Chapter 500 - 480: Bathing (Second Update)

Su Rong sat at a distance, taking some time to recover a bit of strength, and rubbed her wrist.

She looked at the unconscious Zhang Mao and said to Jiang Zhu, "I really don’t have the strength to write anymore, I’ll dictate the prescription, you write it down, then have the kitchen boil the medicine, and feed it to him."

Jiang Zhu nodded, quickly had someone bring paper and pen, walked to the table, and wrote down the prescription as Su Rong directed.

The prescription was quickly written, and given to someone to prepare the medicine.

Ning Chi looked at Zhang Mao and remarked, "He sure is lucky."

Jiang Zhu laughed, "It’s not just about luck, it’s also about his ability to make decisions."

The Zhang family had 450,000 troops, and when Zhang Mao was captured, he didn’t know if he could place his bets right, but he made a gamble. Clearly, he made the right gamble.

Sometimes, it’s about more than just having a good life and good luck, it’s about making the right decisions, in simple terms, taking the right path.

Ning Chi nodded, "Well said."

After a few more exchanges, Ning Chi asked Su Rong, "Lady Su Qi, would you like to rest first?"

Su Rong was indeed tired, she wanted to lie on the bed, but looking at Ning Chi and Jiang Zhu, both covered in blood, she asked, "Shall I bandage you two?"

Both men shook their heads quickly, "These are minor wounds, we are not in immediate danger, we’ll have the doctor take care of it."

Su Rong nodded, "Alright then."

She stood up, "I shall take my leave now."

Ning Chi added, "It’s the same courtyard as before, shall I have someone take you there? It’s a bit far, perhaps you could use the sedan chair!"

Su Rong waved off his offer with a smile, "I’m not that delicate, I’ll walk there slowly by myself."

Having said that, she left the room and strolled off on her own.

Ning Chi’s injury was not minor, he had to lie down on the bed after the doctor had finished dressing his wound. The doctor stressed that he must rest and avoid moving the affected area, lest the wound worsens. Infections could have unimaginable consequences. The same goes for Jiang Zhu. In these past days, the two of them had sustained countless minor and major injuries all over their bodies, luckily none were fatal.

Ning Chi couldn’t help but lay back on the bed, thank goodness he had Zhou Gu, he could only entrust everything to him from now on.

Jiang Zhu’s injuries were also severe, instead of going back to his own room to recover alone, he decided to lay in the same room with Ning Chi, like the past couple of days.

Once the doctor had packed up his medical kit and left, there was no one else left in the room. Ning Chi turned to Jiang Zhu and sighed, "If I wasn’t bound by the title of Marquis of the Nanping Residence, I would have gone to Nanchu."

An uncertain future, unpredictable dangers, but serving a master like this, is worth a try for those with ambitions.

Jiang Zhu honestly suggested, "Why not pass on your title to your younger brother?"

Ning Chi laughed, "If I truly gave it to him now, he would definitely be hesitant to accept it." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Ning Ze, who in the past, naturally desired a title, had fallen into obscurity and dared not to dream of it any longer. Now, he has pledged allegiance to Su Rong and found a dependable leader with promising prospects. After several life and death trials, he’s no longer the same fool he used to be. If the title was genuinely offered to him, he would probably shy away, waving his hands in refusal, and with a pained expression on his face beg, please don’t, he wants to follow Lady Su Qi to Nanchu.

Jiang Zhu laughed heartily.

Upon returning to the courtyard where she had previously stayed at the Marquis Nanping Residence, a servant brought her water. She let Lan Zhi help her wash her body, then she softly sank back into bed and quickly dozed off.

After Lan Zhi dropped the bed curtains for her, she silently thought that her medical skills were far from matching her master’s. She should strive harder, learn more so that in the future when such incidents occur, it wouldn’t be necessary for the master to personally bandage wounds and save lives.

However, thinking about how her master had been clever since childhood, spending everyday in Huichun Hall to learn about identifying herbal medicine and eventually not only learned the art of poison, but even mastered medical skills and truly became a worthy successor.

But then again, she never admitted she had medical skills, always maintaining a lazy demeanor. Every time she got injured in a fight, she called for a doctor from Huichun Hall. If the doctor knew she could actually heal herself and that there was no need to waste so much money, he would surely scold her to death.

