Chapter 74 Seventy-four Cuts

After Lin Hongchu returned home to tend to her mother, Xu Jiang had no plans to hire anyone else. The girl had a bad temper, and she was afraid she'd get angry. Besides, the days until Yuanzheng were numbered, so there was no need to hire anyone. Business was slow, and she could handle it all on her own.

If you really want to invite someone, wait until after the New Year and look for one slowly, there is no need to rush.

But without the little girl's chattering, the shop inevitably felt deserted, and for a moment I didn't know where to start.

She was leaning against the door and was hysterical. It took her a while to come back to her senses. She found the plum blossom paper copied by Lin Hongchu and wanted to make a paper pattern.

A paper album is a book of poetry notes bound in the form of a folded scripture, which is commonly known as a folded book. Its binding method is simpler than that of a butterfly binding book.

First, cut the paper into a long scroll, mark the distance with a ruler, fold it one side right and one side wrong, and finally bind it with hard paper at the beginning and end. After binding, cut and mount the poem paper, and a set of paper patterns is completed.

Xu Jiang drew a red plum blossom on each of the hard paper at the beginning and end of the paper album, titled it "Plum Blossom Poetry Album", and then stopped working.

She flipped through the paper sheet several times and felt generally satisfied. She thought she could do better with the details once she became more proficient in it.

She drank a sip of cold tea and was just taking a breath when Yue Nu jumped onto the table and started playing with the paper and pen. Xu Jiang was afraid that it would damage the paper, so she picked it up in her arms and held it down, straightening it back and forth several times.

"You've grown up too." When I wanted to pick it up, it was only the size of a palm, but now it is seven or eight inches long.

Time really flies like an arrow and cannot be turned back.

She had been in the capital for four months without realizing it. In the past, when she was traveling, she only felt that four months was very long, but now it seemed like a flash of light, passing in a flash.

Looking back on these four months, she met some people, said goodbye to some people, and reunited with some people.

These people were like seeds, sprouting and growing branches, building a comfortable and warm house to settle her down when she was wandering.

She didn't want to leave anymore.

Yue Nu squinted and grumbled under her hands. Xu Jiang touched its shiny and slippery leather and couldn't help but sneer, wondering when she had become so sentimental.

Xu Jiang put Yue Nu down, patted her face, and stood up to clean the table. She would later send the plum blossom paper and calligraphy to Yuan Zuzhi's house as a return gift to Yuan Yanyan.

It's a good opportunity to go see Mrs. Lin, and when asked, she said it was on her way.

In the pot simmered a bowl of ginseng chicken soup, which she had cooked earlier in the morning. It was cooked to perfection. She packed the soup into a lunch box and took it with her. Then, she left a note for Lou Yunchun, locked the door, hung up the sign, and led the donkey to Nanshan Academy.

As soon as she arrived at the school, Xu Jiang smelled the odor of medicine. She tied up the donkey, tiptoed across the front yard and walked inside.

Lin Hongchu was making medicine and was a little surprised to see her coming.

"Why is my sister here?"

Xu Jiang leaned over to open the medicine jar and took a look, then said with a smile, "I went to Mr. Yuan's house to deliver something, and came to see my aunt on the way."

Lin Hongchu saw the food box in her hand and asked, "What's in the food box?"

"Chicken soup." Xu Jiang carried the lunch box into the kitchen, took out a clay pot, poured out the chicken soup, and placed it on the stove to warm it. Seeing Lin Hongchu follow in, he asked, "Auntie, how's your appetite these days?"

Lin Hongchu sighed, "Not very good. I only have half a bowl of soup for each meal, and then I can't eat anymore."

"You still have to eat. Food nourishes you. How can you get better if you don't eat?"

"Doctor Chen said the same thing, but my mother always vomits after eating too much. Seeing how pitiful she is, I can't bear to force her to eat."

"Then eat smaller meals more often. You should always try to consume some." Xu Jiang warmed the chicken soup and said to Lin Hongchu, "This chicken soup is stewed with wild ginseng. I made it light. This pot should be enough for Aunt to have several meals. I'll make some other soup and send it to her tomorrow."

Lin Hongchu held her hand, her eyes reddened, "Didn't you say you were on the way?"

Xu Jiang touched her face and said, "It's convenient every day." Then she said, "I'll go see my aunt first."

After saying that, he went to Mrs. Lin's room.

Lin Hongchu stared at the soup in the pot and couldn't help wiping away tears.

"Aunt."

Mrs. Lin was sewing shoes when she saw Xu Jiang peeking out of the door and calling her. A smile spread across her face and she quickly extended her hand to her, "Why are you here today?"

Xu Jiang held her hand and sat on the edge of the bed. "I went to Mr. Yuan's house to deliver something, so I came to see you."

"Thank you for your hard work."

"That's all right. I was just thinking about you." As he spoke, he picked up the shoes in front of her and looked at them. The size and style seemed to be made for Lin Hongchu. He also saw the fine stitching and the tight seams. He smiled and said, "Aunt has a very skillful hand."

"It seems good now. When I made shoes for you when you were your age, neither you nor your father could wear them out."

Xu Jiang chuckled, then picked up the needle and compared it with it, saying dejectedly, "Oh, I can't bring myself to do it. I'm afraid of ruining these shoes."

"Come, I'll teach you." Mrs. Lin took her hand, taught her a few stitches, and praised her, "Look, isn't it sewn very well?"

Xu Jiang frowned, "That's yours. If I were to do it myself, I'd probably sew a centipede out of it."

Mrs. Lin was so amused that she couldn't stop laughing.

At this time, Lin Hongchu came in with a bowl. Mrs. Lin asked in surprise, "Is it time to take the medicine?"

"No, the medicine hasn't finished yet. This is the chicken soup my sister sent me. It smells so good, so I wanted to give it to Mom to try first."

Madam Lin patted Xu Jiang's hand and sighed, "I'm sorry to trouble you."

Xu Jiang said angrily, "What are you talking about? Auntie, you're treating me like an outsider."

Madam Lin pinched her face and said with a smile, "Of course not. I love you enough. I just wish you were my daughter who was born in my belly. That would be wonderful."

Lin Hongchu said sourly, "I was saying that once my sister came, mother forgot about me."
