Su Rong didn’t expect that the Rui’an King would be so formidable that he dug out Concubine Ning Yao, the wife of the Crown Prince, in such a short time. She assumed it would take at least half a month.
However, this indicated that the person Xie Lin pried out from Monk Wang Su on the day he left the Duke Residence, who then tried to assassinate him on the street with two cold arrows, was undoubtedly Concubine Ning Yao, the wife of the Crown Prince.
Ning Yao would only resort to killing Xie Lin for fear of exposing her own actions.
But because of this, it provoked the Rui’an King.
Su Rong, with her legs crossed, kicked Fen Ling, who was studying a sword manuscript intently, "Stop looking. Since the manuscript is already in your hands, look at it later. The urgent task now is to catch Ning Ze before he runs away."
"Ning Ze?" Fen Ling looked up, puzzled at Su Rong’s words. From his look, his heart had delved into the sword manuscript, totally forgetting who Ning Ze was.
"The younger brother of the Crown Prince’s wife, the one you dragged around the kitchen of the Crown Prince’s Residence for half a day and ridiculed." Su Rong reminded him.
Fen Ling suddenly realized, "Oh, him!"
He quickly packed away the sword manuscript and put it in his pocket, "No problem, leave it to me."
He left as soon as he finished speaking. When he reached the door, it seemed like he remembered something and walked back. He took out the manuscript and gave it to Su Rong, "Master, could you please keep this for me? I’m afraid I can’t resist pulling it out to read it, and that will distract me from the task at hand." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Su Rong reached out and took it, "Alright, go now!"
Fen Ling immediately went out with his men.
Meanwhile, Yan Huisheng and Su Rong had the same thought. They could not let Ning Ze escape. Ning Yao, aware of her impending doom, commanded her remaining loyal guards to escort Ning Ze out of Capital City during the pass-on of the message. Ning Ze, having his personal guards with him, was shocked and panicked upon receiving Ning Yao’s message. Although he was reluctant to leave his sister, at this point, his reluctance was futile. He did not have time to pack up, and he immediately left the city with his men.
After traveling a hundred miles, they were caught up by two groups of men. One was dispatched by the Eastern Palace and the other by Fen Ling.
There were a lot of men guarding Ning Ze, but the men from the Eastern Palace and those led by Fen Ling were much tougher. In the ensuing fight, all of Ning Ze’s men were killed and Ning Ze was captured and taken back to Capital City.
Ning Ze never thought he couldn’t escape and he never thought his sister would be exposed so quickly, putting his life at risk. He wanted to say something with his face pale as a sheet, but facing the men from the Eastern Palace and Fen Ling’s squad, he couldn’t speak a word.
Fen Ling rudely gagged him with a handkerchief, then turned to Yun Ze and said, "Brother, he’s all yours."
Yun Ze bowed, "Thank you."
Fen Ling waved his hand.
The two groups of men swiftly returned to Capital City.
The men of the Rui’an King, who arrived late, pursued them and met the two groups halfway.
Upon seeing them, Yun Ze handed Ning Ze over to Rui’an King’s men without a second word, "The Crown Prince has promised to help the king. Now that the man has been stopped, please convey to the king to show no mercy."
The leader of the group received Ning Ze and nodded, "Don’t worry, Young Master Yun Ze."
The Crown Prince’s four closest guards were well-known in Kyoto. Naturally, the men from the Rui’an King’s Residence recognized Yun Ze.
After the exchange, Yun Ze felt relieved. The three groups returned to Capital City one after another.
Yun Ze went back to the Eastern Palace to report, and Fen Ling, out of curiosity, directly followed the soldiers from the Rui’an King Residence to the palace. Under the pretense of visiting Xie Lin, and knowing his status, the soldiers did not stop him from going in.
Xie Lin was interrogating Ning Yao.
Taking advantage of her pregnancy, Ning Yao refused to confess, insisting that the monk from Buddha Temple had framed her. She was very stubborn.
Just as Xie Lin was figuring out how to break her resistance, he was informed of Fen Ling’s arrival. He turned around and went out to greet him.
When Fen Ling saw Xie Lin, he greeted him with a cheerful bow, "Young Master Xie, I came to join in the fun."
Xie Lin raised an eyebrow, then looped his arm through Fen Ling’s, not hesitating to say: "You came at the right time, I’m trying to get her to talk. Even at this point, she’s being stubborn about her innocence because of the royal heir in her belly. Come and see if you can think of any solutions?"
Fen Ling stated plainly: "I simply came to join in the fun."
Xie Lin wasn’t having it, pulling on Fen Ling’s arm, "Where can such fun be easily found? Since you’re here, you have to help. Don’t forget, the reason we of the Rui’an King Residence got involved, and that I was nearly assassinated, is all because of your sister."
Fen Ling choked up, "Now, hold on a minute."
"Come on, follow me." Xie Lin dragged Fen Ling into the dungeon.
Upon first glance, Fen Ling saw Ning Yao sitting on a chair. Even at this stage, Ning Yao still held her demeanor as the wife of the Crown Prince, with her hand steadily placed on her lower abdomen, completely unperturbed.
Upon seeing Fen Ling following Xie Lin in, Ning Yao arched an eyebrow.
Fen Ling clicked his tongue, circled around the chair Ning Yao was sitting in and then patted her on the shoulder, "Crown Prince’s wife, your brother couldn’t escape. Who do you think is more obstinate, you or your younger brother?"
Ning Yao was about to scream, "Don’t touch me." But the scream died in her throat choked by Fen Ling’s words. Her face changed drastically and she almost blurted out, "That’s impossible!"
As soon as the Rui’an King returned to the capital safely, she had passed on a message ordering Ning Ze to leave Capital City. He had plenty of time and enough guards, how could he have been captured and brought back?
Seeing Ning Yao’s disbelief, Fen Ling turned to Xie Lin and suggested, "Why not let the Crown Prince’s wife see her brother?"
Xie Lin nodded and gestured his approval.
Soon, Ning Ze was pushed into the dungeon. His mouth was gagged with a handkerchief, and he looked extremely haggard. Upon seeing Ning Yao, he tried to say something, but he couldn’t. His face was full of terror.
Ning Yao jumped up to rush towards Ning Ze.
Fen Ling held her back, "Crown Prince’s wife, now that you’ve seen him, what do you think? Have I been lying to you? Though we only had one meal together, I couldn’t mistake him. And being your own flesh and blood, surely you won’t mistake your brother."
Ning Yao went pale. Trembling, she muttered, "How dare you!"
Fen Ling sighed, "Crown Prince’s wife, at this point, who do you think would dare without the Emperor’s order? Of course, I did not come at the Emperor’s command. I came here to see you because, after all, I was a guest in your home. I should at least come to see how you’re doing."
Ning Yao was on the verge of madness, "Shut your mouth!"
The thing she least liked to mention, and most regretted, was inviting the Su siblings to visit the Crown Prince’s Residence. It seemed as though everything went out of control from that day. The Crown Prince’s Residence became a joke among the ministers, the Emperor reproached them, and she herself kept making mistakes.