But who knows, her involvement with Huichun Hall was actually a conspiracy to trick out her dowry money for the upkeep of her subordinates.

Ning Ze was helping Zhou Gu, at first Zhou Gu didn’t pay attention, but then noticed he was still bleeding. He shooed him away, "We don’t need you here anymore, go get your wound bandaged."

Ning Ze blinked, "I can still hold on."

His eldest brother had fallen, Jiang Zhu had fallen, he had to hang in there. He couldn’t dump all these issues on Zhou Gu.

Zhou Gu took a serious look at him and waved his hand, "Hurry off, if your arm goes to waste, you won’t even be able to write reports. How then will you serve your master?"

Upon hearing this, Ning Ze agreed promptly and nodded, "I am on my way."

He had big plans for the future, and certainly could not afford to lose the use of his arm, so he quickly took his leave.

As the aftermath of the battle unfolded, comforting the populace and boiling pots after pots of medicinal soup for the soldiers. Then, absorbing the Jibei Army, restructuring the one hundred fifty thousand strong force, making new appointments for centurion, chiliarch, vice general, and so on, all of which were fully taken over by Zhou Gu’s men.

Zhou Gu had been busy for a whole night and a day before finally wrapping up by dusk on the second day, then returned to the Marquis Nanping Residence, worn out.

At this time, Su Rong had already enjoyed a restful sleep. Seeing him return, she flashed him a lopsided smile, "You must be tired."

Zhou Gu saw her smiling like a blooming flower and instantly felt his fatigue vanish. He walked up to her, intending to caress her head, even wanting to kiss her, but the blood and sweat covering him was so nauseating that he had to give up on that idea and headed to the adjacent room for a bath.

As soon as he jumped into the bath, Su Rong followed him. Pushing the door of the next room open and walking towards the blind, she laughed and said, "Brother, do you need me to help you scrub?"

Zhou Gu: "..."

Blood rushed into his head, "No need."

With uninterrupted steps, Su Rong said, "Are you sure about that? I don’t believe you."

The heat rushed to Zhou Gu’s face, "Stop right there."

But Su Rong didn’t, "I simply feel sorry for your hard work and wanted to reward you."

With that, she reached the blind and stepped forward again, almost there.

Zhou Gu was finally alarmed, "If you dare to enter..."

"And what if I dare?" Su Rong interrupted, her foot already inside.

Zhou Gu wished he could bury himself then and there. Instantly the flame died out and he stuttered, flushed with embarrassment and anger, "Su Rong, I beg you."

Su Rong wavered in her steps. Behind her a faint laughter came out, "Brother, are you asking me for a favor?"

Zhou Gu rubbed his forehead, forcing his voice to be calm, "I beg you."

Su Rong scoffed lightly, "I was lying on the bed while you were nursing me, and I too begged."

Zhou Gu immediately responded, "You didn’t beg, you just huffed in dissatisfaction."

Su Rong had to agree and although she didn’t withdraw her foot, she responded, "You always bully me, but is it wrong if I bully you once? Begging? How come your dignity is so worthless."

Zhou Gu thought to himself at this point, what dignity? Especially when he could beg anyone, could he beg her? His face reddened as he pleaded, "I was in the wrong, I have no dignity in front of you. Please spare me!"

Su Rong hummed lightly, "If you huff twice in dissatisfaction, I will let you off this time."

Zhou Gu: "..."

His ears turned red, but seeing her foot still there, he mustered his energy and huffed twice in dissatisfaction.

Upon hearing, Su Rong suddenly felt like barging in there anyway. After all, he had already stripped himself bare. She wanted to see what he looked like under the skin. Although he had taken advantage of her these past few days, at least there was still some measure to it. He did not invade her clothes, she too, when not satisfied, wanted to extend her hand into his clothes, but was stopped by him.

"Are you done? Don’t provoke me anymore." Zhou Gu sounded raw and desperate.

Upon hearing his pitiful voice, Su Rong retreated her foot and feigned a sigh, "Fine, I just thought you might’ve been weary. Since you don’t need my help, that’s it then."

And with that, she turned and left.

Zhou Gu: "..."
