Chapter 664 - 644: Instructions (One More)

Zhou Gu slept for two hours and when he woke up, he saw Cui Yanjin leaning against his bed, yawning one after another, looking utterly sleepy yet stubbornly trying to stay awake.

He asked, "What time is it?"

Cui Yanjin trembled, "Cousin, you’re awake?"

He stood up briskly, looked at the water clock, "You’ve slept for two hours, are you hungry? I’ll have someone bring you some food."

Zhou Gu looked at him without responding, then asked, "Where’s Su Rong?"

"Cousin-in-law? I’m not sure, there’s been no movement from next door—she’s probably still unconscious?" Cui Yanjin scratched his head slightly, "I’ve been with you all this time, I didn’t move."

Even if he had moved, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to enter the cousin-in-law’s room to check on her since he’s a man.

Zhou Gu nodded. "Help me get up."

Cui Yanjin hurriedly helped him up, then instructed someone to bring him food and drink, before rushing to pour him a glass of water.

Zhou Gu watched him and asked, "Where did you learn this?"

"What do you mean?" Cui Yanjin was confused.

"Taking care of people, you’re very skilled at it," said Zhou Gu.

Cui Yanjin snorted, "My mother has made me do chores since I was a child, she didn’t want me to be a useless person who doesn’t know grain from chaff, so I have no maids to serve me. I only had a wet nurse when I was a child, but she’s no longer with us."

Zhou Gu nodded in realization, recalling how his uncle and aunt raised their children, which was quite different from other families. Even though they had plenty of people and money, they preferred to do things themselves.

He drank a glass of water, slowly getting out of bed. Cui Yanjin immediately said, "Cousin, you can’t move around recklessly."

"I’m fine," Zhou Gu shook his head.

Cui Yanjin could only extend a hand to support him, but he waved it away and took a step forward on his own.

Cui Yanjin could only follow him worriedly.

Zhou Gu gingerly walked out of his room towards the adjacent one. Seeing a lit lamp inside, Lan Zhi was looking after Su Rong. Seeing him, she quickly stood up, "Fourth Young Master."

Zhou Gu nodded, walked to the bed, and the first sight he saw was Su Rong, lying in bed with a pale face, still unconscious. He asked, "When will she wake up?"

"Master Zhang didn’t say, the mistress was gravely injured this time, I’m not sure if she can wake up tomorrow," said Lan Zhi.

Zhou Gu nodded, looked at Su Rong for a while longer, then returned to his room.

Cui Yanjin followed Zhou Gu to check on her, and then came back with him, whispering, "Cousin, my cousin-in-law is in such a miserable state."

Zhou Gu glared at him, "Can’t you speak properly?"

Cui Yanjin quickly changed his words, "My cousin-in-law is very lucky, her life was saved because you and I arrived just in time."

Zhou Gu was satisfied, "You should get some rest, I don’t need you to watch over me here."

"How can that be? I promised Master Zhang that I would look after you properly," Cui Yanjin shook his head.

Zhou Gu said, "I’m awake now and don’t need to be looked after. You should get some sleep, and if I’m not mistaken, Dawei will attack the city again tomorrow."

"Dawei will attack the city again tomorrow? Do they not even have a truce for a day?" Cui Yanjin was shocked.

"No," Zhou Gu shook his head.

Cui Yanjin immediately said, "We must notify my cousin right away."

"Is he still at the City Gate?" Zhou Gu asked.

"I think so? I haven’t seen him around." Cui Yanjin wasn’t sure either.

"Get someone on your end to send a man to see. If he’s finished with his work, have him come back here. Tell him I need to speak with him," Zhou Gu instructed.

The people under his command were so exhausted they couldn’t even stand. The reason he woke up so quickly and managed to get up could barely move was because Fen Ling, Su Rong, Ye Guixue, Yin Yue, and others had been protecting him today. Everyone followed Su Rong’s orders to protect him to the end.

"Alright," Cui Yanjin immediately went to get someone.

After arranging for someone to send a message to Cui Xingzhi, he hurriedly sent for Master Zhang, informing him that Zhou Gu had woken up and was wandering around despite advice, and that he couldn’t control him, and asked Master Zhang to come and see whether Zhou Gu could really move around.

Master Zhang arrived quickly and seeing Zhou Gu sitting at the table, exclaimed, "Fourth Young Master, with your injuries, you should be resting in bed, not moving about."

"It’s alright, I understand my condition. I can move," Zhou Gu asked Master Zhang what he was most concerned about, "How are their injuries? Are they severe?"

Master Zhang came over to take Zhou Gu’s pulse, sighing at the same time, "The injuries of Second Young Master Ye, Master Feng, and Master Yin Yue are the most severe. Fortunately, Young Master Qin Feng of the Evil Ghost Sect knows how to use acupuncture, otherwise they wouldn’t have survived. They are still in critical condition, and I, along with Young Master Qin Feng, have been watching over them, afraid that someone might get a fever in the middle of the night. Every hour, they are fed with water-mixed medicine."

Zhou Gu nodded. Back then, when Su Rong ordered Ye Guixue and the guards to leave with him, the Nangong family and the Poison Doctor Sect tried desperately to stop them. All the swords and knives were blocked by Ye Guixue and Yin Yue. They and a few guards protected him to the City Gate, they were already on the verge of collapse. If the two cousins hadn’t brought reinforcements, their injuries would have been even more severe, perhaps fatal.

And Fen Ling, even before Su Rong came down from the City Wall, had blocked two blades for him. Later, he and Su Rong fought Nangong Zheng together, he’s lucky to be alive for now considering his injuries.

Master Zhang also said, "Master Xie was also severely injured. Although the others are also seriously injured, their conditions are slightly better."

"Who has woken up now?" asked Zhou Gu.

"Young Master Mao and Young Master Ning," said Master Zhang. "These two were injured because of their zither playing, causing internal damage. They took the medicine in time and only fell unconscious for a short while. They are preparing to go to the City Gate after eating."

Zhou Gu nodded.

Master Zhang continued, "Miss Shen is not in good condition, although the baby in her stomach was saved, I’m afraid it might cause her body to become weak in the future. Alas, speaking of the baby in Miss Shen’s womb, it has really been through a lot. In any ordinary woman’s case, a miscarriage would have occurred already. Miss Shen at first said that the baby couldn’t be saved, but I feel that it’s more dangerous not to save it considering how many months she is now, so I forcefully kept it."

Zhou Gu nodded his assent, "Assign someone to take good care of her, sparing no good medicine."

"Don’t worry, we have plenty of good medicine. If there’s one thing Nanchu isn’t lacking, it’s good medicine. The Ye Xiang Residence has already transported all the medicinal materials from its shops to the army. They’re coming into great use now," Master Zhang, having finished taking Zhou Gu’s pulse, advised him, "Fourth Young Master, you have lost a lot of blood and are extremely weak. Your old injuries have not healed, and new ones have been added. Although you can move, it’s only because of your willpower, not because your body is truly capable. Now that we have the help of Qinghe Cui family, you must take good care of yourself and refrain from engaging in martial arts. If you continue to fight, even if you manage to hold onto your life, your martial arts skills might be affected in the future. The consequences are serious. Please do not take it lightly, Fourth Young Master."

In other words, even if there’ll be a fight tomorrow, you can’t go to the battlefield.
