Making money by mining coal

She yelled, "I'd rather get back together with Huo Nanquan than marry the old man next door!"

Upon hearing this, Wang Zhiguo slapped him across the face.

"What's so good about Huo Nanquan? Since your accident, the Huo family hasn't compensated you a single penny. And you're still thinking about getting back together with him?"

Wang Xiaofang covered her face and started crying.

Huo Nanquan hadn't actually left; he had been lingering at the door the whole time.

As a result, I overheard the conversation inside.

Upon hearing that Wang Zhiguo actually wanted to marry Wang Xiaofang off to Old Wang next door, she immediately lost her composure.

He felt he had to do something.

He immediately pushed open the door and rushed inside.

"You are not allowed to marry Xiaofang off to anyone else."

Wang Zhiguo was stunned when he saw this.

"Huo Nanquan, didn't you leave? Why are you back? You're getting a divorce anyway, why do you care who she marries?"

“Xiaofang and I haven’t gotten a divorce certificate yet, so we’re still legally husband and wife. If you marry her off to someone else, that’s bigamy.”

After saying that, Huo Nanquan stepped forward, knelt on one knee, and took her hand. "Xiaofang, promise me you won't go on blind dates with other people."

"I..." Wang Xiaofang fell silent. She looked at Huo Nanquan, feeling grateful.

Wang Yuan came over and grabbed his arm, saying, "Get out of here."

Huo Nanquan shook off his hand, "I can walk by myself."

After saying that, as he walked to the door, he glanced at Wang Xiaofang one last time. "Xiaofang, wait for me. I will win you back." Only then did he leave.

Wang Xiaofang watched his retreating figure, feeling a mix of emotions.

Wang Yuan looked at her and asked, "Sis, you're not really going to get back together with Huo Nanquan, are you?"

Wang Zhiguo suddenly rolled his eyes, as if he remembered something, and ran out.

He went out and called out to Huo Nanquan, pulling him aside to a corner and saying, "You can reconcile, but you have to propose again, and the bride price must be at least 5,000 yuan. Otherwise, I won't let Xiaofang agree to your proposal."

Huo Nanquan was somewhat taken aback upon hearing this. But it was also understandable.

After all, he hurt her so deeply back then, so this was his way of making amends.

Thinking of this, he nodded. "Okay, I agree."

Huo Nanquan's total savings amounted to only a little over 3,000 yuan. If he wanted more money, he would probably have to work to earn more.

There's a coal mine nearby, and I heard that the miners there earn a relatively high wage, around 200 a month.

So Huo Nanquan quit his job teaching at the school and went to work in a nearby coal mine.

They dig coal in the mine during the day and at night.

He works overtime every morning and evening, earning 300 yuan a month. In less than six months, he can earn 5,000 yuan.

When he came to work at the mine, the mine's leaders were somewhat puzzled.

"Isn't it a waste of your talents to come here to mine coal when you're a college student who's teaching in a rural area?"

"It's not a waste of my talents. I studied mining engineering, so it's a relevant major. Besides, I want to make money to win my wife back. We were going through a divorce because of some mistakes we made in the past."

The mine leaders were immediately moved by his kindness.

"Okay, then you do a good job."

From then on, Huo Nanquan mined coal day and night, sleeping only five hours a day.

When Wang Xiaofang went to work in the fields that morning, she heard several women at the edge of the field gossiping and chattering.

"Have you heard? Huo Nanquan, the teacher who came to teach in the rural area, has gone to work in the coal mines."

"Why go dig coal?"

"I heard it's to earn money to get married."

Hearing this, Wang Xiaofang felt very uncomfortable.

I never expected that Huo Nanquan would remarry so soon.

He even said he would wait for her to change her mind.

Men are all liars, as expected.

Early that morning, when she went out to fetch water, she saw Huo Nanquan returning, dressed in dirty, black clothes.

His face was also black.

Wang Xiaofang glanced at him, said nothing, and pretended not to see him.

Huo Nanquan called out to her, "Xiaofang."

Wang Xiaofang chuckled, "Why did you call me? Aren't you about to get married? Let's keep our distance from now on to avoid misunderstandings."

"I……"

He was about to explain something, but Wang Xiaofang quickly slipped away.

Huo Nanquan watched her retreating figure, and his eyes darkened instantly.

He knew that, based on his past actions, he truly did not deserve her forgiveness.

Only time and sincerity can earn her forgiveness.

Soon, six months passed.

That day was Huo Nanquan's last time going down into the coal mine; he had just received his wages for the past five months from the manager.

A worker came to report, "Manager, the mine is leaking water? But the engineer isn't here today, what should we do?"

"Why is it leaking?" The mine manager asked, somewhat perplexed. He remembered that Huo Nanquan had studied mining engineering in college, so he asked, "Huo Nanquan, do you understand the technology?"

"I know a little bit. I'll go take a look."

As the only college student, Huo Nanquan went down the well again to check the cause of the leak.

As it turned out, it wasn't a leak at all, but a collapse.

A section of the mine is collapsing.

He quickly notified the other workers to evacuate, "Something's wrong, the mine is going to collapse, everyone run!"

The workers rushed out, and the scene became somewhat chaotic.

There was even a stampede, but Huo Nanquan managed to evacuate everyone in an orderly manner.

He was the last to retreat.

As a result, during the retreat, he was hit on the head by a rock falling from the mine and lost consciousness.

He was unconscious when he was rescued.
