Chapter 134 - 122: Checking In (Second Update)

After Su Rong was injured, she was always treated in the Xie Residence. The wife, always preferring to avoid making a fuss, concealed Su Rong’s injury.

The young ladies in the Su Residence only knew that Su Rong was staying in the Xie Residence. They thought that she was avoiding learning manners after Zhou Gu left, something straight out of Su Rong’s playbook. Hence, no one knew she was injured again.

Upon hearing the news, everyone was taken aback. The eldest daughter asked with concern, "Mother, was my seventh sister severely injured this time? Who did she fight with?"

"She was seriously injured and had to stay in bed for three full days. She was fighting someone unknown and it took her seven days to get out of bed to get some sun," the wife walked in with her usual demeanor and warned them, "Make sure you all don’t take after her."

"Why didn’t mother tell us earlier? We could have paid a visit to her." said the second daughter with a sigh. "Who was that shameless person she fought with? Does father know? He must give them a severe lesson."

The wife was relieved. "They already got a lesson."

Su Rong returned the favor to the person who planned to kill her. She even got rid of the bodies by burying them in the wild to decompose and fertilize the forest.

"Everyone must be tired from the journey, go get some rest!" ordered the wife, "The master has already arranged for each of you to have a residence. The Housekeeper will lead each of you to your rooms. Given that we traveled a whole day, we won’t have dinner together. I will ask the kitchen to deliver food to each of you to your rooms, you can have it in your own rooms!"

The young ladies nodded in agreement.

The wife, being worried about Su Rong, didn’t even return to her Main Courtyard. Instead, she followed the carriage to the residence allocated for Su Rong.

Just as Su Xu favored Su Rong, the wife did the same. As a result, the residence assigned to Su Rong was the best in the entire Inspector’s Residence. It was closest to the Main Courtyard, formerly occupied by Jiang Yunying, the legitimate daughter of the previous Inspector of Jiangzhou.

Su Xu had the name of Yunying Pavilion changed to Nuanxiang Pavilion and ordered the manager to clean and cleanse the entire residence before assuming his new post in Jiangzhou, in order to get rid of any bad luck.

For other residences including the one where he and his wife lived, he just left it as it was when he came to Jiangzhou, being too busy to deal with all these due to a pile of affairs.

The carriage was brought up to the door of the residence before it stopped. Su Rong got off and saw that the wife had followed her in. She smiled, "Mother, are you going to stay tonight with me?"

"That sounds good." said the wife, who just came to see how things were, but felt that it was a good idea on hearing Su Rong’s suggestion.

"No," Su Rong immediately retracted her invitation, "On the first day in the new house, my father should stay with you. No one else can take that place. If you don’t go back, won’t my father be all alone?"

After all, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to stay in any of the rooms with his concubines today.

The wife said with a laugh, "Would someone steal him from you? Don’t be embarrassed."

Su Rong stuck out her tongue and took her mother’s arm when she came close, saying with joy, "Mother, you and father are really good to me. Jiang Yunying probably wouldn’t even dream of it, that one day, her house would become mine."

The wife scolded her with a chuckle, "Why mention the dead, what a bad luck! Your father asked the priest to perform a ceremony in your residence, you can stay there without worry now." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Su Rong nodded, "Alright!"

She wasn’t afraid of Jiang Yunying when she was alive, and she certainly didn’t fear her now that she’s dead. If she had to choose, her new residence would be the last place needing a cleansing ceremony - she could even fend off the ghosts. Others probably needed that more.

The wife went into the house, checked inside and out, and seemed satisfied, "Okay, it’s nice. Rest now, I’m leaving.""

On reaching the door, she turned back and asked the wet nurse, "Did she miss her medication at noon due to the rush today? Give her an extra bowl this evening."

Su Rong: "..."

The wet nurse chuckled and reassured her, "Old servant will make sure Seventh Miss takes her medicine. Madame, rest assured."

The wife was reassured, feeling that ever since the wet nurse started to attend to Su Rong, she had felt much less worried. Unlike Yuewan, who was useless and unable to control Su Rong.

After the wife left, Yuewan came to the wet nurse, asking eagerly, "Nurse, can the medication dosage be increased?"

The wet nurse smiled, "It can be increased a little, but not too much. The wife was just joking."

Yuewan patted her forehead, "Ah, ever since the wife became the Inspector’s wife, she has become so distant."

While lying in the recliner, Su Rong chimed in, "If my father continues to rise in rank and win a decree from the emperor for mother......upon thinking further, she shook her head, "Forget it, my father is getting old, there’s no need for that. Jiangzhou is already a good place. My mother’s mandate can be pursued by my eldest brother!"

The wet nurse nodded, "Young Master does have the ability, he might really get it in the future."

While the three of them were laughing and chatting, the kitchen staff came with food. Su Rong had slept through lunch, skipping a meal, so her stomach was growling. The two pieces of dim sum were not sufficient.

The cooks placed the meal on the table and the aromatic smell filled the room. Su Rong took a whiff and said, "Finally, not medicated meals anymore."

The wet nurse laughed, "The doctor said you are recovering well, normal meals can be resumed. This old servant informed Madame in advance."

Su Rong heaped praise on her, "Nanny is the best!"

Just as she finished speaking, a person walked in. It was Fen Ling. With his eyes on the table, he chuckled and said, "Miss, your meal was specially prepared by the main kitchen. Please honor me by sharing the meal with you."

Su Rong didn’t look pleased, "Why didn’t you come around when I was having medicated meals?"

Fen Ling coughed awkwardly, "Well, those are medicated meals right? This underling did not get injured, so it’s not right to take yours."

Su Rong really wanted to argue, "I haven’t seen such delicious food for days, and now you want to share it with me?"

Fen Ling tried to please her, "There is plenty, and you can’t finish it alone. The nanny is firm with rules and doesn’t eat with you. Yuewan got caught by nanny and is learning manners so that she doesn’t become undisciplined while following you. I’m the only one left. As a spy, I don’t need to learn manners. It is boring for you to eat alone. Let this servant accompany you."

Su Rong snorted, "Then eat less."

"Okay." Fen Ling immediately sat down.

The wet nurse chuckled, then led the miserable-looking Yuewan away.

Once the two of them stepped out of the room, Yuewan could be heard grumbling, "Nanny, I used to eat what the Miss eats, she was never harsh on me."

"Our dinner is exactly the same as Miss’s. Madame ordered an extra portion to be made in the small kitchen. Apart from not being able to eat together, there’s no other inconvenience." The wet nurse smiled, "It was only different when it was medicated meals."

Yuewan cheered up at her words, "Then let’s go, hurry back to the room."
