Chapter 70 Seventy Cuts

Lou Yunchun hadn't seen Xu Jiang in a few days and missed her like crazy. Her teasing now made his heart burn with anxiety. But in broad daylight, with the door open, he couldn't get too intimate, so he just hooked his hand under the table and stared at her with his dark eyes, not blinking.

Xu Jiang was also concerned about him, so she let him pull her and stare at her. When her thin skin could no longer bear the staring, she asked, "Why did you come here today?"

"After all the files were reviewed and submitted, I asked for leave from the Saint."

Seeing the faint blue shadow under his eyes, Xu Jiang could not help but put her palm closer to him as he must have been busy interrogating day and night.

"Don't rush like that next time. Your body can't handle it."

"good."

This man agreed verbally, but if there was a next time, he would still do the same. How could Xu Jiang not know him? She could only sigh, and at the same time feel heartbroken.

"The account with the Imperial College has been settled."

"Um."

"Song Xuelu said that after the second edition is published, he will order another 100 copies."

“How many copies are you planning to print in this second edition?”

"Five hundred. If sales are good, there will be a few hundred more copies for the third edition."

Lou Yunchun was a little worried. "Can you and Lin Hongchu make it? And Madam Lin's health..."

"Don't worry, I've asked the paper mill owner to find a printer to help me. I don't have to do everything myself like I did with the first edition." Xu Jiang had noticed that Mrs. Lin was becoming increasingly depressed during her visit to the Nanshan Academy, so she had left Lin Hongchu in charge. She planned to have Lin Hongchu return home to take care of her mother in a few days, and not work at the bookshop for the time being.

Hearing that she wanted to ask the craftsman Lou Yunchun felt relieved. Seeing that she was worried about Madam Lin, a hint of melancholy flashed in her eyes. He rubbed her hand to comfort her, then asked softly, "Is there anything to eat?"

"Hungry?" Xu Jiang came back to his senses. "No breakfast?"

Lou Yunchun nodded.

"There's red bean porridge in the pot, but it's cold now. Do you want some? I'll make it for you."

"All good."

"Then let's make some pancakes."

"good."

Xu Jiang stood up and went to the kitchen. Lou Yunchun was about to follow her, but she pushed him back to his seat. "You watch Si for me. It will be ready soon."

Lou Yunchun could only watch her disappear behind the small door.

Yue Nu emerged from her den, stretched, and circled him a few times before scrambling up his back. Lou Yunchun tried to grab it with his backhand, but it wouldn't let go. Man and cat tore at each other, tearing the fine brocade robes apart.

Lou Yunchun grabbed Yue Nu's neck, and it finally behaved itself, barking at him a few times to please him. Lou Yunchun patted its butt a few times, and finally pressed it into his arms and stroked its fur.

Xu Jiang was in the kitchen, mixing dough for pancakes, using a small amount of flour and a generous amount of water. She added a duck egg and a chicken egg, mixing them into two flavors: sweet and savory. She added honey for the sweet and salt for the savory. Then she set up the stove, set up the pan, and began to bake.

You don't need too much oil, and the fire doesn't need to be too high. Just use a low fire, brush the oil evenly, use a spoon to pour the batter along the wall of the pot, and then spread it evenly. After a while, the aroma of the oil and noodles will spread.

When the batter is formed, turn it over and fry it until both sides are golden brown before removing from the pan and frying the second one.

The first one was sweet. Xu Jiang drew a cross on it with a knife, put it on a plate, and brought it to Lou Yunchun.

"Eat it while it's hot. It's a filling meal first, there's more to come." After saying that, he quickly went to the pot.

Lou Yunchun picked up a piece and ate it slowly. Yue Nu smelled the fragrance and came out of his arms to go to the table, but he brushed her off. Then he picked up a piece and stood up to put it in his bowl.

"Excuse me, is Xu Jiang here?" A voice came from outside the door. Lou Yunchun looked up and saw a man who was dressed a little sloppily.

The person who came was Ma Twelve.

Lou Yunchun walked over and saw him looking around. He asked, "Who are you and what do you want from her?"

He was so imposing that Ma Twelve felt three inches shorter when he saw him. He lowered his voice and replied, "I'm a relative of hers. I heard she opened a bookshop here, so I came to visit."

"Who did you ask?" Lou Yunchun was extremely cautious. First, he had never heard Xu Jiang mention any relatives. Second, people like Feng Miao and Zhou Huai had previously plotted against him, so he was naturally wary of strangers. Furthermore, the man had a hunched figure and a shabby demeanor. As soon as he entered the shop, he looked around. Lou Yunchun knew his heart was not right and his intentions were not sincere.

Because the caravan needed to buy new horses, Ma Twelve followed the cook to the West Market to look for horses. The cook told him to go to Zhao Zhang's stable to ask for an explanation and the money back, but Zhao Zhang was out repairing horses, leaving him empty-handed. Just as he was about to leave, he heard a boy talking to a customer buying fodder about Xu Jiang, so he approached and asked a few questions. The customer, who owned a paper mill, knew Xu Jiang and, hearing that she was from the same clan, directed Ma Twelve to the place where he was looking.

He took advantage of the fact that the cook was too busy to pay attention and sneaked out, asking around as he walked, and finally found Huailiu Lane.

He stood in front of the bookstore. Without asking anyone, he knew he had found the right place as soon as he saw the sign. He then began to think that since Xu Jiang could open such a bookstore in the capital, she must have the money to redeem him, and after redeeming him, she might even be able to let him stay in the capital.

From now on, he no longer had to suffer running around with the horse team, nor did he have to be whipped by the cook and sleep in the stable.

Ma Twelve's abacus was clacking loudly, but he put on a pitiful look. He shouted into the tavern, but instead of attracting Xu Jiang, he attracted a ferocious man.

"I'm asking you a question, why don't you answer it quickly?" Lou Yunchun was used to interrogating people and cases. Seeing that he didn't answer for a long time, his tone couldn't help but become a little heavier.

Ma Twelve was startled, afraid that he would hit someone, so he stammered, "I happened to run into someone she knew in the West Market, and he pointed me here."

Lou Yunchun frowned and asked again, "You said you are from the same clan as Xu Jiang. Do you have any proof?"
