Although the Ye Family’s secret agents were embroiled in a bitter conflict with Liu’an Prince’s faction, they were still able to spare some manpower to deal with the Nangong Family and search for the Nanchu King and Zhou Gu. Nevertheless, acquiring top-quality medicinal ingredients for Ye Guixue was relatively easy for them.
After all, the Ye Family owned their own pharmacy.
Therefore, two days later, Yin Yue returned with several large bags of rare, top-grade medicinal materials, a considerable amount.
Fen Ling was shocked, "So many good herbs, in such a short time, impressive."
Yin Yue glanced at Fen Ling and said two words, "Simple."
Fen Ling nodded in acknowledgment, "Okay, okay, I get it. Nanchu is your territory. From your perspective, acquiring these items is simple." He muttered, "Is it that easy to get good herbs in Nanchu? Are they everywhere?"
He remembered that when his sister wanted to prepare medicine for her brother-in-law, it took him and his men more than ten days to gather materials.
Yin Yue paused for a moment, "No, these are herbs that the pharmacy has treasured for years. In recent years, extremely precious herbs have almost been picked clean. That’s why ordinary people find it hard to buy these good herbs."
Fen Ling nodded, "That’s what I thought."
If scarce high-quality medicinal herbs were so easy to acquire, how rich would Nanchu be?
Yin Yue hesitated for a moment, then decided to tell him, "However, there is a Zhangdu Forest in Nanchu that covers over a hundred miles and extends across several mountain ranges. It is rich in medicinal herbs, many of which are rare and high-quality, but due to the perennial fog, the prevalence of poisonous gas, venomous snakes and toxins, and the persistent humidity, normal people can’t enter it. The poisonous gas would kill them within a short time."
Fen Ling’s eyes brightened up, "Where is this Zhangdu Forest?"
When he had time in the future, he could take some people to gather herbs. He had anti-toxin pills, so he wasn’t afraid of the poison.
"It’s at the Lingshui River."
Fen Ling nodded to indicate he would remember, "When I have time, I’ll have my sister make more anti-toxin pills, and I’ll dig up all the good herbs."
Other people might fear poison, but he didn’t; they might fear venomous snakes and insects, but he didn’t.
"Zhangdu Forest also has a fatal point, that is, the perennial fog makes people lose their direction easily and they can’t get out." Yin Yue added.
"That’s not a problem." Fen Ling couldn’t wait to go right now.
Yin Yue closed her mouth.
With the obtained herbs, Su Rong took advantage of resting during the night on their journey to make medicine with Fen Ling.
Fen Ling had experience, as he had assisted Su Rong in preparing medicine for Zhou Gu before. However, he was not the type to work while others were idle. As such, when he learned that the main reason for the effort was to heal Ye Guixue’s injuries and worry that he might not be able to make it to Yunbi Mountain, he involved Yin Yue and even Lan Zhi in the task. When Qin Ruo asked if he needed help, he unceremoniously accepted his assistance as well.
After all, there were more than a dozen stoves and pots to monitor, and the more people available, the easier the job.
Of course, making medicine required precise measurement and meticulous care. The people he had pulled in were all meticulous, making them very useful.
Su Rong felt relieved, acknowledging that Fen Ling was truly competent at delegating tasks.
It was only then that Ye Guixue found out that Su Rong was preparing medicine for him. He was touched and thanked Su Rong,"Thank you, princess."
Su Rong waved her hand at him and said seriously, "You’re going to be my auxiliary politician, your body can’t afford to have any problems. You’ll be helping me in the imperial court, why thank me?"
Ye Guixue laughed, "Alright, then I won’t thank you."
It was his first time using "I", unlike Ye Xiang who had referred to himself as "old minister" initially, firmly establishing his status.
Su Rong blinked and laughed at his words. "Alright," she agreed, accepting his form of address.
So, Su Rong, leading a hundred thousand soldiers, traversed steep mountains and took numerous detours in their busy days of marching and making medicine, until they reached Yunbi Mountain.
Because there were continual supplies of medicine, Ye Guixue’s injuries did not fully heal, but they did not deteriorate.
Upon reaching Yunbi Mountain, Su Rong, Qin Ruo, and Ye Guixue immediately sent people to investigate. Upon discovering that no soldiers had passed through the area before, they sighed in relief.
The three immediately devised an ambush plan. They distributed the hundred thousand soldiers along three routes, forming a triangle to lay in wait halfway up Yunbi Mountain.
The geography and terrain of Nanchu created many areas rich in lush vegetation, even during the winter, the plants remained lush, providing an excellent cover for people.
Once all their tracks had been concealed, Su Rong confidently waited for Han Yin’s arrival.
Han Yin didn’t keep her waiting long. Two days later, a secret agent reported that an army had arrived at Yunbi Mountain, Han Yin and his forty thousand Dawei soldiers.
Su Rong revealed a smile, squinting her eyes, "Send an order to all forces, kill them all, leave no survivors. After the battle, we’ll recognize the merits and confer rewards."
The hundred thousand soldiers concentrated their efforts.
Han Yin also had scouts checking the way ahead for news whilst advancing. However, as Su Rong and her hundred thousand soldiers had arrived two days earlier and hid their tracks well, his scouts didn’t find anything, reporting clear roads ahead.
Similarly, Han Yin had his men lookout for any troops chasing them from behind. No troops were found, so Han Yin was very reassured.
As a result, he led his forty thousand soldiers into Yunbi Mountain without any preparation, walking right into the trap set by Su Rong and her hundred thousand soldiers.
After confirming Ham Yin and his forty thousand soldiers were within their encirclement, Su Rong gave the command. The sounds of bows and screams echoed throughout the mountains. Alarmed, Han Yin realized he had fallen into an ambush.
He immediately commanded his men to retreat, but it was already too late—their escape route had been sealed off by the soldiers.
Rocks rolled down the mountains, arrows rained down like a thunderstorm, and the killing intent of a hundred thousand soldiers spread across Yunbi Mountain, akin to hell.
Han Yin and his soldiers were trapped, their only option was to fight to the death in hopes to find a way out, but that was impossible. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Su Rong was well-prepared, and the ambush plan devised by her, Ye Guixue, and Qin Ruo was flawless. Furthermore, she and Ye Guixue and Qin Ruo didn’t even join in the fight, leaving it to Fen Ling, Yin Yue, and the vice-generals, who fought valiantly.
It was very easy for them to kill Dawei’s men. Their hatred was even stronger than their killing intent, giving them a sense of exhilaration.
Of course, with only forty thousand soldiers, Han Yin was no match for the hundred thousand soldiers who had prepared an ambush in advance. The exhilaration the soldiers of Daliang and Nanchu felt was unparalleled.
The killing lasted an entire day. Han Yin attempted to break through but failed. Fen Ling had hoped to capture him alive, like how he captured He Zhong, but Han Yin, his eyes bloodshot, committed suicide by his sword.
Fen Ling commented, "He was a real man, at least."
