Mrs. Lou held one of them in each hand, smiling through her tears, and said with relief on her face: "Okay, it's good that you're back."
Liu Mei stepped forward and bowed weepingly, "This servant pays respects to the Madam."
Mrs. Lou quickly helped her up and wiped her tears.
Shan Bo also stepped forward to greet her, "This old servant pays his respects to the Madam."
"Butler Shan, please get up too." Madam Lou said to Butler Shan and the guards, "You've worked hard on this trip. Once you've settled your belongings, have the kitchen prepare a few tables for everyone to enjoy."
"Yes, ma'am." Shan Bo returned to the house and became the butler who was in charge of all the household affairs.
He immediately called two servants to go to the kitchen to pass on the message, asking them to prepare some light and healthy yet solemn dishes, with one host and three meals, for a total of four tables.
As soon as he came back, his subordinates immediately felt more confident and went about their work efficiently when given the instructions.
Lou Yunchun looked at the end of the team. Xu Jiang hurried to invite Wu Zhi to meet Madam Lou.
Lou Yunchun said to Madam Lou, "Mother, this is Doctor Wu. It's thanks to her care that A Jiang and I will return safely."
Wu Zhi stepped forward, bowed, and said in a neither humble nor arrogant manner, "Greetings, Madam Lou."
Seeing a stranger, Mrs. Lou became a little reserved again, "Hello, Doctor Wu."
Liu Mei smiled and said, "Madam, don't be nervous. Madam Wu is very nice." Then she whispered in her ear, "She's just tough on the outside but soft on the inside."
Madam Lou relaxed upon hearing this and said to Wu Zhi, "Doctor Wu, you have come from afar, so please stay at your home first and let us show our hospitality."
"Thank you for bothering me." Wu Zhi did not refuse. She had just arrived and was not familiar with the capital. Since she was taken in by the Lou family, she didn't have to look for an inn. She could find a good place to rent and then move out.
Madam Lou said to Xu Jiang and Wu Zhi, "A Jiang lives alone in the courtyard, and many rooms are empty. She always feels lonely. Now that Doctor Wu is here, why don't you live together? You sisters will have good company."
Xu Jiang was delighted to see that Madam Lou was much more relaxed when meeting strangers than before. When she heard that she wanted Wu Zhi to live with her, she thought it was exactly what she wanted, so she smiled and nodded in agreement.
The guest should follow the host's wishes, and Wu Zhi had no objection. Besides, she only knew Xu Jiang and a few others now, so she would feel comfortable living with her. "I'll leave it to Madam to arrange."
After the greetings, Madam Lou ordered the maids to help with the luggage, then she took Xu Jiang and Wu Zhi into the house, and took Wu Zhi to see the yard and choose a room. Lou Yunchun then went back to her room to wash and change clothes.
After everyone was settled, Lou Jing finally came back. When he heard that the two little ones had returned home, he immediately became energetic and rushed to question them... ahem, to show concern and comfort.
Because there were outside guests, the chairman sat in the side hall of the outer garden. Butler Shan led the servants and guards to eat in the pavilion outside the veranda, while Liu Mei and the maids and old women sat under the eaves outside the side hall. This way they would not disturb others and it was convenient for them to wait for orders.
Xu Jiang, Liu Mei, Yin Yin and others were filtering wine under the eaves. Madam Lou was caught by Wu Zhi and her pulse was taken in the hall.
From the first time Wu Zhi saw Mrs. Lou, he could tell that she had a weakness, but he didn't dare to ask because he was not familiar with her. But now that he was familiar with her, he couldn't help but want to diagnose her and ask some questions.
In the eyes of ordinary doctors, women's diseases are the most difficult to diagnose and treat, not because their symptoms are complicated, but because of the so-called barriers between men and women. Some women in seclusion find it difficult to talk about some private symptoms, which leads to doctors often misdiagnosing and being unable to prescribe the right medicine.
When women are doctors, they don't have such concerns. When facing a female doctor, they can frankly tell her some symptoms that are inconvenient to tell male doctors.
Apart from Wu Zhi, there were female doctors in Dasheng, but they were also confined to the backyard. The skills they learned and the questions they asked were restricted. They could not have the same channels to learn as men, could not read more classics, and could not come into contact with more patients. What they learned, saw, and treated were all in this dark and deep backyard.
But she was different. All the members of the Wu family were dead. The old man had taken in three evil disciples, all of whom were either stealing his prescriptions, reselling his herbs, or plotting to take his fortune. He was so enraged that he nearly died, and ultimately had to pass on all his skills and ancestral texts to her, just to ensure that the Wu family's medical skills would not be lost after his death, and that he would have someone to attend his funeral and mourn him.
After the old man died, no one cared about her, and no one could take care of her anymore. She was left to roam freely in the world, and she wanted to carve out a path that belonged to her and to female doctors.
After examining Madam Lou, Wu Zhi understood the root of her problem. Madam Lou was born with inherent deficiencies, and her family suffered a major upheaval at a young age, leaving her physically and mentally damaged. Furthermore, the loss of her health after marriage and childbirth left her with a weakened constitution. This was a sign of a short life, but due to her careful care, she has been able to prolong her life to this day. However, her chronic illness persists, leaving her like a leaky ship, only able to survive for a short time.
Mrs. Lou is still in her prime now and can hold on for a while. But in a few years, when she is old and her illnesses relapse, her body will be like a collapsing mountain or a torrent of water. Even an ordinary minor illness will crush her and there will be no way to save her.
Seeing Wu Zhi's gloomy expression, Madam Lou sighed slightly, "I know my body well. I am blessed by God to be where I am today. Doctor Wu doesn't have to bear the responsibility." Lou Jing would invite folk doctors and palace physicians to diagnose and treat patients every year, and the result was nothing more than two words.
Cherish blessings.
"Madam is a blessed person, and she will live as long as a tall pine tree." Although Madam Lou's illness is difficult, it is not incurable. It just takes more time and energy than ordinary difficult diseases.
Mrs. Lou's eyes lit up, "What does Doctor Wu mean? My illness..."
"I can cure it." Wu Zhi nodded, then smiled at her, "Madam, if I stay for two or three years, you won't kick me out, right?"
"No..." Mrs. Lou shook her head, then held her hand tightly. In her excitement, the words she wanted to say were stuck in her throat and she couldn't say them.
