Chapter 458 - 438: Marriage Book (Second Update)

Su Rong had never personally written a marriage document, but she had destroyed one before.

Looking at her current state, although she was taken care of properly, it was still different from her usual self. She didn’t want to remember writing the marriage document for Zhou Gu like this: huddled up in the horse-drawn carriage, unable to move, her body covered in wounds, weak and pale, with him supporting her hand as she wrote.

So, she negotiated with Zhou Gu, "Since I’ve promised you, I won’t go back on my word. Can we postpone the marriage document? When my injuries are healed and I can move by myself, I’ll write it for you, alright?"

"No." Zhou Gu couldn’t wait for even a moment longer. If it wasn’t for her lack of energy yesterday, he would have put the pen in her hand and urged her to write.

Feeling helpless, Su Rong looked at him, "Aren’t you being too impatient?"

Zhou Gu disagreed, "I think it’s perfectly fine."

He clearly lost trust in Su Rong, "Don’t worry, I won’t make you touch your wounds."

Su Rong tried to make him change his mind, "This has nothing to do with touching my wounds or not, This is about not wanting to remember our marriage document being prepared under such circumstances."

Zhou Gu looked at her and said, "I think today is a great day. The weather is fine and the sun is shining. It’s a good day."

Su Rong: "..."

Does every day without snow count as a good day?

She pointed to herself with great effort, "Look at me, don’t you think I’m in a sorry state?"

"No." Zhou Gu shook his head.

Su Rong was speechless.

Zhou Gu gently smiled, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, enjoying the sight of her delicate and fair face, "Apart from the weakness due to injuries, there’s nothing unattractive about you."

Su Rong let out a sigh.

In his eyes, wasn’t there anything unattractive? Even when she was covered with dirt and blood yesterday, he could still bring himself to kiss her.

Seeing that she wasn’t willing, Zhou Gu employed his ultimate weapon, "The day you destroyed my marriage document, you didn’t think of choosing a suitable day. Despite my reluctance, you ruthlessly destroyed it."

Su Rong in that instant realised her wrongdoing and agreed readily, "Alright, alright, let’s write it."

Upon seeing her agreement, Zhou Gu’s face brightened. He helped her sit up, holding her in his arms, supporting her arm with one hand and placing a pen in her hand with the other. Then, he took out a blank red marriage document from his sleeve and placed it in front of her.

Su Rong widened her eyes, "Where did this come from?"

She thought, in such a hurry, they could only write on plain paper.

"I sent someone to find it when you were changing your bandages." Zhou Gu said, "We can’t skimp on this."

Su Rong wanted to say, the marriage document is important, but what about the person writing the marriage document?

She held the pen tightly and asked Zhou Gu, "Um... how should a marriage document be written?"

Zhou Gu didn’t know and as the person writing wasn’t him, he only needed a marriage document. Seeing her looking at him, he winked at her, "Just make it clear that you are promising yourself to me."

Su Rong: "..."

She thought he was really unreliable and looked at Fen Ling for guidance.

Fen Ling kept waving her hands, "Sister, don’t ask me. I don’t know about this either."

Su Rong was at a loss.

Zhou Gu reminded her, "Didn’t you have a look at our marriage document when you destroyed it? You have a good memory, so you must remember what was written on it, right?"

Su Rong wished she could touch her nose, but lifting her hand seemed to be too exhausting. She did remember, but since she had destroyed the document, she couldn’t make it again. Besides, how could the marriage contract written by her mother and the Duke, compare to the one she and Zhou Gu had decided to write for themselves?

Even if they were to write the document on a day like this, in such a crude carriage and while she was injured, it still needed to be written properly.

So, she carefully considered her words and eventually put pen to paper.

"With the blessing of this fortunate day,

Two families unite in a common cause,

Creating an eternal bond to endure the test of time.

On such a beautiful day, I see my husband in his charming and pleasant aura, reaching my heart.

I envision our future filled with blooming peach flowers, where I obtain glory and honour, marrying a man of noble status, flourishing together.

I hereby pledge myself to you until my hair turns white and sign it under the bright moon, uniting our names and surnames, praying for a lifetime of happiness and peace in every passing year.

Signed, Su Rong, I present this marriage document to Zhou Gu."

After Su Rong finished writing, her hand felt weak. She put the pen down and looked at Zhou Gu.

His gaze was fixated on the marriage document. He looked happy yet touched. After a long while, he remembered something and told Fen Ling to go outside, "Fen Ling, you can leave now."

Fen Ling: "..."

The brother-in-law really only needed him when he was of use and pushed him away when he wasn’t. It wasn’t suitable for him to interrupt them anymore. Without another word, he hurriedly exited the carriage.

After Fen Ling left, Zhou Gu took the marriage document, reading it over and over, then slowly closed it and kept it securely in his pocket. After all the preparations were done, he leaned over, lowered his head, and precisely landed a kiss on Su Rong’s lips.

Unlike the previous superficial kisses, this was a deep kiss. It was so deep that all she could do was passively receive it, without any strength to return it.

If it wasn’t for her injuries, if he hadn’t lost his senses, if Ziye wasn’t rushing the carriage, if Fen Ling wasn’t following the carriage on his horse, and the covert guards weren’t surrounding them, Zhou Gu felt that, at this moment, he couldn’t let go of Su Rong.

After all, he had the marriage document, right?

Having the marriage document gave him confidence!

The person in his arms was his again, and he resolved to hold onto her tightly, never letting her go until death do them part.

When Zhou Gu finally released her, she was gasping for breath. Her eyes were full of unshed tears, and her cheeks had a rosy glow, just like the blooming peach blossoms she wrote about in their marriage document.

Zhou Gu, although moved, dared not make another move. He controlled his desire, suppressed his emotions, and lightly held Su Rong, rubbing his forehead against her cheek. His voice was hoarse, "Su Rong, I am delighted."

He liked her and even more so, was joyful.

He had rarely been so ecstatic that he wanted to share his happiness with the world. He already had everything from the moment he was born, but because he had everything, many things that others desired were easily available to him. However, it was also due to this that there was rarely anything that he couldn’t have, let go of, or suffer loss for, except for Su Rong.

Now, the joy he felt for her had made his heart feel as if it was soaked in spring water.

He kept calling out "Su Rong", conveying the joy that a young man had nowhere to vent, to her.

Su Rong’s heart also melted like spring water. Being the kind of person she was, she naturally lacked a certain desire for emotions and passion. This was both innate and intentionally cultivated by Xie Yuan. However, right now, all of that had been melted by the young man holding her.

Su Rong thought, throughout her life, she wouldn’t be able to escape from this man named Zhou Gu, or the web of connection that he had weaved with her.
