silk scarf

The next morning.

When Huo Beian went out, he saw Li Xiaoyue and casually mentioned her.

"Sister Xiaoyue, thank you for the silk scarf you gave my wife."

"What scarf? I didn't send it."

Li Xiaoyue was a little confused, and just then Song Ning came out and quickly smoothed things over, "Sister Xiaoyue, it's that pink scarf, you forgot you gave it to me yesterday?"

Seeing Song Ning wink at her, Li Xiaoyue quickly said, "Oh, right. I'm giving Song Ning a silk scarf. You're welcome."

After saying that, he quickly slipped away.

Huo Beian frowned as he watched her actions.

Something feels off.

But he didn't think much of it; after all, it was just a silk scarf. What could possibly be wrong with it?

However, as soon as he arrived at the military base, Jiang Feifei was already there waiting for him. She was on leave for a few days and planned to take a bus back to her hometown of Nancheng to ask her great-grandfather about the jade thumb ring.

Before leaving, I decided to make things even worse for Song Ning and escalate the conflict.

"Huo Beian, what, you still don't know that the scarf around Song Ning's neck was a gift from another man?"

"Other men?"

"Yes, I saw it all. A policeman gave her the ride. Didn't Song Ning tell you?"

Upon hearing this, Huo Beian was taken aback. A policeman? It was Gu Tingzhou? When did he arrive?

Could it be the silk scarf that Gu Tingzhou gave to his wife?

But why doesn't his wife tell him the truth?

There's a vague feeling of tightness in my chest...

The midday sun shone through the gauze window, casting dappled light and shadow on the ground.

When Huo Beian pushed open the door and entered, his brows were furrowed with worry, and he looked preoccupied.

Song Ning was leaning against the rattan chair picking green beans when she heard the sound. She looked up and saw that he looked unhappy, so she stood up.

"What's wrong? You seem unhappy?"

As she tilted her head back, stray hairs fell to her ears, revealing a silk scarf around her neck.

Huo Beian's gaze lingered on the silk scarf; it was the one he had given her.

"Honey, where's your pink silk scarf from before...?"

He didn't want to ask directly; he wanted to hear his wife tell him on her own initiative.

"I've put it away at the bottom of the box. With this one of yours, it's not right to always wear a gift from someone else."

Before she could finish speaking, she suddenly realized something and abruptly looked up, meeting his deep, dark eyes. She wondered, could it be that Huo Beian knew something?

Huo Beian suddenly grasped her hand, his palm warm: "From now on, only wear the things I buy, okay?"

He spoke very softly and gently: "I'll buy you many, a different one every day."

Song Ning was amused by his serious expression, her lips curving upwards before falling back down: "Why do you need so many silk scarves..."

"Promise me first."

"good."

Huo Beian stretched out his slender fingers, twirling a strand of her hair around his fingertips, and casually asked, "I heard Gu Tingzhou recently came to the military base?"

Song Ning's heart skipped a beat as she looked up and met his eyes, which were as dark as a cold pool.

She wondered why Gu Tingzhou had suddenly been brought up.

"Yes, wasn't Aunt Sun taken away by the police that day? It was Gu Tingzhou who led the team."

"So, honey, have you met him?"

Song Ning looked up and met his burning gaze, and immediately felt a little nervous.

Perhaps he knew something, so he simply confessed: "Yes, we met. He even gave me a silk scarf, the pink one. I didn't mention it before; I said it was from Sister Xiaoyue, just in case you misunderstood. You're not angry, are you?"

The cicadas chirping outside the window suddenly became clearer, sounding somewhat noisy.

Huo Beian reached out and tucked a stray hair behind her ear, his fingertips brushing against her burning earlobe: "Silly wife. Don't accept things from others anymore, especially not from Gu Tingzhou. Promise me?"

Song Ning then realized that Huo Beian was jealous, acting like a child, even though it was just a silk scarf.

She burst out laughing.

"Okay, I promise you."

...

Meanwhile, Jiang Feifei boarded the train from Gancheng to Nancheng, a journey of more than ten hours.

As it happened, Gu Tingzhou, after finishing his police duty, boarded a train for another shift, which happened to be the same train.

Back then, trains didn't have business class seats.

Even though Jiang Feifei was pampered, she still had to do the same thing as everyone else—take a hard seat.

She sat down in the three-seater with disdain. What she found most unbearable was that she was sitting in the middle, with a burly man on her left and a thug with tattoos on his body on her right.

From the moment she got into the car, these two men had ill intentions, looking at her with lecherous eyes.

Even that thug kept trying to chat her up.

"Little girl, where are you going?"

Jiang Feifei rolled her eyes at him and didn't answer.

The thug got angry instead, yelling, "I'm talking to you, don't you have ears?"

Jiang Feifei glared at him and said, "Aren't you annoying? Look at yourself in the mirror. Why should I pay attention to you?"

After saying that, she patted her clothes with disgust, as if afraid of getting them dirty.

As a result, the young man got angry and prepared to take revenge on her.

As he was getting off the train, he quietly took her bag and threw his bag into the aisle between the carriages.

It went unnoticed by anyone.

Just before getting off the bus, Jiang Feifei got up to go to the restroom, only to find that her bag was missing.

She shouted loudly, "Ahhh, where's my bag? Has anyone seen my bag?"

This sharp scream immediately startled Gu Tingzhou, who was on duty.

He walked through the crowd and approached. "What is it?"

Jiang Feifei looked up and was stunned when she saw Gu Tingzhou.
