Chapter 95

Mu Cong also looked at the young man in front of him and sighed in his heart.

In the past two years, he watched helplessly as this once ambitious scholar was blinded by power and wealth, and fell deeper and deeper into depravity.

As his teacher, I feel heartbroken and sad to see him go astray and be unable to do anything to help him.

"Are you really determined to do that?"

Zhao Xiu was stunned for a moment, then said, "Teacher, once the arrow is shot, there is no turning back. Since we have agreed to this matter, we cannot back out, otherwise, both of us will be in trouble."

Mu Cong was silent for a moment. "But your future will be completely ruined."

"My future has been ruined long ago." Zhao Xiu's voice suddenly rose, and then with a hint of pain and unwillingness, he said: "Teacher, you know best how I have been through these two years."

Mu Cong was suddenly speechless.

"I've tried countless times to reach the top, but every time success was within reach, they easily kicked me down. Teacher... I'm tired."

Mu Cong also opened his mouth, then closed it weakly.

"I, Zhao Xiu, am not a useless loser who doesn't strive for progress, nor am I an illiterate fool. I am diligent and motivated. I have studied hard for ten years, thousands of days and nights, without a single day of failure. Yet, in the end, I am no match for their careless words."

Zhao Xiu sneered and continued, "Teacher, do you know what the greatest revenge is? It's not breaking their limbs, or ruining their reputation, but making sure they never get what they want."

He regretted offending those people.

Zhao Xiu smiled bitterly, "Teacher, my bones have long been broken and I can't stand up anymore."

Mu Cong also took a breath and felt as if someone had stabbed him in the heart.

Zhao Xiu met his disappointed and heartbroken eyes, and was silent for a long time. Then he said slowly: "Look at the time, Lan Jing and Master's wife should be back. I'll go and see them."

"Wait." Mu Cong stopped him, closed his eyes, and said, "Don't go see Lan Jing again from now on."

Zhao Xiu was startled and turned back suddenly, "Why?"

Mu Cong looked at him and said in a deep voice, "Lan Jing has a simple personality and trusts you very much. You shouldn't take advantage of her."

Zhao Xiu defended himself, "It's just a copybook, how can I use it?"

Mu Cong was also becoming increasingly disappointed with him. "That Madam Xu was her benefactor. You used that letter to curry favor with Zhou Shancai, making her bear the charge of being ungrateful. If she knew about this, how would she cope?"

Zhao Xiu was slightly startled, "As long as I don't tell her..."

Mu Cong also gritted his teeth and said, "Leave a clean person for the Mu family."

Zhao Xiu's face turned pale, and after a while he said, "I understand." Then he left in a hurry.

Mu Cong also took two steps back and sat down dejectedly on a wooden chair. Suddenly, footsteps were heard at the door. He looked up and saw that it was his wife. He straightened his clothes and forced a smile, "You're back?"

Madam Mu walked up to him and handed him the paper.

Mu Cong was also stunned and said with a wry smile, "Did you just hear it?"

Madam Mu, who had just heard this outside the door, was confused. "What on earth is going on? Why is it related to this paper music?"

Mu Cong also said, "Zhao Xiu sold this paper to Zhou Shancai to make a copy."

"What?" Madam Mu was startled, then asked, "When did you know?"

"I just happened to meet Zhou Shancai a couple of days ago and heard him talk about it." Recalling Zhou Shancai's sarcasm, Mu Cong felt more embarrassed than if he had been slapped twice in the street.

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Mrs. Mu felt ashamed and angry. How could she have the nerve to come to his house today?

Mu Cong also said: "Even if you know, you still can't do anything. It's better not to know."

Did Xu Jiang know about this? If so, what did she think of her? If not, should she tell her? Madam Mu felt as if her heart was being fried in oil, and her face was about to be scraped off.

Finally, staring at the two volumes of calligraphy, he murmured, "She also gave two maids cakes today."

Mu Cong also held two pieces of paper music, but felt that they were hot.

Compared to the couple's torment, Xu Jiang was very calm.

After sending out those paper sheets, she received many return gifts in the past two days, with messages attached, all praising her ingenuity and thanking her for her generous gifts.

Looks like the response is good.

She had done her best in this regard, and would leave it to fate and not worry about it anymore.

Just like what the paper mill owner said, as long as you do business, you are bound to encounter such dirty things, and there will be more troubles in the future. Instead of dwelling on them, it is better to move forward and look at things more positively.

Besides, she had a lot on her plate. Liang Mo had almost finished printing the second edition and was about to start binding it. If she spent all day thinking about these idle things and delayed her work, wouldn't that be more trouble than good?

She clapped her hands, breathed a sigh of relief, and her mind suddenly became clear. Then she continued cutting paper.

I was busy until the evening. After seeing Liang Mo off, a figure came in from the street corner. It was Lou Yunchun, who I hadn't seen for a few days.

The two looked at each other, and their longing for each other suddenly arose, like the wind, like dew, like lightning, like thunder.

Lou Yunchun galloped over, jumped off his horse, and stared at her for a long moment before calming his breath and leading the horse to the backyard. Xu Jiang patted her chest and turned to put the bookshelf in front of the door into the shop.

The east wind is blowing gently, the sky is filled with fragrant mist, and the stars are hidden behind the clouds, emitting a faint light.

Under the eaves, Xu Jiang was trapped in an embrace, her neck aching. She patted Lou Yunchun's shoulder, but he bit her lightly, not hard, and only let go after a long while.

Both of them were breathing a little disordered, and it took a while for them to calm down. They walked towards the kitchen hand in hand.

Coming to the kitchen, Lou Yunchun asked, "What do you want to eat?"

Xu Jiang stared at his swollen lips and said expressionlessly, "Wild vegetable porridge, it will reduce internal heat."
