Chapter 509 - 489: Rest (One more)

Zhao Li took out the letter that Zhang Yun had written personally to Su Rong and handed it to Zhang Mao.

Zhang Mao noticed that there was only one letter and asked, "Has he only written a personal letter to Lady Su Qi?"

"Yes," Zhao Li nodded and relayed the words from Zhang Yun to Zhang Mao, "Third Master advised you to heal well, saying that he will not write a return letter."

Zhang Mao furrowed his eyebrows and commanded, "Immediately deliver the letter to Lady Su Qi."

Ning Ze interjected from the side with an outstretched hand, "Give it to me, I will deliver it."

Zhao Li looked at Ning Ze, gripping the letter without releasing it.

Ning Ze chuffed, "Do you not trust me?" He looked towards Zhang Mao.

Zhang Mao quickly ordered, "Take Zhao Li to see Lady Su Qi."

Ning Ze nodded, said to Zhao Li, "Alright then, follow me." Hence, he led Zhao Li to Su Rong.

Su Rong just finished cleaning her hands and was about to return to the carriage when she saw Ning Ze bring a person over. The man was covered in dust, holding a letter in his hand. She halted her steps, waiting for the man to approach.

Ning Ze, being quick-mouthed, said, "Lady Su Qi, this is Zhao Li. He has a personal letter for you from Zhang Yun. He insisted on delivering it himself."

Zhao Li saluted and delivered the letter, "Lady Su Qi."

Fen Ling, standing beside, reached out and took the letter on behalf of Su Rong. After checking it and confirming it was not poisoned, he passed it to Su Rong. š•—šš›ššŽššŽš°š—²š—Æš—»šš˜ššŸššŽš—¹.š•”šØš•ž

Su Rong opened the letter, read it quickly, and smiled at Zhao Li, "You’ve worked hard. Where did you meet him?"

"At Baihua Mountain."

Su Rong exclaimed and turned to ask Fen Ling, "I remember Zhou Che took the path of Baihua Mountain, didn’t he?"

"It seems so."

"So he did not run into Zhang Yun." Su Rong laughed, "It seems that he must have been warned and deliberately avoided him."

Fen Ling commented, "After all, he’s the man you value. Possessing countless soldiers, he managed to avoid Young Master Zhou’s troops undetected, truly admirable."

Su Rong nodded, "Indeed."

Su Rong asked, "What was he like at that time? What were the multitude of soldiers like? Also, what did he say and do when you met him?"

Zhao Li recounted everything.

Su Rong was in a good mood, "You’re tired too, go rest!"

Zhao Li excused himself and returned to Zhang Mao.

Fen Ling, holding Zhang Yun’s letter, examined it carefully. He clicked his tongue, "Sister, he certainly agreed readily. From what the letter says, it should be true, right?"

"Yes," Su Rong asserted, "Zhang Yun is intelligent. Since he said it in the letter, he will do it." She instructed Fen Ling, "Order the whole army to stop moving for today, set camp immediately and rest for a day."

Fen Ling quickly agreed and relayed the order.

Su Rong rolled up the letter and requested for a falcon. She then tied Zhang Yun’s letter to its leg without removing the seal and finally released it.

Zhou Gu should not be far away yet. The falcon will quickly find him and deliver the news.

Returning to the carriage, Ning Ze still seemed in disbelief. He reached out to Zhang Mao, "Your third brother, Zhang Yun, surprisingly agreed to join Lady Su Qi. This is simply inconceivable."

Zhang Mao, not knowing what Zhang Yun had written to Su Rong, looked at Ning Ze.

Ning Ze, unable to hold back his words, recalled the letter in detail and recited it to Zhang Mao.

After listening, Zhang Mao immediately laughed, "It’s not surprising that he agreed."

"Isn’t it?" Ning Ze looked at him.

Zhang Mao nodded, "It is not surprising. My third brother is cunning and strategic. He is great at weighing pros and cons. As long as Lady Su Qi can touch his heart, he will agree."

"So, your Zhang Family is strange." Ning Ze remarked, "A father is not a father, a son is not a son."

Zhang Mao’s smile faded. After a long silence, he nodded, "You’re right. The father is not a father, the son is not a son. In the Zhang Family, sentiments are meaningless. Everyone can be sacrificed for father’s grand cause."

Ning Ze felt a little awkward and patted his shoulder, "I didn’t mean it that way. I just think that Zhang Yun took such a gamble. After all, Lady Su Qi nearly died by his hands."

One was generous enough to let bygones be bygones, and the other truly dared to pledge his allegiance.

"He has nothing to lose. Following my father, there’s no future. And as for Lady Su Qi, he allied with Nangong Yu to kill her, but the one who died was Nangong Yu. When he and my second uncle launched an attack on Nanping City with two hundred thousand soldiers, the one who died was my second uncle, losing 150 thousand soldiers." Zhang Mao coldly analyzed, "If I were him, I would also choose Lady Su Qi."

After hearing Zhang Mao’s explanation, Ning Ze also felt convinced. Any intelligent person who wants not only to live but not to die would eagerly grasp the olive branch that Su Rong extended.

He yawned, pulled the blanket over himself, "Not having to march is fantastic, I can get a good sleep."

Zhang Mao also felt that not having to march would allow him a good sleep. His leg injury prevented him from moving and traveling day and night was more torturous than for others. Initially, Su Rong wanted to leave him in Nanping City to recover, but because he wanted to contact Zhao Li and Zhang Yun, fearing the news wouldn’t be timely, he voluntarily followed the army. Su Rong then agreed.

Now that they had received Zhang Yun’s reply, Zhang Mao would deal with Zhang Ping, thus freeing their fifteen thousand soldiers to take a breather. Zhou Gu and his army were forced to rest after their hurried march.

The falcon, which swooped down from high above, flew directly into the camp, landing on Zhou Gu’s shoulder. The soldiers were resting and undisrupted.

Ziye curiously peered at the falcon, saying to Zhou Gu, "Master, could it be that Lady Su Qi already misses you after just parting?"

"It’s already been three days since we parted," Zhou Gu replied.

When they were in Capital City, Su Rong didn’t see him off when he departed. Although it made him melancholic, he didn’t think much of it. But now, after spending so many days together with Su Rong, her absence suddenly affected him greatly. During the three days and nights of hurried travel, he found himself not in the mood to talk.

He reached out to hold the falcon in his arms, untied the letter on its leg and opened it, "It’s not her letter."

Ziye overheard and leaned forward to see, exclaiming, "This is Zhang’s..."

"It’s the letter from Zhang Yun to her," Zhou Gu muttered, "She’s truly lazy, delivering it to me without even opening it."

He folded the letter carefully, scoured the falcon’s leg again, only finding the one letter, not a second. He patted the falcon’s head and muttered, "Tell me, why is she so lazy? You should remind her, even one word would do."

The falcon tilted its head to look at Zhou Gu.

Zhou Gu sighed, took a pen and wrote two large words on the back of Zhang Yun’s letter, "Received". Then he re-tied it to the falcon’s leg and handed it to Ziye, "Feed it a couple pieces of meat, let it rest and eat, then release it after it has slept a little."
