Su Rong’s originally pale face flushed slightly. This blush didn’t stop on her face but spread up to the side of her ears, her neck, and even downward toward her collarbone...
Zhou Gu’s breath nearly stopped. He wanted to look away, but his eyes wouldn’t listen. His whole being seemed bound by some emotion.
He held back several times, but couldn’t resist. Seeing Su Rong like this, he lowered his head again.
The previous contact was too brief. He thought he had tasted something but also tasted nothing.
A large shadow descended upon his sight, followed by an irresistible touch on his lips.
Before Su Rong’s heart could calm down, it was stirred up by him again. Her mind blanked for a moment, but an intense sensation struck her brain, causing her to feel dizzy. She could hear her own heartbeat clearly, as well as Zhou Gu’s.
Thump, thump, thump, each beat surpassing the last.
Su Rong could hardly breathe, but Zhou Gu didn’t let go of her. She was unable to speak and could only nip at him lightly.
Zhou Gu immediately stiffened, slowly let go of her, and looked down at her.
With her eyes shut, she didn’t dare to look at him. Her voice trembled, "Zhou Gu, is this your way of taking care of people?"
Zhou Gu had a sudden revelation - he had done something outrageous again, leaving him speechless for a moment.
Su Rong waited for his response. Seeing him frozen with regret, she could not describe his expression. It seemed regretful and guilt-ridden, but there was also some lingering satisfaction.
Su Rong closed her eyes again. "Have I let the wolf in?"
Zhou Gu’s face turned red, his ears burning. He thought he had been too rude. But she had explained the matter about calling off the marriage before, and added that she was soft-hearted towards him. If he could control himself, could he still call himself a man?
He froze for a moment, then gave in, cuddling her and leaning his head against hers. Whispering, he asked, "Does your wound really not hurt?"
Unable to bear with his attitude, Su Rong replied, "It started hurting because of you."
"I realize my mistake," Zhou Gu sadly admitted, but his tone revealed a subtle joy. "Su Rong, I am so happy."
Su Rong didn’t respond.
Zhou Gu softly said, "I have never been optimistic about myself. Thank you for believing in me. I swear to accompany you to the end of this path."
Su Rong was moved. In this world, the sweetest words could never compare to actual actions, and Zhou Gu had not only acted but also spoken his feelings. She "hmm"-ed in response.
Zhou Gu’s heart burst with happiness. He had so much he wanted to say, but she was still recovering. He rubbed his face against hers and gently patted her, "Sleep, I won’t disturb you anymore."
In her heart, Su Rong thought, ’Having you so close, I won’t be able to sleep,’ but she didn’t say anything and just "hmm"-ed again.
The emotions of a young man are passionate. If suppressed for too long and finally released, it’s like a volcanic eruption, nearly consuming him whole.
Reflecting on his life so far, he concluded that his best decision was coming to find her after settling matters with the Eighteen Villages and rescuing her from Nangong Yu’s clutches.
Before he left Capital City, he had told her that he would accompany her to Nanchu without considering that she would soften towards him and take back the step she had taken for him. This made him naturally like her, without sneaking around or holding back, even though it required being a bit presumptuous. But to him, that’s no longer a burden.
She was an independent person, not anyone’s fiancée anymore. He could gaze upon her openly, and even draw her close to him.
Su Rong thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep, but her body disagreed. When her heartbeat calmed down, her brain started to feel fuzzy, not allowing her to think. Despite the distraction of the person next to her breathing irregularly, she allowed him to hold her and gradually fell asleep.
Her breath was even and her face was at peace.
Zhou Gu listened to Su Rong’s breaths, watching her as he grew to love her more, gradually relaxing himself, resting his face against hers and closing his eyes.
By the time Feng Ling arrived, the two of them were already asleep.
Ziye caught his anxious face and promptly stopped him, "Master Feng."
Feng Ling spotted Ziye and immediately grabbed his shoulder, "Where’s my sister? How is she?"
Ziye quickly reassured him, "Miss Su is out of danger, my Young Master is watching over her by the bed, don’t worry!"
At this, Feng Ling breathed a sigh of relief, frustration setting in, "This is all my fault. How could I have let her stray? I should’ve led the team to eradicate the secret agents and let her lead Zhang Mao back to the Marquis Nanping Residence."
Ziye patted him on the shoulder, "What’s done is done. Fortunately, Miss Su was saved by my Young Master and Nangong Yu was killed by him."
Anxious, Feng Ling grabbed Ziye, "Tell me everything."
He had only learnt of the situation through the secret agents, and he hurried over without knowing the specifics. But he knew that Su Rong was almost killed by Nangong Yu’s men.
Ziye nodded and relayed how Zhou Gu had saved Su Rong, how she was unprotected when rescued, the heavy losses endured by her secret agents, and how Zhou Gu killed Nangong Yu.
After Ziye finished, Feng Ling’s face darkened.
Five hundred secret agents had left Jiangning County and arrived in the Capital City without casualty. Now, in the hands of Nangong Yu, they lost over a hundred agents, and his sister was nearly killed.
If Zhou Gu hadn’t shown up, he would never have been able to make amends.
From Jiangning County to Capital City, and then to Nanping, these months had been too smooth, leading him to believe that his sister was invincible. But now, reality told him that he should never take anything lightly. Nangong Yu was a lesson.
He took a deep breath and said to Ziye, "Thank you."
Ziye shook his head, "I didn’t do anything, it was all my Young Master’s work. Nangong Yu was personally killed by him. If you want to thank someone, thank him!"
Ziye was right, he hadn’t done anything. His own secret agents were involved while he hadn’t even drawn his sword or had a chance to fight.
Feng Ling acknowledged, "Of course, I will thank Lord Thursday."
He couldn’t imagine what would’ve happened to his sister if Zhou Gu hadn’t saved her. Nangong Yu had been there to kill her, but how he would’ve done so was unpredictable.
Looking at Su Rong’s room where the lights had gone out, he didn’t know how Zhou Gu was accompanying her. However, from today, he would no longer speak ill of Zhou Gu behind his back, or find him dissatisfactory. He said to Ziye seriously, "From today onwards, your master is my savior. I will worship him."
Ziye: "..."
Was this really necessary?
