened its mouth and gnawed a hole in the snow wall, and then used its hooves to dig it open. After digging it open, Xu Jiang saw that Lou Yunchun's horse was lying inside, and a cat was curled up on the horse. It was Yue Nu.

No wonder he was angry, it turned out his nest was occupied.

Xu Jiang was stunned again. The horse was still there, but where was Lou Yunchun? She ran to the bookstore, but found the door open. Outside, Lou Yunchun was shoveling snow.

He didn't know when he started shoveling, but the area near the door had already been cleared, and he was now shoveling the snow on the road leading to the corner gate.

Xu Jiang stood by the door and watched for a long time before going to wash up. Then he took a shovel and shoveled the snow in the yard.

She first shoveled a path to the corner gate, then listened to the noise outside, pushed the door open with a bang, and came face to face with Lou Yunchun outside.

Lou Yunchun showed a surprised expression at first, then smiled at her and said, "Good morning."

She gave him a spirited smile in return, "Good morning, Zhaoyue."

The two of them worked together to shovel all the snow in the yard out the door. After going back and forth several times, they were sweating and steaming.

The breakfast vendors finally came out, and today they had hot steamed buns. Xu Jiang bought two bowls and shared them with Lou Yunchun.

It was the first time that the peddler saw Lou Yunchun, so he couldn't help but take a few more glances at her. Seeing that the two of them behaved in a natural and friendly manner, he thought to himself: This bookstore lady is probably going to settle down in the capital.

As they sat opposite each other and ate steamed buns, Xu Jiang asked, "Are you not going to court today?"

"No bathing today."

"Not going home?"

Lou Yunchun looked up at her and said, "Come back later."

Xu Jiang narrowed her eyes and smiled, suggesting, "Then let's go to the market later and stock up on food. If we encounter heavy snow again, we can stay indoors and spend the winter there."

Lou Yunchun raised the corner of his lips, "Okay."

Just after breakfast, Lin Hongchu arrived, carrying a food box. Seeing Lou Yunchun there, he greeted him, "Brother Lou, you're here so early? Come, try some of the pancakes I made."

Xu Jiang and Lou Yunchun exchanged a glance, both feeling a little embarrassed. Xu Jiang cleared her throat and waved to Lin Hongchu, "It's rare for you to cook. Let me have a taste of what it tastes like."

Lin Hongchu was also very eager. He quickly walked up to her and sat next to her, then took out a cake and handed it to her attentively.

Xu Jiang's smile froze and he stared at the cake and fell silent.

Is this a cake? Not some charcoal from the stove?

Lou Yunchun said, "I'm going to harness the donkey cart and I'll call you later." Then he got up and walked quickly to the backyard.

Xu Jiang stared at his fleeing back, and when she turned around, she was almost poked in the face by Lin Hongchu with a cake.

Lin Hongchu brought the cake to Xu Jiang's lips and coaxed her, "Master, try it and see if it tastes good."

Xu Jiang stared at the cake for a long while and asked, "Little Hoe, have you tasted this cake yourself?"

Lin Hongchu nodded and said, "I tasted it."

Maybe it just looks unpalatable. Xu Jiang persuaded herself in her heart, reluctantly taking Lin Hongchu's hand and taking a bite of the cake.

Lin Hongchu looked at her expectantly, "How is it?"

Xu Jiang's expression changed again and again, vomit——

Xu Jiang drank two cups of tea before she finally suppressed the burnt taste in her mouth. Then she asked Lin Hongchu, who looked very disappointed, "Since you've tasted it, how dare you give it to others to eat?"

Lin Hongchu said aggrievedly, "I sent it to you because I thought that the owner might be knowledgeable and useful."

Xu Jiang was speechless. Is this what being knowledgeable and experienced is for?

"Is it really that bad?" Lin Hongchu stared at the black pancake and sighed, "It seems I won't be able to meet a soulmate."

Xu Jiang also sighed and thought to herself: To be your soulmate, you must have a strong life.

"A Jiang, the harness is ready." Lou Yunchun's voice came from outside the door.

"Right away."

"A Jiang?" Lin Hongchui blushed at the sound of his voice, and it was so affectionate.

Xu Jiang stood up, grabbed her cloak, and put it on. Lin Hongchu went over to help her tie the collar. She pinched Lin Hongchu's face and said, "Watch the bookstore carefully. If anyone comes, turn them away. If you see people like Feng Miao and Zhou Huai again, just close the door and refuse them."

"I don't need to worry about that. Boss, just go with Brother Lou."

"When did you change your tune?"

"After you were caught by father, mother told me to call you that, saying that only by calling you that, we are considered family."

Xu Jiang felt a warm feeling in her heart. "Auntie, have you been okay these past two days?"

"It's fine. I wrote a few words yesterday." Lin Hongchu smiled when he mentioned his mother. "It's tied."
