Xu Jiang approached and saw that Yuan Yanyan's cheeks were red, so she asked, "Did you catch a cold?"
Yuan Yanyan called out in a muffled voice, "Sister Xu, you're here."
Hearing the sound, it seemed that he had caught a cold.
Madam Yuan angrily said, "It's all your own fault. You didn't sleep at night and insisted on imitating people who walk around with lanterns. No matter how much I tried to persuade you, you wouldn't listen. Now look what happened. You caught a cold and you can only cry for your parents."
A night walk with a lantern? What's the point of a walk in the dark winter night?
Yuan Yanyan reached out a warm little hand from under the fur blanket and took Xu Jiang in hers, asking, "Sister Xu, did you come to see me today?"
Xu Jiang said softly, "I came to give you a gift. Thank you for sending the plum blossom wine to the shop last time."
"Is the wine good?"
“It’s delicious.”
"It shows that my cooking skills are not bad." Yuan Yanyan smiled proudly and asked, "What gift did you bring, sister?"
Madam Yuan laughed and scolded, "It's rude! How can you ask for gifts in front of guests?"
"It's okay, it was originally for her." Xu Jiang took the gift from the little girl and opened it to show Yuan Yanyan.
Yuan Yanyan sat up, and Madam Yuan hurriedly supported her and asked the maid to bring a pillow to put behind her back. She also asked the maid to bring a round stool for Xu Jiang so that she could sit and talk.
“This is plum blossom paper.”
Xu Jiang opened the envelope, and when the plum blossom paper with fallen petals appeared in front of Yuan Yanyan, she couldn't help but exclaimed "Wow", and immediately reached out to take it, carefully stroking the petals on it.
"It's so beautiful." He sighed again, "How can I bear to write this."
"After you see the next one, you will definitely be willing to give it up." Xu Jiang took out another piece of paper and handed it to her.
Yuan Yanyan opened the paper and was first amazed by the handwriting. Then she read the poem and exclaimed in surprise, "It's a plum blossom poem."
Xu Jiang smiled and asked, "Do you like these two gifts?"
Yuan Yanyan nodded quickly, "I like it! I like it very much. Thank you, Sister Xu."
"As long as you like it."
Yuan Yanyan flipped through the plum blossom paper with great interest, then asked, "Sister, who copied this poem? The handwriting is so beautiful, and it matches the plum blossoms so well."
"My sister copied it. Her name is Lin Hongchu."
"Lin Hongchu, Hongchu...this name is nice. The characters are nice, and the name is nice. She is just like a character in the story. I really want to meet her." Yuan Yanyan looked longingly.
Xu Jiang thought that since the two were of similar age and both were likable, they might get along well, so she said, "I'll introduce you to each other someday if there's a chance."
"Okay, it's a deal." Yuan Yanyan asked Madam Yuan to put the plum blossom paper away, while she held the paper album tightly and began to read it with fascination.
Madam Yuan tucked in her fur blanket and then said to Xu Jiang, "This little girl is spoiled and ignorant. Madam Xu, please don't blame her."
"Madam, you're joking. Yanyan is innocent and straightforward, and she's very likable." Yuan Yanyan has a 'silly' look about her, which makes people love her.
"I'm so grateful that you're thinking of her, thinking of her, and sending all these things for her. No wonder Master Lian always praises you for your thoughtfulness and your loyalty to friends. He's absolutely right."
"They say birds of a feather flock together. If Madam thinks I'm good, then we're all good, and that's why we're together."
Seeing her modesty, Madam Yuan liked her even more, so she had a table set and took Xu Jiang to have tea and chat. After two cups of tea, she found Yuan Yanyan asleep with the plum blossom paper in her arms. Xu Jiang couldn't bear to keep her any longer, so she stood up and said goodbye to Madam Yuan in a gentle voice.
Madam Yuan walked her out the door and said softly, "When Yanyan gets better, I'll invite you to come over for a chat."
Xu Jiang smiled and replied, "Okay."
Madam Yuan called the two little maids and asked them to escort Xu Jiang out properly. Xu Jiang said goodbye to Madam Yuan and then followed the two little maids out of the yard.
"Goodbye, Madam Xu."
"Let's go back."
Xu Jiang waved goodbye to the two maids and left with the donkey.
