The secret guard of Lord Thursday, when he left the capital, was comprised of hundreds of people, including those he owned and those borrowed from the Cui family of Qinghe by the Duke’s wife. Now, they were reduced to just dozens, all severely injured and barely holding on. The secret guard of Lord Chang, which had left the Daliang border and came to Nanchu, had also been reduced from a few hundred to nearly just dozens, including Lang Ying. Fang Yue’s men who joined the war later than they did were now less than a hundred, most of whom were just clinging onto life.
If it hadn’t been for her sister making medicines for the Second Young Master Ye along the way, and the fact that Yin Yue, who was by his side, had provided so many precious medicinal herbs, allowing her sister to focus on making ’Guben Huanyuan Dan’, which she felt was most beneficial, and stored a large supply of it, there would not have been enough medicine to save lives. She feared that those who were barely holding onto life wouldn’t have been saved and they would all have died. Fortunately, now they could all be saved. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
’Guben Huanyuan Dan’ could bring people back from the brink of death, as long as they had one last breath left.
Recruiting soldiers, cleaning the battlefield, registering in the book, healing the wounded... all these tasks kept Feng Ling busy and whirling in a loop.
Zhou Gu was severely injured. Despite Su Rong immediately feeding him several pills, he still couldn’t hold on and passed out as soon as he was brought to a clean place.
He didn’t want to pass out at all. He wanted to have a conversation with Su Rong, anything would do. There were so many things he wanted to say, and he wanted to hold her in his arms. But both his arms were already too weak to raise, and his mind was getting more and more blurry, his eyelids heavier, until they finally shut.
Su Rong brought Zhou Gu to a clean space and laid him down. Looking at him passed out, she felt her heart ached and started to remove his outer garment to treat his wounds.
Once his clothes were removed, the numerous injuries on Zhou Gu’s body were clearly visible. There were dozens of wounds, two severe cuts, and one arrow wound. Thankfully none were fatal, but he had lost a lot of blood.
She took a deep breath and instructed the secret guard to bring the medicine box.
Lan Zhi was not with her. Another secret guard, Bi Qing who was good at healing, was carrying the medicine box, staying by her side, holding the torch to assist Su Rong.
Su Rong cleaned Zhou Gu’s wounds with alcohol to disinfect them, used her internal energy to remove the arrow, then applied the best wound healing medicine on his wounds. After bandaging him, she was still not assured. She pulled out a bunch of medicine bottles from her bosom, choosing carefully, and fed him two pills that were for replenishing blood and protecting the heart.
Only after tending to Zhou Gu’s wounds personally did Su Rong wipe her face with her sleeve, let out a sigh of relief, and sit down next to him.
Bi Qing suggested, "Madam, we should take Lord Thursday to the camp. Lord Feng Ling has instructed us to set up camp outside the valley."
Su Rong nodded, "Get some people to carry Lord Thursday on a stretcher to the camp, I’m going to check on my dear father and Zhang Yun, they are also heavily injured, I haven’t taken care of them since saving them."
Following Bi Qing’s command, two men promptly acted upon the instructions.
After the two secret guards carried Zhou Gu away, Su Rong got up and walked away, with Bi Qing carrying the medicine box behind her, and they went to find the King of Nanchu.
After Zhou Gu left with his men claiming he was going to kill the Prince of Liu’an, Zhang Yun protected the Nanchu King and started moving towards the cave at the middle of the mountain that Fang Yue had mentioned. Nonetheless, they had not gone far when they ran into soldiers searching for them and assassins from the Nangong family. After a vicious battle, Zhang Yun realised they could not escape. Even the Nanchu King had to fight. Their secret guards one by one fell down, and in the end, both the Nanchu King and Zhang Yun were seriously injured. Despair gripped Zhang Yun as he shielded the Nanchu King.
Just as Zhang Yun thought that he and the Nanchu King were certain to die, Su Rong and Feng Ling, along with a large number of secret guards, descended from the cliff of Wanren Mountain into the Death Valley just in time to save the Nanchu King and himself.
