Chapter 151 One Hundred and Fifty-one Cuts

Xu Jiang looked at Xu Dang who was kneeling on the ground and nodded, "That's right, I was born and raised as a bastard. Fortunately, I met my master and was able to save my life."

Upon hearing this, Xu Twelve looked at Xu Jiang in surprise.

"Master fed me, taught me the fundamentals of life, and showed me the love of a mother and child. I will always remember his kindness in raising me, but what does this have to do with Xu Yan? If it weren't for Master, I would have rotted in the fields, and he wouldn't have even glanced at me."

Xu Jiang grabbed Xu Dang by the collar, staring intently into his cloudy eyes, and demanded, "The Xu family relied on my master's parents to enjoy prosperity and wealth, but not only are you ungrateful, you even treated my master harshly after they passed away. Not only did you seize his property, but you even went so far as to have him killed in order to curry favor with the powerful. Who is the ungrateful one?"

What happened to Xu Yuan and her is an indelible scar on Xu Jiang's body. Over the years, she has become accustomed to carrying it and has become numb to it. However, the moment she sees the Xu family, the pain breaks her bones and soul again.

Xu Dang argued, "He was ignorant. If he hadn't offended the officials in the capital and failed the imperial examination, how could our Xu family have fallen into this state? If he hadn't rejected the county magistrate's kindness, why would father have accidentally injured him in his desperation? He is a man of high moral character and integrity, but he can't just ignore our lives."

Xu Jiang stared at him, as if she could see through his skin a boneless soft worm that only knew how to parasitize.

It was this thing that devoured her master and destroyed her family.

How ridiculous.

"Why should I waste my time talking to you?" She laughed at herself, a layer of frost forming in her eyes. Then she said to the two guards, "Tie him up and send him to the government office."

Upon seeing this, Xu Dang quickly pleaded for mercy, but seeing that Xu Jiang was hard-hearted and unmoved, he began to slander and curse again.

The two security guards simply cut off one of his smelly shoes and stuffed it into his mouth. The stench made him roll his eyes, and only then did he behave himself.

Xu Twelve pleaded with Xu Jiang, "Miss, I can bear witness to expose their conspiracy and redress the master's injustice. I only ask that you protect me. From now on, I will follow you and be your slave."

Xu Jiang winked at the guard, who then pulled off Xu Dang's other shoe and stuffed it into Xu Twelve's mouth.

"If you have anything to say, save it for the court." After saying this, Xu Jiang bowed to the crowd and said, "I'm sorry to have made a fool of myself. I still need you to be witnesses. If anyone is willing to go to my government office, I will thank you one day."

Liang Mo immediately said, "I'll go with the boss."

Naturally, Shopkeeper Wang was also involved in this matter. "I'll go too."

"I'm going too!"

"It's really infuriating. I want to go too!"

Xu Jiang bowed again, "Thank you very much."

Liang Mo locked the door, and a group of people escorted the two of them to the government office.

Upon arriving at the government office, Xu Jiang informed the guards that Feng Miao was hiding in Qingmen, and the guards quickly led a team to capture him. Later, Xu Jiang presented a confession, and with the testimony of neighbors, Xu Twelve confessed their plot to blackmail Xu Jiang and seize her shop and property.

Once he confessed, Xu Dang saw that he could no longer hide the truth, so he had no choice but to admit defeat and acknowledge their plan.

Because of the failed extortion, the punishment they received was not severe. They were each sentenced to 100 lashes, sentenced to one year in prison, and then expelled from the capital.

Xu Twelve was punished with ink tattooing on his head because he betrayed his master and judged his master.

As for Xu Si, because he planned a blackmail case and had secret dealings with a fugitive, the county magistrate went to sea to capture him and put him on the same wanted list as Feng Miao.

After the chief clerk described Xu Si's appearance according to Xu Twelve's confession, Manager Wang exclaimed in surprise, "It's actually him!" He then quickly informed the county magistrate about his encounter with Xu Si at the alley entrance and asked him to track down and hunt him down.

Seeing Xu Dang and Xu Twelve being apprehended, Xu Si hurriedly left Yonghefang and boarded an oxcart carrying charcoal out of the city, heading all the way to Qingmenli. He even pretended to fall off the cart, viciously extorted five hundred coins from the charcoal driver, and sneaked into the Qingmenli post station to look for Feng Miao.

But before he even stepped into the pavilion, he saw a group of police officers on horseback rushing towards him with whips waving. Because he had been hiding from gambling debts for many years, Xu Si was very keen on pursuit. He had a hunch that they were here to arrest Feng Miao, and if he showed up, he might be arrested as well.

Got to hide first.

After Xu Si went around to Tingyi, he wanted to leave through a small road, but he ran into Feng Miao who was fleeing after hearing the news.

"It was you who brought the officials here?"

"If it were me, would I still need to hide?" Xu Si rolled his eyes. "Run quickly. If I'm caught, at most I'll have to spend a few meals in jail, but if you're caught, you'll lose your head."

The two men fled along a small path to a bamboo forest, where they escaped from the pursuit.

"Where is this?"

"After passing through this bamboo forest, we will reach Quchili. There is a Green Bird Garden. I know the owner of the garden. We can seek refuge with him."

Xu Si spitted, "Why are you pretending to be rich? Who would take in a wanted criminal?"

There was no one else here, and Feng Miao no longer pretended to be gentle as he did in front of others. He said coldly, "It's up to you whether you go or not." After that, he went deep into the bamboo forest.

Xu Si hesitated for a moment and quickly followed.

Now he was alone and unfamiliar with the capital, so he might as well go and take a look. After all, he only had this one life.

By the time they reached Quchi, it was already dark. Feng Miao led Xu Si to Qingque Garden, but they were stopped by the gatekeeper and refused entry. After much persuasion, he finally persuaded him to pass on a message requesting admission.

It was pitch black outside, but inside the garden there was light every ten steps.

Xu Si looked at the magnificent garden, feeling both envious and jealous. It was better to be rich, as only with money could one live in such a big garden.

The two followed the servant to an empty courtyard. When they reached the gate, the servant asked them to wait while he went in to report. After a while, he came out and led the two in through a side door.
