Chapter 610 - 590: Reluctance (Second Update)

Zhou Gu saw that Fang Yue had taken in his words, and a breath of relief escaped him.

He reached out and patted him on the shoulder, "Brace yourself and fight! See who is leading the army? It’d be best if we can kill them or capture them, maybe we’d still have a sliver of hope."

Fang Yue said, "The leader of the army could be the Liu’an Prince himself."

Zhou Gu raised his eyebrow, "I thought it would be his legitimate son, Chu Chu."

Fang Yue replied, "It doesn’t seem like it."

"Alright," Zhou Gu turned to Zhang Yun and said, "Brother Zhang Yun, things are different now. You and your father-in-law should go hide in the cave Fang Yue mentioned. If you can’t hide, fight. I’ll figure out a way to kill our way out and capture the Liu’an Prince."

In this mountain valley, the trees and grass were densely grown. It was not suitable for shooting arrows in case of hurting their own people. These soldiers should not be shooting arrows as well, so he might be able to fight his way out.

He narrowed his eyes and said to Fang Yue, "You and Ziye, cover me while we break out."

He had infiltrated the enemy camp of the Jibei Army twice in the past. Now, he didn’t believe that he couldn’t make it to the Liu’an Prince amidst only fifty thousand soldiers.

Zhang Yun gritted his teeth, "Alright."

At this point, what else is there to risk or be afraid of? Any possible method must be used. Otherwise, they could only wait for death.

He instructed Lang Ying, "Lang Ying, you follow Lord Thursday and protect him with your life."

Lang Ying lowered his head, "Yes."

Although his heart was with his own lord, he knew that now Lord Thursday was facing a more dangerous situation. He needed more people to clear the way for him, otherwise, he might not even reach the Liu’an Prince before being defeated.

Zhou Gu sighed and glanced at Zhang Yun. He didn’t object, but just waved his hand and lowered his voice, "Let’s go."

Thus, Zhou Gu, Ziye, Fang Yue, Lang Ying, and others protected Zhou Gu, taking half of the guards with them to find a spot, broke through the enemies, and began the fight.

The soldiers were searching when they heard the miserable screams and the clash of weapons from a distance. Immediately, they were alarmed and rushed toward the sound. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Zhang Yun didn’t dare to delay. He quickly took the Nanchu King and ran towards the cave Fang Yue had mentioned.

Fifty thousand soldiers might not seem like a lot in the midst of a legion, but in this mountain valley, it was overwhelmingly high. So much so, that Zhou Gu and his men had reached their limit after only making half a mile progress.

Half a mile was not enough to get them out of the valley, let alone to reach the Liu’an Prince himself.

The swarm of soldiers, the bright torches in the surroundings, and the blazing flames illuminated the entire valley. The smell of blood was overwhelming.

No matter how good Zhou Gu and the others were in martial arts or how lightly they could tread, they could not stand against the endless wave of soldiers and the long spears in their hands.

This was a brutal massacre. Zhou Gu and his men were as insignificant as ants among the fifty thousand soldiers, and this was different from the two times he infiltrated the military camp with his men. He didn’t have the aid of an expert like Fen Ling who could take out a large number of soldiers with a flick of her fingers, Ziye was not an expert in the killer gold needles, neither were Fang Yue, Lang Ying, or the shadow guards, only their swords were their hope.

As for Zhou Gu, he too, was not an expert. He had prepared some Poison Powder, but since escaping from Zhangdu Forest and being pursued by the Nangong Family, he had already used up all his Poison Powder, and now he could only rely on his Double-Handed Sword.

He thought, he was running out of strength. He was afraid he might not even last till he reached the Liu’an Prince, he might run out of power to continue the fight. How come Su Rong hasn’t arrived yet? He implored her to come quickly, he didn’t want to die, and he didn’t want to die without seeing her. He was afraid he would die restlessly and with regrets. If he died, would she only be sad for a short while, would she just forget him and then choose Ye Guixue as her king consort again?

He didn’t want that!

He didn’t want her to marry anyone else, even Ye Guixue was not an exception, nor was anyone else.

His mind was numb and chaotic from all the fighting. The Double-Handed Sword in his hand, he kept on mechanically executing his moves. As his sword stabbed into bodies, the dull thumps and the smell of blood no longer made him sick; all he could think about was hoping that Su Rong would hurry up and come, after all, he did not want to die.

While fighting, he dreamed about their future together. His firm belief that he could accompany her for the rest of their lives should not collapse. Otherwise, even if he fell into the Underworld, he would have to turn into a Fierce Ghost and crawl back to the living world to haunt her every night.

"Fang Yue!" Ziye shouted in alarm, his sword flew out from his hand, blocking a fatal strike for Fang Yue.

But, because of this, he was stabbed in his left chest with a "Schick" sound and his body swayed violently.

Fang Yue’s shocked face swiftly drew the sword from a soldier, ran over to Ziye, killed another man, and held onto Ziye, shouting, "Ziye!"

The two men’s shouts brought the numb Zhou Gu back to his senses. He regained clarity in his eyes, leaped into the air, the double-handed sword in his hand turned into thousands of slashing blades. In a moment, where his sword swept across, dozens of people fell, and the area was cleared, allowing Ziye and Fang Yue to catch their breath.

Lang Ying had been protecting Zhou Gu the whole time, he was amazed by Zhou Gu’s sword skills. He remembered back in Daliang when he had infiltrated the Jibei Army, he had also demonstrated such astonishing sword skills. The young boy’s sword shined bright as snow. With a wave of his hand, a rain of swords fell, leaving at its wake an astonishing sight. His lord later praised Zhou Gu, clutching his chest, "To survive under such a sword, I could say that I’ve done quite well."

Indeed, that was quite impressive.

He thought, even if he died today, dying alongside Lord Thursday, he wouldn’t have any regrets.

Just as this thought passed through his mind, he relentlessly cursed himself in his heart, thinking nonstop, that he didn’t want to die.

Inside Zhou Gu, there seemed to be an endless source of power again. His Double-Handed Sword guarded the area of three Zhangs in radius around him tightly. All that was left were his never-ending sword swings, and then followed by groups after groups of soldiers falling before his sword.

Until someone shouted, "Shoot the arrows, kill him regardless of life or death."

The soldiers woke up from their fear upon hearing this, hastily drew their bows and positioned their arrows, aiming them towards Zhou Gu, all blocked by him.

"Liu’an Prince, you’re seeking death!" Zhou Gu shot into the air, directed himself toward the voice of the middle-aged man, even if an arrow had hit him, he didn’t stop.

But the distance was too great, and the soldiers’ scattered arrows were coming from all directions. Even though Ziye, Fang Yue, Lang Ying, and the shadow guards were risking their lives to protect him, Zhou Gu still couldn’t get close to the Liu’an Prince.

He simply steadied himself, aimed at the location of the Liu’an Prince and forcefully threw his Double-Handed Sword at him. Then he swiftly grabbed a bow and arrow from the nearest soldier’s hand. He quickly drew the bow and launched another arrow.

With a scream of agony, the Liu’an Prince, under the protection of his guards, narrowly dodged the two swords thrown by Zhou Gu but was hit by the arrow Zhou Gu launched.

Seeing his attack land, Zhou Gu’s energy was depleted. He was hit by a sword and staggered. He didn’t even have the strength to counterattack when Ziye, Lang Ying, and Fang Yue protected him, blocking the weapons for him. The shadow guards fell one by one, the three others were also on the brink of falling down.

Zhou Gu sighed, he didn’t have the slightest bit of strength left, he simply gave up resisting.
