The assassins had never encountered such a group of people before, thus, even after taking antidotes, they were still in chaos.
The situation reversed in an instant.
Prince Yuan Zhao of Dawei, in collaboration with Luo Yan, targeted Su Rong. Yuan Zhao was also a master in martial arts and wielded a sword skillfully. Even though Fen Ling cooperated well with Su Rong, they felt that their opponents were extremely formidable. It was a deathmatch.

Unlike Zhou Gu and Zhang Yun, who developed a tacit understanding through numerous fights since their arrival in Nanchu, and unlike Su Rong and Fen Ling, who only starting cooperating after Su Rong revealed his identity; Yin Yue and Ye Guixue have been together since childhood, and their tacit understanding has developed over many years.
Thus, without needing Ye Guixue to say anything, Yin Yue simply understood his motive.
Protected by Yin Yue, Ye Guixue dashed past the Dawei assassins, sword already at striking distance to Luo Yan’s arm.
Luo Yan was too focused on dealing with Su Rong and Fen Ling to realize someone was attacking her. When she turned around, it was too late. Her face turned aghast, but it was too late to retract her attacking pseudo-sword. Prince Yuan Zhao had an incredibly swift reaction, yanking Luo Yan aside as he swung out a fierce sword.
Ye Guixue’s sword still slashed Luo Yan’s arm, at the same time, his sword-wielding shoulder was struck by Yuan Zhao’s blade. Yin Yue could not reach him in time to save him, and he too, just like Yuan Zhao, could only yank Ye Guixue a step back to reduce the attack’s impact.
Blood streamed from Luo Yan’s arm, and so it did from Ye Guixue’s shoulder.
The snake entwined around Luo Yan’s arm sprang towards Ye Guixue the moment it smelled blood. Zhou Gu and Zhang Yun just happened to be nearby and with a swift double-handed sword move, they severed the snake’s head and belly, throwing it towards Luo Yan herself.
Luo Yan’s face turned deathly pale, and she let out a dismal scream, "Hongying!"
Indeed, that red poisonous snake was her pet named Hongying, which she cherished immensely. The snake had climbed into the sleeping quarters of Prince Yuan Zhao and spat venom, poisoning him unknowingly. She had gained the status of Yuan Zhao’s consort due to this very incident.
However, now, it had been dismembered by Zhou Gu’s sword.
Luo Yan was beyond furious, eyes blazing with anger, she unleashed an onslaught of poisonous projectiles towards Zhou Gu. In that moment, she seemed to have lost her mind, disregarding her heavily bleeding arm, she rushed murderously towards where Zhou Gu stood.
Seeing things take a turn for the worse, Su Rong teamed up with Fen Ling, kicking several shields towards Luo Yan, blocking a few of the poisonous projectiles. Su Rong then jumped onto a siege chariot, springing towards Zhou Gu, roughly pulled him back a few steps, narrowly missing Luo Yan’s lethal attacks.
Luo Yan was furious that her attack had not landed. In her fury, she directed her curved knife and hidden weapon towards Su Rong, simultaneously whistling for all the Poison Doctor Sect members. They instantly gave up their fights with the assassins and flocked over, surrounding Su Rong and Zhou Gu, who was behind her.
"Kill them! They killed Hongying! Kill them!" Luo Yan screamed in an ear-splitting command. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
All members of the Poison Doctor Sect, wielding weapons, poisons, and hidden weapons, hurled everything they had towards Su Rong and Zhou Gu.
Fen Ling and the assassins were taken aback but were helpless against the frenzied Poison Doctor Sect members under Luo Yan’s command.
Su Rong had no more shields and could only block the incoming hidden weapons with her sword. Zhou Gu stepped in front of Su Rong, transforming his double-handed sword into an energy shield, deflecting all the poison darts and poisons. Seeing that killing a few people wouldn’t help them rescue their own, Fen Ling grabbed Zhang Yun, lifting a siege chariot together, and hurled it towards the members of the Poison Doctor Sect that were surrounding Su Rong and Zhou Gu.
With a large ’thump,’ the chariot fell to the ground, creating a loud noise and briefly blocking the onslaught of the Poison Doctor Sect members towards Su Rong and Zhou Gu.
But there was one exception, that was Luo Yan. She continued attacking Zhou Gu’s face, with the frantic pace of someone who had gone mad.
Zhou Gu’s injury had not fully healed yet, and his movements were slightly slower. Seeing Luo Yan’s curved knife about to drop on his arm, Su Rong instinctively pulled Zhou Gu to his side and was slashed on her back by the curved knife.
"Xiaoqi!" Zhou Gu’s face was filled with panic as he yelled out in alarm.
Su Rong’s strength drained from her as she slumped onto Zhou Gu.
On the other side, Ye Guixue and Yin Yue were engaged in an entangled battle with Prince Yuan Zhao and his guards. Qing Ling and Zhang Yun made their way through the gap made by the chariot and rushed in. Seeing Su Rong injured, Fen Ling’s face turned pale and without hesitation, he threw a handful of golden needles at Luo Yan. Two members of the Poison Doctor Sect immediately moved in front of Luo Yan to shield her, falling to the ground in response.
Fen Ling grew restless and attacked Luo Yan.
Luo Yan was blinded by rage, and so was he.
Zhang Yun and Zhou Gu were engaged in battle, all the while protecting Su Rong who had been grievously injured on her back, making the situation extremely critical.
Xie Yuan, watching from atop the city wall, shouted, "Retreat!"
The signal to withdraw was immediately communicated on the Nanchu side. Zhou Gu and the others knew that it was too difficult for them to fight against Dawei, with its eighty thousand strong-army, the masters from the Poison Doctor Sect, and Prince Yuan Zhao’s personal guards. They must withdraw, they could only last a while even if Dawei still had four siege cannons. If they do not withdraw, they would all fall here, given the circumstances.
"You think it’s that easy to leave?" Luo Yan, with bloodshot eyes sneered, "All members of the Poison Doctor Sect, don’t let them leave, kill them, I want to avenge Hongying."