Following Su Rong’s rescue, she didn’t even have time to say a word to the two of them and just instructed Feng Ling, "You cover our rear, arrange for someone to guard them and treat their injuries. I’m going to find Zhou Gu."
As soon as she finished speaking, she hurried away.
Feng Ling pulled out a bunch of medicine bottles and handed them to Zhang Yun, "Young Master Zhang, you know what medicine to take. There are markings on these medicine bottles. I’ll leave some men here to help you."
Having narrowly escaped death, Zhang Yun quickly accepted the medicine and nodded, "Alright, you go!"
So, Feng Ling left some of his men behind and rushed after Su Rong, praying along the way that Su Rong’s husband would hold on, that nothing bad would happen, otherwise, his sister would have to live her whole life in loneliness.
Along the way, they rode fast horses and marched at high speed. However, because they took the main road without concealing their traces, they ran into the few soldiers and horses of the Nangong family who were scattered across various counties and towns. Even though these soldiers couldn’t stop Su Rong and her fifty thousand cavalry, they really delayed their time.
That night, they rushed hurriedly to Wanren Mountain. Upon their arrival, they heard the sounds of fighting from inside. Su Rong knew it would be difficult to enter the valley through the entrance due to the desperate situation inside. Therefore, she promptly instructed her Vice General to lead his men for a frontal attack, while she and Feng Ling, leading a large number of secret guards, infiltrated the Death Valley directly from the cliff of Wanren Mountain.
The cliffs of Wanren Mountain were thousands of feet high, surrounded by lush forests and steep terrain, but this was indeed the best way Su Rong could think of to bypass the soldiers and horses of the Prince of Liu’an blocking the valley and find Zhou Gu and the others as quickly as possible.
Indeed, the decision she made in her urgency was correct. Due to the obstruction of the scattered soldiers and horses of the Nangong family, she arrived half a day later than planned. But even that half day delay was agonizing for her. Now, she was only a little late. Any further delay, and she would have lost not only her dear father, but Zhou Gu as well. So would Zhang Yun, the man who, without much persuasion, believed in and chose to side with her willingly. He too would have died here.
She was furious with the Prince of Liu’an and vowed to rid of him with a thousand cuts.
After Feng Ling left his men behind and left, the secret guards protected the Nanchu King and Zhang Yun, giving the two some time to catch their breath. Zhang Yun, using the light from the torch, started struggling to recognize the characters on the medicine bottles. As soon as he found the Guben Huanyuan Dan, he instantly poured out several pills, handed two to the Nanchu King, and stuffed two in his own mouth.
The Nanchu King was in a daze, "That... just now, that was... that was..."
"Your daughter, the princess, Su Rong," Zhang Yun replied.
The King of Nanchu nodded, after a long pause, he seemed both sad and joyful, with his lips trembling incessantly. "She looks a lot like Zhenmin..."
Zhang Yun nodded, "We have long heard rumors that Lady Su Qi bears a striking resemblance to Princess Zhenmin."
The Nanchu King clutched his heart, "I had thought... I had thought I would never see her again in my life, I didn’t expect... the Divine has been kind to me..."
Zhang Yun agreed, "Indeed, very kind."
Even he had thought he was going to die and was beyond salvation. He hadn’t even had time to feel pity for himself and regret his decision of choosing to side with Su Rong. Now, he realized that even if he had to die, he wouldn’t regret it.
"Will Zhou Gu be alright?" The Nanchu King, thinking of Zhou Gu, suddenly stood up, "He can’t be in trouble."
"Ouch, Your Majesty, take it easy. Don’t you want to live a long life?" Zhang Yun hurriedly held the Nanchu King back, "Lord Zhou is highly skilled in martial arts. We’ve managed to hold on until now; he can definitely hold on until the princess finds him. You are severely injured, you mustn’t move recklessly."
Upon hearing Zhang Yun’s words, The Nanchu King calmed down and noddingly accepted the advice.
