Mister Cui recalls when he was young, his daughter brought her little grandson to visit him in Qinghe. He enjoyed their company dearly. They would lie in his bed listening to him reading history.
Now those two children have grown up, one of them is even getting married, and he has grown old as well.
The relocation from Qinghe in Daliang to Nanchu seems like a dream.
Apparently, Zhou Gu was tired and fell asleep first.
Not much later, Cui Xingzhi also fell asleep.
Ironically, Mr Cui remained awake. He turned his head to look at his cousins and wondered how long it had been since they had a good rest. Clearly, he was the one who had been exhausted from the long journey, but they seemed even more tired.
On this day off, both of them refused to go back to work and chose instead to sleep with him.
Mister Cui sighed, thinking happily about the few members of the Cui family who had arrived. Their presence, though small in number, provided some help.
With these thoughts, he fell asleep. When he woke up, he saw that his cousins were still sleeping. He got up and cautiously got out of bed without making a noise and walked out the room.
Upon seeing Mister Cui, the housekeeper hurriedly handed him a box, "Old master, this is the deed and keys to the house on Hongfeng Lane sent by the Princess."
Mister Cui took it, opened it to take a look, and said, "Since the Princess is so kind, for now, we can settle freely in this residence. In a few days, we’ll choose a good day to move over."
"Will... will the Young Masters move as well?" the housekeeper asked.
"Yes, Xingzhi is the eldest son of the main family. Naturally, wherever the main family is, he will be there." Mister Cui said, "As for Little Yanjin, he will also come along with his family. There are just three of them. When Little Yanjin comes of age, he can move back here. The presence of Mister Cui and his wife is destabilizing, and knowing that they aren’t under my watch gives me anxiety. They could easily ruin the child."
The housekeeper nodded, "Then, I’ll go tell Mister Cui and Madam."
"Hmm." Mister Cui dismissed him with a wave of his hand.
When Cui Yuanbin and Liao Yuying heard that they were also moving, Cui Yuanbin was instantly unhappy, "Tell my uncle that we don’t need it. No matter how big the house is, it’s still crowded when so many people live together."
"No, the house that the Princess just bestowed is very spacious, twice as big as the one you are staying in now. It’s more than enough to accommodate all of us." the housekeeper responded.
"But I don’t want to." Cui Yuanbin was averse to being controlled by Uncle Cui.
"I want to. Don’t listen to him, just follow Uncle’s arrangements and move together." Liao Yuying vehemently agreed.
"Madam, why?" Cui Yuanbin felt that his wife had changed. Does she actually enjoy being under someone else’s control now?
Liao Yuying whispered, "I’m lazy. I don’t want to manage the house."
Cui Yuanbin: "..."
Alright then!
Zhou Gu and Cui Xingzhi slept until evening. Upon waking up, they looked at each other, both feeling refreshed.
Cui Xingzhi chuckled first, "My cousin, shall we dine before returning to the palace, or do you want to stay here in my residence?"
"I’ll return to the palace." Zhou Gu got out of bed.
Cui Xingzhi nodded.
Dinner was already prepared, just waiting for the two to wake up. Mister Cui looked at them, "You’ve slept for over two hours."
Zhou Gu yawned, "It’s been a while since I’ve had a daytime nap."
Mister Cui asked, "This golden autumn, Nanchu is showing leniency, I’ve just heard that women are allowed to take the Imperial Examination with men?"
"Yeah." Zhou Gu nodded.
"A few of my girls at home are also considering taking it, what do you think?" Mister Cui asked.
"Yes."
Seeing his approval, Mister Cui decided, "I’ll let them give it a try."
After dinner, Zhou Gu left the Cui Residence and rode back to the Royal Palace.
After he left, Mr Cui told Cui Xingzhi that once Cui Yanjin returns, they will select an auspicious day to move to Hongfeng Lane. Cui Xingzhi had no objection, "Grandfather can decide."
Mr Cui said, "This place doesn’t need to be empty either, we can leave some people to take care of the residence."
Cui Xingzhi nodded.
Mister Cui then asked, "What about the people from the Evil Ghost Sect that Little Yanjin brought?"
""They have all earned their reputations on the battlefield. The Princess has granted them houses, but most of them have chosen to stay in the army instead of returning to the royal capital with Yanjin. In the future, they will decide for themselves whether or not they want to continue to serve by Yanjin’s side or hold a position in the army, but I guess, most of them will choose to stay in the army." said Cui Xingzhi.
Mister Cui nodded, "That’s good. Now that they have a proper path, they can protect their wives and pass on their belongings to their children in the future."
When Zhou Gu returned to the Royal Palace, he happened upon the Nanchu King and Su Rong eating dinner. The King of Nanchu saw him return and asked him, "It’s rare for you to come back this early. Have you eaten dinner?"
"I ate at the Cui Residence and then came back." Zhou Gu sat down.
The king of Nanchu sighed, "Who was it that had previously promised to dine with me every day? I’ve hardly seen you fulfill this promise even once."
Zhou Gu laughed, "When I’m not busy, I’ll accompany my father-in-law for all three meals."
The King of Nanchu knew Zhou Gu was exhausted every day, so he just casually said, "Are all the family members of the Cui family settled in?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"They are settled in." Zhou Gu said, "My grandfather mentioned moving to the house in Hongfeng Lane in a few days to make the most of the Princess’s kind intentions."
The King of Nanchu agreed, "That mansion is good. At first, I thought it was too big and didn’t know who to bestow it to. After all, everyone close to you guys are bachelors with no family. It could only be kept idle. Now, it finally comes in handy."
Su Rong looked at the King of Nanchu, "Most of the houses for the officials of the King of Nanchu are empty. Father was saying so."
The King of Nanchu was embarrassed, "I had run away, so it’s no wonder that the court officials couldn’t withstand it and left. So, you should treat the remaining court officials, especially the old ones, a little better. Haven’t you seen a few old court officials getting sick from worrying about the new regulation you passed this year allowing women to take the examination?"
"Therefore, I sent Dr. Zhang and Qin Feng one after another to treat them. You should know, these two rarely diagnose patients." Su Rong said, "Especially Qin Feng, he doesn’t have much free time due to his medical studies."
The King of Nanchu choked, "Did I talk about getting sick? You’re just too uncompromising."
Su Rong sneered, "Father, you’re the one who compromised, and what was the result? Don’t let me deal with your mess."
The King of Nanchu shut up completely, "I can’t win an argument with you."
Zhou Gu quickly served the King of Nanchu a cup of tea, "Father-in-law, don’t talk to her, it’s exhausting. Talk to me instead."
"I think you’re great in all aspects, so there’s no need for me to say anything." Nanchu King said.
Zhou Gu: "..."
That was something to say!
Su Rong curled her lips, "No matter how good you think he is, he is still my husband."
The king of Nanchu was proud, "And he is also my son-in-law."
Su Rong rolled her eyes and put down her chopsticks, "In these days, Uncle Xie lost a lot of weight from running around, while you seemed to have gained some weight."
Nanchu King twitched at the corner of his mouth, "I can eat because you are with me every day."
