Chapter 209

The carriage stopped in front of the Wan family, and Shan Bo went to see them first.

The doorman entered the courtyard to announce the arrival, and about a quarter of an hour later, Wan Sheng came out, accompanied by a young man and two servants.

Wan Sheng pointed at the young man and introduced him to Shan Bo, "This is my son, Wan Qingmiao."

Wan Qingmiao greeted him and said, "Greetings, old sir."

Shan Bo returned his greeting and praised him, "Master Wan is truly a man of great talent."

Wan Sheng smiled and said, "Looks like his mother."

Shan Bo smiled and nodded, then turned around and walked back to the carriage with a wooden face. He said to the people in the carriage, "Young lady, please get off."

Liu Mei lifted the carriage curtain and got out first, then reached out to take Xu Jiang out.

After leaving the house, she told Xu Jiang to be well prepared along the way. Xu Jiang was afraid of her nagging, so she agreed to everything she said.

When the Wan family father and son saw the two people getting out of the car, they were both stunned.

Wan Sheng stared at Xu Jiang and couldn't help feeling a little dazed, as if he was back to the day when he first met Xizhi in Yongsui.

When he was negotiating a business deal in Yongsui, he was ridiculed and bullied because of his disability, and it was Xizhi who rescued him.

From then on, he could not forget Xizhi. Later, he deliberately interacted with the Xi family in order to get closer to her.

Because of this, he learned that Xi Zhi and Xu Yuan had been engaged since childhood, and he also knew that the Xi family had hooked up with a local wealthy businessman and wanted to break off the engagement with the Xu family.

During that period, the two people's resistance, elopement and forced separation made him witness a relationship that was as hot as the sun, but ultimately burned everything to ashes.

After learning that she was brought back to the Xi family, he was both heartbroken and humbled by joy. He brought gifts and went to visit them, but the Xi family closed the door and refused to see anyone.

It was not until he bribed the servants of the Xi family and learned that she was pregnant with a girl that he understood why the Xi family did this.

He was heartbroken and jealous, but he could do nothing. He thought that if they had a child, the Xi family would support them and he would be happy for her. But he didn't expect that the Xi family would use the child as a threat to force her to submit and marry the rich businessman.

The rich businessman's reputation was ruined because she eloped with someone, so he no longer wanted her to be his wife and only gave her the status of a concubine.

The Xi family actually agreed.

He deliberately informed the rich businessman of the news that Xizhi had given birth to a daughter, and the rich businessman indeed broke off relations with the Xi family.

He knew that this was his only chance, so he bought four manors in Yongsui and used them as betrothal gifts to ask the Xi family to marry her to him.

Although the Xi family looked down on him, they agreed for the sake of money. But later, they felt ashamed and did not prepare a dowry or a banquet for guests. They only provided a sedan chair and let him take her away.

He wanted to keep her away from all the troubles, so he cut off all news about Yongsui and severed all contacts with the Xi and Xu families, just wanting her to stay by his side.

But she was like a pearl covered in dust, losing her brilliance day by day. Finally, after learning of Xu Yuan's death, she completely shattered, leaving only a chaotic shell.

Even if it was just a body, as long as it could stay by his side, he would be satisfied.

But when he woke up in the middle of the night and saw that bright and dazzling woman, his heart would always ache. The pain was more unbearable than the pain of losing his arm in his childhood.

The Xu Jiang in front of him was the same woman in his memory, which made him surprised, confused, and frightened. All kinds of emotions filled his heart and made him unable to laugh anymore.

Xu Jiang is very similar to Xi Zhi and Xu Yuan. She has the appearance of the former and the spirit of the latter.

The moment Wan Qingmiao saw Xu Jiang, his eyes lit up, and for some reason, he felt a sense of closeness. When she approached, he couldn't help but go forward and bow to her.

"My name is Wan Qingmiao, and I respectfully welcome you, my lady."

Hearing him introduce himself, Xu Jiang was stunned, and the polite smile on her face faded a lot. She returned the greeting, "Xu Jiang greets Mr. Wan." Then she said to Wan Sheng, "Greetings to Master Wan."

Wansheng nodded slightly.

The two looked at each other, both with complicated expressions.

Wan Qingmiao wanted to say a few more words to Xu Jiang, but was blocked by Liu Mei, so he had to stand back next to Wan Sheng.

The Wan family servants led the guards to park the carriage, while the Wan family father and son led Xu Jiang and others into the house.

Because Shan Bo had revealed the truth yesterday, Wan Sheng knew that he came from an official family in Beijing, so he opened the main gate to welcome him.

Xu Jiang looked up.

Although the Wan family was a wealthy family, they were not an official family. The style of their entrance door was the Ruyi door commonly used by ordinary people, but it was more luxurious than that of ordinary people's homes.

A stone door was built between the front eaves columns, and a wooden door was opened inside the stone door. The eaves columns were connected to the walls on both sides, and there was a two-story archway on top.

There are carvings on the stone gate and the archway, mostly in the style of gods, auspicious patterns, pavilions and towers, which are exquisite, complex, bright and gorgeous.

The words "Ruyi" are engraved on the door pins facing you, which means good luck and good fortune.

The most striking feature is the plaque above the door, inscribed with the words "Wealth, Honor, and Peace." The handwriting is resilient, yet lacks the grandeur often found on plaques, revealing instead a touch of elegance.

Xu Jiang stared at it for a moment and then had an idea in his mind.

"Madam Xu, please come in." Wan Sheng extended his hand to invite her.

Xu Jiang bowed slightly, then stepped into the Wan family's gate, followed closely by Shan Bo and Liu Mei.

After entering the door, several people couldn't help but look around. Xu Jiang felt that the courtyard was luxurious but not tacky.

As far as the eye can see, stones are piled up to form mountains, and the ground is dug to form ponds. Plum, orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum, pine, cypress, camphor, and fir are planted along the mountains and along the water, forming a scene in itself.

Except for the plaque of wealth at the entrance, this garden does not have the slightest commercial atmosphere. It is more like a garden built by scholars, with exquisite details in every detail.

After entering the gate, there is a pavilion gate not far away. There are three banquet halls on the left and right of the pavilion gate. The four words "Ji Fu Ning Rui" are written on the door. The handwriting is the same as that on the front door.

"This is the calligraphy my mother gave me." Wan Qingmiao had walked over to Xu Jiang and introduced her, "Not only this plaque, but all the plaques in our house were written by her. This garden was also built by my father to suit her preferences."
